I first saw this game on the MafiaScum.net forums, unfortunately it had already ended when I found it so I couldn't participate myself. edit: I found the original game: it's here, I have changed some of the rules for balancing and stuff, I've also send out PMs regarding the changes
I've been looking but couldn't find something like this (or maybe I've just missed it) so I've decided to launch this myself.
The general aim of the game is for the players to take control over 3 (out of 5) enemy bases. 3 players are actually enemies in disguise and will do their best to sabotage your attempts.
The rules and flavor are detailed below.
The Rules:
Please keep in mind that the GM (a.k.a: The Moderator, the Game Moderator, the Game Master, the Grumpy Man or the Mod) may change some of these rules (more specifically: those dealing with time and/or penalties for lurking)
The Basics
Spoiler
One (1) round consists of three (3) simultaneous games. Each of these games will have it's own dedicated forum thread.
Each game will also (likely) have it's own Moderator who will specify a certain color in the OP, this is his color and other people are not allowed to use it.
As a player, you listen to the moderator. He will also be responsible for counting votes etc.
To join a game, players have to confirm in the Recruitment Thread. A list of players who have joined will be kept in the OP.
Players are only allowed to participate in one (1) game at any time.
A single game will consist of maximum 10 players
Once a game is full, all submissions for the Game will be classified as "Replacement".
Once a game has started, no new submissions will be taken. Except for extreme circumstances if a Game is out of replacements and players are still leaving.
Replacements
Spoiler
If a player is unable to continue active participation they can ask to be Replaced. (eg.: if Real Life events prevent a person from posting)
A player can also be Replaced by the Game Moderator if they have failed to be active for a given period of time.
This period of time can (and probably will) vary from game to game. But as a general rule of thumb: not posting/voting during a full Turn will result in being Replaced (unless otherwise agreed with the GM)
If a player is Replaced a replacement will take their place. This replacement will be given acces to all abilities/QuickTopic threads the Replaced player had access to.
If you sign up for a game, think before you join: if you know you'll have to leave halfway, try joining as replacement or maybe joining another Round. This will help everyone enjoy a smoother game.
Gameplay
Spoiler
In each game there are ten or nine players, the goal of these players is to wrestle three out of five bases from Empire control.
But within their ranks are three infiltrators, their goal is to make sure the Empire holds at least 3 out of 5 bases.
The players can only post in the official Game thread.
At the beginning of each turn, a Leader is selected amongst the players. This will always be the next player on the list (sorted chronologically: "first to join, first to play")
Then begins the Selection Phase:
Selection Phase
Spoiler
During this Phase: All players are allowed to post in-thread
The leader has to select players to form a team. This leader may be part of this team, but this isn't mandatory. The first team will consist of three members, the second, third and fourth team have 4 members and the last team will have 5. This makes it progressively more difficult for the rebels to decide who to take on the team.
When the team has been selected Voting Phase will begin. (If the leader has not made a selection for X amount of time, a new Turn will begin and the next person in line will become leader)
Voting Phase
Spoiler
During this Phase: All players are allowed to post in-thread
All Players will vote Yes or No(votes have to be bolded to count)
Players can only vote once, so make sure you think before voting.
The winning vote is decided through majority: the winning option is the one that received at least half of the votes+1.
If no decision has been reached (tie) it will be counted as No and a new Turn will begin (and the next person in line will become leader) .
If atleast half of the players voted Yes the game will move to Mission Phase
Remember, there is no limit to the amount of attempts at forming a Team. If you're not pleased with the chosen team there is nothing to prevent you from voting No
Also, if the vote fails 5 times, the empire will win the base automatically.
Night Phase
Spoiler
During this Phase: The players are allowed to post in-thread
The players who are part of the Team will PM the GM and cast their vote to either:
a)Support the mission or
b)Sabotage the mission
If at least one sabotage vote has been cast, the mission will fail and the Empire will gain permanent control over the Base
Otherwise the rebels will succeed in capturing the base. (Rebels MUST vote Support)
The fourth base however requires 2 Sabotage vote in order for the mission to fail.
Once all five votes are cast, the GM will count all of the votes and decide which team won.
He will then proceed to make a post with the details of the mission (failure or succes)
He will not say who voted for what (duh) or how many votes were cast for either option.
The GM will then update the OP (leaderlist, base status, bases remaining etc.)
Finally, he will unlock the thread and a new Turn is initiated.
Spoiler
Moderators can always change the deadline.
As a player, you won't be able to lynch anybody. You'll have to use your wits to find out who the infiltrators are, but you won't be able to get rid of their influence indefinitely.
There are Rebels
Quote:
You are a Rebel, you are fighting against the evil Empire of X, blablabla, freedom blablabla, fight oppresors blablabla, etc.
You are a part of the uninformed majority, you can post in-thread during day and vote on the team propositions. If you are on a mission you'll have to vote "support", you're no filthy backstabber (not this time at least).
and Infiltrators
Quote:
You are an Infiltrator, you are pretending to fight against the Empire of X, but you actually want the empire to succeed.
You are a part of the informed minority, you can post in-thread during day and vote on the team propositions. If you are on a mission you' can choose whether to vote "Support" or "sabotage", you partner is "NAME". You can post here during the Night Phase to discuss with your partner.
Victory conditions
Spoiler
The winner of a Game is the first team to conquer three out of five bases, but it's not enough to just win one Game.
The winner of a Round is the first team to win two out of three Games.
When a Game has been won, this will be announced in the threads of all other Games.
Moderators (if you want to be a moderator, read this!)
Spoiler
As a Moderator it is your responsibility to make sure your game runs smooth.
You may choose to have co-mods, if you do so, make sure they understand the rules thoroughly.
addendum to the above: co-mods can perform assisting roles, but they can't edit your OP (I think, if I'm wrong lemme know and I'll scratch this rule), if you want a co-mod to do all the work then maybe you should switch places?
As a moderator, your are free to ask me or one of the other moderators for help/advice if you're not sure what to do.
There is no problem with using flavor (in fact, it is strongly encouraged) but for the love of [insert deity here] keep things clear: make sure the players are always aware of what happened after the voting etc.
addendum to the above: Do not give away too much information (never say: the mission was a succes even though one of you voted sabotage)
Also, keep the OP up to date (with vote tallies, player lists etc.)
Name your threads according to the thread names specified in this post (see bottom of post).
Be nice to the players: you're their guide, not their boss!
Flavor time:
Quote:
For many years you have been subject to many brutal oppresive regimes here on the Western continent, you have decided it's time to rise up against the tyrants!
You have gathered with some like-minded fellows, all of you escaped slaves or gladiators on the run. If the guards find you, you won't simply be recaptured, you'll be executed on the spot (or set on fire to form like, 200-foot-tall flaming letters or something)
Now you want to start a kingdom of your own, one which will be provide a safe haven for escaped slaves. But to do so you must first get rid of the most powerful kingdoms on the continent: The Empires of Blood, Sweat and Tears!
You have split up and infiltrated the different empires, but now it is time to strike. All of you are now gathering at secret locations, plotting against the oppressors!
After a long time of preparation though, you have finally managed to identify the Empire's weak spots and you're preparing to launch a series of surprise assaults on specific locations.
If you manage to wrestle at least three of the designated military forts from the Empire's control you could win this rebellion. However, if your friends in the other Empires fail, the Empires will just send reinforcements to smack down your rebellion.
If any of these rules are unclear or you have a better idea, say so in this thread. So everyone can see what's being called into question (and so the same question won't be asked twice, or thrice and flood my inbox crippling my ability to respond to other questions!)
Current player lists: Please specify which game you want to join, if you don't specify I'll just put you in a random one.
(Once a game has filled, the GM assigned to it will start a thread for that game. The players will then have to confirm they're ready either in-thread or by PM, whichever the GM prefers)

