Holy *bleep* on a *bleep* sandwich! A reply! I was so bummed that I put all this work into this game and no one apparently wanted to play. But yeah, consistent participation would be essential if you're one of the infected, but otherwise, you can abstain from voting if you choose and, of course if you get killed you'll be informed of it. If we can't get at least ten people though, we can't play. Tell your friends!
Troll Patrol: I've gone ahead and moved your thread over to the Structured Games subforum. In the future, though you are certainly welcome to run these types of games, be advised that many other people do as well and so we've set up a bit of a schedule in the WW Central thread to help make sure people get enough participation for their games and we would all appreciate it if you took advantage of this process as well. Welcome to the Playground and Silly Message Board Games!
I'll join, but also point out that Devil usually refers to the wolf scrier; a different name might be less likely to create confusion.
Also, holy ****** the Dark Angel is dangerous! I think you'd need more wolves, or something else to balance that out.
I'll play even though I'm a terrible role player. But, wow, the dark angel is insanely powerful. The town seems pretty overpowered.
EDIT: Wait, does each devil get their own kill or do they get one group kill per night? If it's the first that might be more fair.

Hey guys. Ok, good to finally see some interest. This is my first time running a game of this sort, so bear with me.

I saw that. It was... rather daunting. Wasn't sure what to do. Any pointers from any veteran WW narrators (apparently thats what I'm supposed to be calling myself, rather than GM) regarding how to proceed?

Each devil gets one kill unless of course the angel stops them. Also it should be noted that the order of operations is Angel-->Devil-->Dark Angel. Even if a devil is successfully targeted by a DA, he still gets his kill for that Blackout. [Edit: Oh, it wasn't originally that. My bad. Fixed on the initial post.]

A lot of people seem to be pointing out balance issues, and a lot of the comments seem to center around not enough Devils (Wolves) or the Dark Angel being overpowered. Again, I'm new at this, so I'm open to suggestions.

What I'd suggest is make the DA a vanilla seer, so he won't kill the Devil and will have to convince the others that he's the DA and not the Devil. You could also put a "fool", which is a seer that get a random role instead of the real one. Maybe increase the Devil/Town ratio to 1 for each 5 players, in this case there wouln't be extra kills, or give other Devils different powers, there is a list in the WW central. Still, 1 wolf for 10 players is too little, IMO.

Wasn't there already 2 wolves for 10 players, which translates to 20%, which is the threshold for vanilla average numbers?
I imagine there'll be a lot of deaths with a killing seer and wolves with one kill each. Let's see...
20 players. 4 wolves, 2 seer-killers, 2 baners. It looks like a really fast-paced but not necessarily that unbalanced(in the beginning) game. With a lucky night one, either one of the teams can utterly devastate the other, though.

It was 1 Devil for each 10 before, and the seers only kill the Devil, not ordinary villagers.

No, I'm pretty sure it was 2 Devils for every 10 players when I first looked, the instant the thread popped up.
Anyway, I propose the following change:
The Dark Angels can either kill someone during the night or find out someone's role, not both at once targeting only Devils. This way they could even take out good guys if they took risks, but they still retain the ability to kill Devils they scry, just with a delay.

I think I will join, I have played it as mafia. Pretty much, for those that are confused, if any, devil=mafia, DA=cop, angel=doctor. Also, DON'T REVEAL YOUR IDs, many ppl playing Mafia first time have made this mistake.
EDIT: I think it would also be a good idea once all rule changes have been made to make one post listing all rules, with changes.

It was 2 devils for every 10 players from the beginning, you are correct. As for Gray Mage, easy mistake, considering how convoluted the descriptions were.
In regards to your suggestion, that's not a bad idea, I'll certainly take it into consideration. Could be good for balance, which is something I'm very concerned about. Thanks for the help

I'm sorry guys, my Internet has been down. So we have enough then. Just to confirm, everybody PM me, and I'll reply with you position I'll PM you, and you reply confirming that you're playing. I'll reply back with your position.; we'll get this show on the road. Sorry for sucking, I've just been having a hell of couple of weeks
Attention, nihilism: For some reason, it's not letting me PM you. I don't know why that is, but since that's not working, be sure to post something on this thread indicating you're playing, if indeed you are.
Oh, nvm. He got banned... carry on...

