Default Aurora 4x succession game

So I learned about this crazy detailed space empire game named Aurora 4x from a forum Lets-Play.

For those of you not familiar with the game think Dwarf Fortress. In space. Played on the world galactic map. Managing multiple trade caravans fully customizable ship fleets and multiple fortresses planetary colonies rather than individuals. All in lots of detail. From what I've seen so far the learning curve is taller than Dwarf fortress's, but less steep.

After playing it for a week my #1 thought is: "This would make a fantastic succession game"

I figure things would be more interesting with about 5 players each taking 2 year turns each coming back a decade later to see how things have changed and who's re-named what asteroid after themself. Maybe a conventional start too in the spirit of Dwarf Fortress FUN, but with double normal starting research facilities and TransNeutonian already pre-researched to keep the start from being too slow.

Any takers?

I've been trying to pick this up, but the F9 screen isn't working for me.

The F9 window?

*starts program and mashes F9*
*gets Error 713*

Ok, the good knews is that that window must not be very important since I've never used it before. The bad news is it's not working for me either.

So, turns out that there's a second folder that you have to unzip, next to the setup.exe. Now it all works! Now, to figure out how to play... I'm deciding to do a conventional start, to take it slow, because all the options are overwhelming otherwise. To compensate, I'm turning difficulty way down.

I think the diplomacy screen is broken too, unless you do this step. Not sure where the race portraits come in, it might also the be diplomacy screen...