Hey, where'd my post go?
As I tried to say, I suggested something like this a while ago. Though where does having 3 games come into play?
Also, you're supposed to schedule stuff in the WW Central thread. Most people don't see games if it's not there.
As I tried to say, I suggested something like this a while ago.
Oh, I looked when I started this but couldn't find it though, otherwise I'd have joined yours .
Would you like to join as a mod?

That's the "grand scale"-stuff, there's 3 games (each with a different thread), each game is won by either the Rebels or the Empire. But the "war" (or Round) can only be won if one faction wins 2 out of 3 "battles" (Games).
Maybe I should clarify this in the OP?
EDIT: Since you didn't specify a game to join, I've done the random rolling (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showt...3#post10921549)
Istari will join the blue Game
Lemonus will join the orange Game
PS: Lemonus, I'm really sorry for screwing up your dice roll, can you forgive me?
I think not. Not in English anyway, in other languages it's very likely to be pronounced different (It's different in Dutch!) but since the joke here was about the phonetic similarity* of 'Pie' and 'Pi'.
You can hear for yourself here, here and here**, also here
Also I'm obliged to refer you to this site we all know and this other page on the same site
Of course, I might be wrong, in which case you may feel free to present me a source to prove your point.
On a related but completely different matter, would you perhaps like to join the game? (trying not to derail too much)
*If that term actually exists. If it doesn't, it does now. I think it sounds nice.
**If this one doesn't work, try refreshing the page. It sometimes refuses to play the sound when I try it.
Small announcement, I'm going to double post because I want to keep certain things separate.
Because of the apparent lack of interest, I don't think it will be possible to get the game going before my exams start. Therefore, the games moderated by me will not start until after exams. Unless they get filled before the end of next week, in which case I can schedule to check in every two or three days during exams to make vote counts etc.
Also, if it seems like not enough players will join to fill the games in time, I'll just cramp everyone into one Game and hope the others will fill as we go.
I'd be happy to act as a GM, or co-GM if crampage occurs. I'm pretty good with flavor text, and DM RPG sessions regularly.
If so, my color will be Purple
My exams will be over in a couple of weeks, then I'll do the crampage, if there are enough people (it's no fun playing with 3, it'd be too easy to deduce who the traitors are). Though with one or two people less it should still be possible, I might have to change some of the numbers though, but I'll worry about that if/when it comes to that.
Um, I guess I'll join the Empire of Tears game, myself.

When I first came across it it was indeed starwars themed, though the rebels vs empire thing fits suspiciously well to the current OotS story arc.
Also, it's not really a WW-game per se, as you can't lynch anybody. The goal is to figure out who the traitors are and to prevent them from sabotaging the mission. Everyone has a vote, and everyone stays alive during the whole game. The players have to determine who the traitors are by various means such as: conversation, studying voting habits, conversation, making links between "Players on mission" and "Mission Success/Fail", and last but not least, conversation.
I think we might have enough players to start, if the first ones are still willing to participate. I'll send out role PM's next week.
Hey look guys, I managed to find the thread where I found the original idea. It's right here (I suggest you read it, it will make this easier to understand). I also see I got some of the rules a bit different, I'll see whether I'll update or keep this variation.
Okay, I've sent the PM's (a few hours ago) asking everyone to confirm. You might have already confirmed in thread, which is okay, but just to be sure I sent the PM to everyone. There's also a mention of the night-talk, everyone is entitled one vote on that. Details etc. are in the PM, check your inbox.
Consider this a confirmation, boss. Sorry I'm so late on reply. Procrastination is a horrible habit I'll get to fixing later.
