Arts and CraftsThe place to talk about stick figure avatars, graphic design, fan art, or any application of the visual arts and creative writing--or just to show off your latest masterwork!
This puts me at a total 1119 words, meaning I only need 381 to pass this week, which is much more doable in a day or two than 730. So hopefully I'll be able to celebrate my first week of having risen to the challenge!

Reltzik: You're out, due to disappearance. Feel free to drop by again, and I still owe you a prize, so... let me know.
@C'nor: Tsk, tsk, tsk...
Ice Walker: Haha, you're back alright. Good to see you again!
Lil Shiro and ShadowySilence, it's good to see sporadic works here and there, but if you don't pass this week, I'm gonna take you off the list. Having two participants who can be relied on to fail is bad PR.
Edit: Oy oy, I managed to miss your update, C'nor! (well, technically, it's past deadline, anyway, but... ). It's corrected now.
And the deadline is Sunday. Hope you'll make it next week!
Whoops! I'd gotten confused about when you posted the last one and thought I had another day... Oh well.
Also, I seem to have ninja'd you - I made an 861 word potion, too.
Edit: Thanks!

Haha, and you ninja'ed my edit. We're good at this XD
I post status at 11 am GMT+1, which is when Sunday is over everywhere. That's probably why it may seem like a strange time.
Just have everything up by Sunday, and there'll be no problem
In this case, what threw me was that I only remember that you'd posted on the 26th, and forgot, when the month changed, that the 26th for March was now up at the top; since the two have different numbers of days, it looked like it wasn't due until the third. But yes, your strategy should work to prevent any more confusion over when I need to get things up by.

Yeah, sorry, this next term's going to be extremely busy for me. I might be back in two or three months.

Ah, I see. It needs to be a rule about simplicity, really - "everything, no matter how simple, will at some point be thought to be extremely complex."
Holds true as far as I know

Sounds great! Not the "busy" part, but the "be back" part, I mean. Anyway, good luck until you get back
Ooh, that's a theme my drawing practice represents well whether I want it to or not!
But that's why I'm here, right?

Uh oh. Busy weekend coming up. We'll see if I get my work done. (Note: if I do, it may be a bit late, I'll probably be out after midnight on Sunday)

Well, it turns out Carcinoma Beetles didn't work, so have Comprehengeon instead. It ended up being 1,018 words long, bringing my total to 1,295 words. And it (if unintentionally) fits the theme, too, so that's nice.
Hopefully I'll have at least 205 words on something starting with D up by the deadline.
And The Dreamer is 400 words, putting me at 1,695 words in total.

Glass Mouse passes with 18 pencil drawings, including two failure-themed ones.
Lil Shiro uploaded four poems of various themes, three done for contests.
Shadowy Silence uploaded a poem about happiness masks.
Ice Walker didn't send me anything.
Kyouhen passes with 18 drawings, including a sad pony, a painting-fail pony, a cupcake-fail pony, a triforce-fail pony, and a meta-fail drawing contest. Also, a small horror comic.
C'nor passes with 1,695 words of writings, including the short story of [spoiler] a not-very-succesful assassin.
Thus, Lil Shiro, ShadowySilence and Ice Walker FAIL this round!
@C'nor: First week done, good job Reading your stories really makes me want to get back into supershort stories myself. It's a great genre to practice brevity and subtlety. Gotta do something about that.
@ShadowySilence and @Lil Shiro: while it's great that you uploaded something, I'm still gonna remove you from the list. When you pass a week, let me know, and I'll put you right back on it!
@Ice Walker: Sorry you didn't make it. Better luck next week.
And, such thoughts in mind, this week's theme is hope.

Hope, huh? Well, that could be a challenge in and of itself, considering my plans for posts...

I just had this thing linked to me. It was described by the sender as: "A thing that one of the goons made that I've been sending to everyone who likes writing. FuegoFish made it, and it's really fun. The idea is that you're supposed to challenge yourself to invent a setting based on the elements it generates, but I think it's also a good source of inspiration."
I think it looks neat! And since we're a bunch of writers here, I thought I'd share.
Personally, I'm gonna do at least one writing piece (250 words) inspired by this, before Sunday. We'll see if it spirals into more
Interesting. Though for some reason, it seems to be averse to giving me anything but modern fantasy suggestions... Is it stuck in a loop that it'll eventually get out of, or is that a feature?
Also, I've found my plans for the week have gotten a bit sidetracked, so I'm not entirely sure if I'll get enough stuff up in time. Especially since I've found myself wanting to write poetry, and it takes rather a lot of that to get up to 1500 words.

I only know what I wrote above, unfortunately. I hadn't even noticed the bias - I guess I'm too much in love with modern fantasy
As for poems, there are different rules. One poem = one piece. They take much longer to write, and they're self-contained, so for simplicity's sake, it's left as that.
So go nuts with your poems!

Modern fantasy is nice. I just happened to notice because the first two things it spit out at me, I'd done in some form (one was serious, the other... Less so, as could be expected from a combination of Red Dwarf and Shadowrun), so I went through three of them in a very short space of time.
And in that case, hurray! Though they don't seem to take longer to write for me. But I suspect that's more because it often takes me an inordinately long time to actually figure out how to say stuff, even if I have ideas, than because I'm actually fast about poetry...

Haha, that looks like an awesome generator, but I'm afraid I have way too many ideas already! I need to finish something of what I have, first!
Also, the moral of this week is, drawing books teach you to draw. Or, in other words, hurr durr I finally looked at the drawing books I have and will be easily finishing six pages of proportions and pose practice, which is going FANTASTICALLY. I can actually draw things shaped and positioned like framework people!
Edit: Uploading!

Drawing books are very useful! Very useful! I dabbled a little with Anatomy and Drawing by Victor Perard, which was cool and interesting and taught me proper body proportions (the whole seven and a half heads thing), which I was utterly lacking in knowledge of. But, most of that book is really detailed anatomical considerations, which I think is too advanced to be helpful to me. So I moved on to Andrew Loomis' book Fun With a Pencil which is his starting drawing book, and took on faces again, with enormous success:
Spoiler
Hopefully I'll be able to keep up for a while this time!

I really doubt I'll be getting anything at all up this week. My brain decided to spit out a song adaptation, two poems, and the ideas for a death goddess and a sci-fi story involving said deity, then not let me actually finish any of it.
Sorry!

@Kyouhen: What... what happened? You're our mascot! You can't fail!
@Ice Walker: Whoa, progress! Those faces actually look... constructed! It's great to see you getting a feel for the shapes that faces are made of. Also, yay, stick figures and dynamic poses
My boyfriend (who's trying to become a CG artist) is a huge fan of Lumis as well. Seems like you're in good company.
I didn't do that writing exercise because time (and a secret project) ran away from me. Crud. I'll do it this week, promise.
Yeah, sorry, life's been extremely busy and I seem to keep falling asleep when I try to get my pictures online. >_<
I've uploaded everything I did last week now, though I'm still pretty sure I failed the challenge unless the last painting I did is somehow worth 4 points. I couldn't seem to come up with any ideas that matched the theme. o_O
Is it again? Well then, this week's theme is Batman.

Aw, that sucks. I feel for you.
I have a few weeks every semester where I only get by challenge-wise because I write and draw on lunch breaks and in the mornings. Crunch weeks are fuuuuun

Oops, I actually forgot to change it. But let's roll with it - it'll be a good excuse to actually draw the bat! :D
Also, that video is the silliest thing I've seen in a long time. Strangely catchy, though.
That's just Act 1, Part 1. It's an entire musical.
(The villains get the best song, of course. Villains always do.)
