I would be interested in a FFitp (I've played all but the newest games and original FF3) and also the 40Kitp, but would like to iron out details first.
allowable character types, plots, etc

I think there would be one major problem with a Final Fantasy in the Playground though.
Final Fantasy is about a group of misfits who group together and save the world. Now how can we accommodate everyone in FFitp to be a hero that saves the world? A world like that would have chosen ones that are cheaper than a dozen eggs.
Now don't get me wrong, I love final fantasy. I love the original final fantasy where you completly on your own and create the only personalities your characters have are the ones you decide they have.
But how can we make a world based on a game where you are THE herp, not A hero?
At least Bleach and Naruto have a wide world of supporting characters.
Why not instead create a world with Final Fantasy mechanics but have multiple kingdoms facing off against each other? Allow the players to choose a side or be a mercenary and create some shades of gray. This would create a more developed world and creates more plot options than the one evil kingdom or the one abomination that destroys the world every X years.
Just thinking.

Plenty of factions, Martians, Gundam, giant-cyborg ninjas, King Kongs, Godzillas, Ctulu, robot versions of all of the above and more.
Can I gather anyone else's interest in this?

Hmm sounds a lot like the general premise of the Final Fantasy MMOs (XI and XIV I believe). The general populace of the world called to arms by their kingdom to face a common treat, save the world, and turn a profit for said kingdom.
We could make a ffRP world like that. Use the classical jobs/classes for characters. Allow races from any other FF universe (within reason), etc etc.

Hi, I'm Lateral, and... I'm just looking for something where I can let out my pyromaniacal tendencies safely. I wanna creatively blow up a city or two, basically.
Spoiler
@V: Which one?
Edit: I'll go with Nexus as long as I get to be a saboteur and use magitek flamethrowers.
Hi. TLM here, just posting for posterity. Interested in any games.

Well I've been toying with the idea of joining the Nexus for a while and I would like to know is there waas a good or "safe" location or thread for my character(s) to start.

Trog's. Always Trog's when both the player and the character are new. That's not a rule or anything, but it tends to work the best for getting new people assimilatedindoctrinated introduced to the madness that is the Nexus.

HALO's good to join as well. AMEN is also an option. LANTERN is pretty friendly to new users as well.

Yes, pretty much. It's better to play your character for a while before joining an organization. Not to mention that your character can be unaffiliated.

One other thing, read a little about the Nexus and stuff about it before you join. I didn't, and didn't even know it was the hub of the multiverse and other stuff until a month ago.

Don't worry, I'm not completely unaware of what I'm getting myself (or at least my characters) into.
But I'll start at the tavern, seems to fit the character anyway.
Thanks for all the suggestions and help.

I'm in the process of making a universe thing involving elements (Air/Earth/Fire/Water/Aether/Vacuum) and races (six, but it's not quite "one race per element") and stuff. I'm in very early stages, but a world where life on the ground is hell and the world is on stilts; if anyone has suggestions or comments or anything, I'm listening.
Er.
Reading.
When it comes to things like NEXUS, does one simply describe a character and dive in to any tagged thread, or is there a place to post character profiles, and maybe an "Accepted Starting Area" for new characters?

You can put a character in the Nexus Character Registry if you like, but it's not a requirement. In fact, a lot of people find it's better to actually play their characters a bit before making an entry for them, as they might decide to change the concept / powers / backstory a bit after having them in use.
Of course there's nothing to stop you going back and editing your character entry later, either.
As for where to start, Trog's Tavern is the traditional introduction place, though it's not a requirement. You can start your character in any public thread, but you'll have the best chance of getting interaction if you start at Trog's.
Be sure and read the guides in post 3 of this thread and if you have any questions, pop into the Nexus OOC thread to ask. Actually popping into the Nexus OOC thread to say 'Hi, I'm new' is a good idea anyway.
The third annual Thanksmasnewyearskwanzakkah thread is up, and as tradition, is open to any character from any ffrp universe. Or heck, drag in characters from your pbp or tabletop games! Come as yourself! Even if you don't normally rp in ffrp, you're welcome to play in this thread. Tis the season for fun and silliness.
Firefox kindly gave me permission to reprint his essay "On Overpoweredness in the Town" that he wrote in 2008. It is now included with the guidelines to ffrp play in post 3.
Don't worry. I'll make sure you don't quadruple post.
...
It's good stuff. Found myself agreeing with all of it.
