Gobwin Knob remained a capital complete with portal despite being nearly completely demolished, to the point of pretty much being a portal plus a pile of rocks. Spacerock isn't going to stop being capital until it's no longer owned by Jetstone or Jetstone relocates its capital. Killing Slately, with his current lack of heirs, would accomplish that, as would finishing the entire city's capture. I don't think anything else will.

King Slately, minus zappy sceptre.

I wonder if he'll hit anyone with it and turn them into a colored skeleton.

There's only so much scorn and disdain an Ossomer can take from his adored goddess before the mental conditioning wears off. Good for him! It shows that the Decrypted are not complete puppets. Or at least, no more so than normal living units.

Since Ossomer was the heir before, and (as demonstrated by mentions of wars of succession in Transylvito, heirs who change sides remain heirs) most likely still holds that position, Slately might get his heroic sacrifice after all. Ossomer probably has a somewhat conflicted loyalty still, but most probably, even if Wanda moved back to Spacerock, he would remain on Jetstone side unless something unexpected happens.

I don't quite understand why Jack needed to pull that trickery to come through the portal...also, are we going to have another ending to a book where Parson appears to be on the verge of winning every other page only to have something happen that kicks him in the nethers?

There was a wall of Thinkamancers blocking his way, but they all jumped out of the way of the 'severed head'.

btw for those of you who don't have Erfworld on facebook or keep up with the whining on the forums (which I don't blame you if you don't. I don't know why I bother), Rob is apparently looking for an inker and a colorer for the comic, so if that happens we may see update speed pick up.

But was it due to Ossomer choosing to/being Turned, or was it due to a limit to the Arkenpliers? The Magic Kingdom's a completely different place from the rest of Erfworld, after all. If Wanda was exerting control over the Decrypted through the Arkenpliers, it's possible that when contact with her broke the control lapsed...

Well, we don't know yet whether he's still zero upkeep or not. Certainly their loyalty isn't absolute.

I don't think thats what happened, if so that would be really misleading. If ALL of the units turned back right now jetstone would probably mop the floor with gobwin knob (If charlie steps in and helps.)

I think it's a combination. The decrypted get spawned with a really high loyalty stat to Wanda. And spending time with Wanda and doing things may even raise loyalty like normal. So a well treated Decrypted probably won't turn regardless. But as a just in case type deal, the Pliers give an extra bonus on loyalty checks when they're in the hex (just another application of the general artifact bonus).

Well, here we have Ossomer, who was decrypted, then immediately sent to fight against his family, left as one of the few who couldn't get to the ground and the real fighting, so gets to basically sit there and wait to die, while looking on and seeing his home, his family, and his people destroyed by his side. This is wearing down his new-spawned loyalty exceedingly quickly, but still when his Father comes to him at the last moment and asks him to turn, he still says he can't... up until the instant that Wanda crosses into MK, at which point he no longer has that plier bonus and is able to turn.

Everyone else however, they stay pretty much as is. Most of them have been with Wanda for a while now, and are pretty happy with their situation. They're firmly loyal to Wanda/GK, unlike Ossomer who has been displaying apathy almost from the beginning. So they don't need Wanda's immediate presence to keep them from turning, they have no reason or incentive to turn. There may be a few newly turned Jetstone units who may turn back, but I doubt it. I think what we've seen is that it is possible, but it takes a pretty severe dissatisfaction/emotional response to make it happen.

The real question is if we'll see Ansom turn to Queen Jillian. He was with Wanda longer, and seemed more set in his beliefs than Ossomer had been. We'll have to wait and see.

Oss is a VERY special case; let's run down the factors that lead to him eventually turning: 1) he is killed by a dishonorable act before being raised.(this one is the most debatable but he is killed during a duel with Decrypted Ansom that is going his way before both Wanda and Lady Sylvia interfere, since he remembers his pre-decryption life this has to sit somewhere in his mind)
2) He is the highest level warlord on his side when Decrypted Ansom gets captured by Queen Jillian the Obsessive and does not receive the CWL promotion, like is generally the rule of thumb on Erf and lacking the reference points to it due to not having served during the Gobwin Knob fiasco.
3) the tactics GK employs when he's talking to his brother are both perceptively dishonorable and makes him dishonest as well.
4) Both his brother and father have been working him over fairly hard throughout this particular conflict.
All of these have contributed to his being a major morale case and I doubt there is a single other decrypted in a similar boat...

The real interesting thing about Ossomer turning back, from my point of view, is that he knows how Decrypted think. Is he smart enough to use that knowledge to help fight them? Or can he even use psychology to get other Decrypted units to turn?

I was being a bit unfair earlier, thinking about it. As things stood, Gobwin Knob had all the advantages--the more enemies they kill, the stronger their army becomes, with no realistic upper limit until Erfworld runs out of people. The fact Ossomer has turned shows that there is a flaw in Decryption which means there is a way the other sides can fight back!

Yeah, now that Ossomer has turned back to Jetstone (thus proving it's possible), I think he's served his purpose in the story, much like Webinar and Dora from Book 1, and thus needs to follow Redemption Equals Death.

Umm, technically he's defecting to the unholy side according to Stanley at this point. He implies that there is some sort of divine mandate there as well (though he later admits that Wanda's devotion to the concept freaks him out)