Hello, and welcome to The Infected. You may have played similar games online on in real life. You may have called it "Mafia" "The Werewolf Game" or perhaps others. This game is very much like those games, but with a rather different flavor, and structured so as to encourage a bit of light RP on the part of those playing.
THE STORY:
You, the player are one of a group of employees at the Chamberlain Institute for Biochemical Research. One day you awake to find that the facility has been locked down. The President of Company, Hezekiah P. Chamberlain, appears on your TV Screen from his safehouse in an undisclosed location. He informs you that a highly unpredictable and dangerous virus has broken out in the facility, and the it will remain locked down until the virus has been eliminated. This includes terminating the infected. With the facility locked down, the power's on the fritz. When the lights go out, and the Blackout begins, the infected assume their mutant forms and go on the prowl.
There are many variations on the rules of these sorts of games. These are mine.
THE RULES:
In The Infected you play as one of four character types: normal, uninfected humans or one of four types of infected, to be assigned by the Game Master (me):
The Devil:
The most unfortunate of the infected, your mind is not what it used to be. The little bit of humanity you have left is concerned with nothing but survival. Either Chamberlain and the uninfected die, or you do. There will be 2 Devils for every 10 players. Devils will know one another's identities, and cannot attack one another. During the Blackout, the Devils will Private Message the Game Master and tell me which player they would like to kill. That player will be killed unless they are saved by...
The Angel:
Despite being by far the luckiest of the infected, your mind is not left unaltered. You no longer have any regard for your own well being; your only concern is for the safety of others. There will be 1 Angel for every 10 players. Angels know one another's identities, but their protective abilities do not affect one another. During the Blackout, the Angels will Private Message the Game Master and tell me who they think the Devils will attack. If they guess correctly, the player will be saved. As Angels protect other players, the task of destroying the Devils is left to...
The Dark Angel:
Most of your personality is gone. You have no motivation beyond the destruction of the Devils, and you have gained a clairvoyant ability to discern whether or not another person is a Devil. There will be 1 Dark Angel for every 10 players. Dark Angels know one another's identities and as such will not target one another. During the Blackout, the Dark Angels will Private Message the Game Master and tell me who they believe the Devils to be. If they guess correctly, the will tear the Devil limb from limb, utterly destroying them. If the target is a Half-Devil it is at the Dark Angel's discretion whether or not they will kill them. If they guess incorrectly, they will leave their target alone, and nothing will happen. Despite his protection, the good guys must still look out for the wild-card...
The Half-Devil:
You are a strange case. You have not changed physically at all, but have been overtaken by a psychosis that makes you believe yourself to be one of the Devils. Unlike them, you are too physically weak to kill the humans, but have been given another "gift:" you can discern, once per Blackout the identity of any other player. During the Blackout, the Half-Devils will Private-Message the Game Master, and tell me who you want to identify. I will PM you back with an accurate response. Now comes the really tricky part: you can choose what message to pass along to the Devils; that is, you can aid them with accurate information, or you can intentionally mislead them, aiding the humans and Angels. The Game Master passes along the message to the Devils, not you. You don't know the Devils' identities, nor that of other Half-Devils you haven't yet identified. Basically, you can play either (or both!) sides of the field.
How the Game Works:
Anyone interested in playing should post on the thread. I'm fine with any number of players, but something close to a multiple of 10 would be preferable. Your role, as stated above will be randomly assigned by me, the Game Master. The Blackout I mentioned above, is when the infected go on the prowl. After I post the word BLACKOUT all posting on the thread is to cease, and all infected are to PM me with their target. If you are not assigned an infected role, never fear, you have a role to play as well. While the lights are on, you may (and are encouraged to) discuss what's happened so far, and try to stay in character as much as you can. After the Blackout is when your role really begins. You, as well as the infected (who are in their human forms when the lights are on) will hold a Vigilante Council and hold a vote to decide who you think is the Devil. The player that receives the most votes, regardless of what they actually are will be put to death by the other players.
The basic process is:
Blackout-->Infected PM Game Master (First Angels, then Half-Devils, then Devils, then Dark Angels)-->Lights On-->Game Master Announces what transpired during the Blackout-->Vigilante Council-->Repeat
The game ends either when all the Devils (the Half-Devil may survive) have been destroyed, or all non-Devils are dead.
Players will see one of several different endings, based on the outcome of the game (i.e. who won, and of those who won, who survived), and which ending you get will influence the sequel.
Once the game begins I would kindly ask anyone who's not playing not to post here.
Have fun, and remember, all conversations are encouraged to be in character and MUST take place on the thread; no PM cheating; that is, asking another player their status via PM. I cannot of course stop you from doing this, but doing so will break the game, and if someone messages you and attempts to cheat, please report them to me and they will be ejected from the game.
So yeah, these are the revised rules. I hope it addressed the balance issues, and I thought the Half-Devil was a neat idea, so I stuck him in there. At 11 PM EST tonight, the game will begin. In the meantime, I will be determining your roles, and PMing you with them. Everyone has received their role PMs. If you have any other questions/comments in the meantime, PM me or ask on the thread.

You awake, your head throbbing. All you remember is the explosion, and the agonized screams of your co-workers. You look around. Including yourself, there are nine others in the immediate area.
*krrrrzzzk* *pop* *hisssssss*
The snowy image on the TV set gradually becomes clearer, and the stress-worn face of your middle-aged employer, Alfred P. Chamberlain appears on-screen.
"Hello valued employees. It seems there's been a slight mishap in R&D, but please stay calm. Everything is fine. A harmless, experimental substance has been release into the workers' quarters, and for business reasons we've locked down the facility. The power is on the fritz, so you will likely experience periodic blackouts. Do not, I repeat DO NOT PANIC. Panic leads to aggressive behavior, aggressive behavior leads to violence on company property, violence on company property leads to employee deaths, and employee deaths lead to class action lawsuits... damn unions... and that's bad for everyone wouldn't you agree? Now then the next thing you need to know--"
In an instant, the lights go off, leaving you in total darkness.
BLACKOUT
[All infected, please PM me with your votes before 11 AM EST tomorrow]
