I am leaving on Sunday @ really-freaking-early AM for a summer camp. It lasts a week, and there are no computers allowed, so internet access is out of the question for me. Not that the service would be any good, but still... Anyways, feel free to NPC Vanalya if you have to, SanguinePenguin. Given that the meeting at the Blind Sailor is coming up, I feel that this is a likely possibility.
So... yeah... Is there a way you can leave what happened to Alexander ambiguous and have him just be late to the Blind Sailor for now? I'm sure if he returned you and he could find a reason for that to be the case without him being dead. Unless his interaction is going to directly affect our Blind Sailor incursion, that is.
Yes, it is ambiguous for the moment. On the plus side, Werewhale wrote me to let me know that he unfortunately can't continue the game. No more mystery there. (In case you are concerned, he is fine, just busy.)
I am going to think of what to do with him. In the meantime, I am considering reopening applications for another player. I am not certain this is necessary though.
We currently have (with everyone also a "face"): Characters

The party is rather well-rounded. It doesn't seem entirely necessary to add anyone. I think at this point, the main reason I want to add someone is just to throw some flesh blood in the mix and hopefully invigorate the game... but honestly that seems like a bad reason. I should invigorate the game. (However, I should add that if I do try to recruit another player, I would only bring one in who I think will add a lot to the game. I'm not just looking for a body.)
Hopefully tonight, I will fast forward to the Blind Sailor, I'll have a lengthy description of the events prior to the show.
@Ajadea: you wanted to do automatic writing. Before you go (have fun at camp), I want to make some comments on this... I think automatic writing is a really cool power, but as an augury, it is a little messed up.
First: I don't like the spend 1 hour to see half an hour into the future. I rule that this time limit is relaxed a bit. Still, a few hours into the future it all the it can see at this level.
Second: Because I think it is more fun (and "realistic"), I would like automatic writing to produce odd phrases and nonsense that pertain to events to come. They are intended to be cryptic, but to deliver (hopefully with roughly 90% effectiveness) a clear Weal, Woe, Weal/Woe or Nothing result. There may be other useful information in there as well. As you go up in level, the messages will get less cryptic and more direct (so that at ~5th lvl they work roughly like divination, at ~8th level they work like commune). Of course, if you prefer a static Weal, Woe, Weal/Woe or Nothing result, we can do that instead. It is up to you.
Third: I will need a *specific* question from you to answer. You still need to ask a question that has weal/woe type answers (i.e. Will this further our investigation? Will the party be fun? Should I eat this?) Please provide that.

I'm cool with the changes. Let's see...I think the question Vanalya will ask will be 'What will happen when Evin meets with Gair Jide?' Straightforward enough to give a 'good stuff'/'bad stuff'/'good & bad stuff' answer, and unlikely to give a 'nothing of note' answer.
I agree that we don't have serious holes in the party as is. Even with our specialized investigator gone (good luck to Wherewale, btw), we have plenty of 'face' ability, like you said. We have our bases covered with lots of spellcasting and varied skills, and I find that one primary meleer is fine enough for combat (which isn't our main focus anyway).
I'm glad to know Werewhale is alright, and I agree that the party as is is still quite well-rounded. However, I'm also cool with recruiting another player. Whatever you decide is fine .

Sorry, I haven't had internet all day and I'm going hiking tomorrow, so I don't know if I'll get a post up in the morning or not, but hopefully! Within 24 hours for sure!
Also, I love the post!

Mine? Thanks! I'm kinda mad at myself, to tell the truth: I would have liked to put in at least one verse of the song...but it seems that writing believable song verses is an ability that I won't acquire anytime soon.
And as for the part about the bother of having to clean blood from the doorstep, I confess I have taken ispiration from an Italian protest song. Don't hurt me.

That is an excellent question. For the moment, I'll go along with what they say IC, because, well, that's what Evin would do, but it would make me feel better if we had a plan OOC...

Yes... even I am curious what you will do with Evin's new friends. Also, while Alexander is missing, Sulet is in attendance.
That he is.
Alright, so, couple of things. The past week I've been putting affairs in my life in order, and thats taken away a lot of posting time. For the next week, I should post as I should.
Next week is when its gonna get hectic. I'm gonna be moving out of my hometown out to LA, to get my acting career started up. Already have a place and whatnot, but between getting hooked up there, and getting a job, my posting is gonna be crazy. Sorry!

Wow, Cardea, that sounds great. Best of luck to you, and let us know how it goes!
And, the week after the next is where it's going to be hectic for me, too, since I'm going to be in Canada for a three-week holiday...so between the jet lag, the fact that I'm likely to be exhausted in the evening after a day spent trekking and sightseeing, and the fact that I'm not sure how many of the B&B I booked have wi-fi access, I probably won't be able to post every night. I don't plan on disappearing completely, though!

I understand some of us are busy, but even with reduced posting rates, let's try to keep things moving. Those who have been identified to be in the Second Sons have left. You are in the bar with a bunch of drunken sailors. Aside from Alexander, who never showed up, all of you are there. You have about 4 hours until the meeting time. You may want to plan (or do something else) in this time. Most retail storefronts will be closed now, and the market is dead at this hour.
Edit: Also, I've opened a thread for re-recruitment. I am only going to take a new player if I really think they would be a good fit, so there ultimately might be no addition.

Both of the bridges over the Shai are huge. Both the Perth and the Gandara flow together to form the Shai in the center of Perth. The Slum side of the Southern Shai Bridge is at the intersection of two major roads. It is not extremely close to any major features of the city (the Barracks side of the bridge is close to Lord Tennemor's home though). There are a few things within a few blocks of there though including, for instance, the Blind Sailor.
Places to hide? This is difficult to gauge. The bridge itself is devoid of places to hide. The slums are loaded with hiding spots, but not right in the intersection of the roads, it depends on where the meeting happens / where and if the meeting goes / what the PCs want to accomplish in their hiding.

Okay, only three bites so far, maybe one will stick.
I assume you guys wanted to plan? I can't really just move things forward to the meeting without any idea of what you want to do.
Edit: Also GBSD (and Beriadan), concerning recruiting, one of the characters proposed (in PM) sounds pretty interesting, but would probably be LE. Personally, I'm not a stickler for the paladin's can't abide evil sort of thing - so in my world it isn't true. A paladin can work with an evil individual who is not overtly committing evil acts and is furthering his perceived case of good. As you may have noticed, I have a slightly different view of alignment than the core. I wanted to hear your thoughts on this idea of possibly taking an evil character (who is still trying to improve Perth, of course) into the party.

Well, the two characters probably wouldn't be best of friends, but as long as Beriadan sees that this fellow is helping Perth (and, upon realizing his nature, gets a thumbs up from the church) I don't see a problem.
And I want to plan, but I also don't want to double post.
I was waiting for some input from the others, personally, but hey. I'll move things along if noone else wants to.
And a LE teammate...hmmm. Evin won't like it one single bit. But I've got no problem with that if you don't mind a little character conflict (okay, little more than a little, probably).

So, depending on post rate, this planning phase may take a while. Should we do all the planning in the IC thread, or is it possible for us to make some plans here and then "montage" the IC thread somewhat?
If the new character is mainly doing good deeds, would you plan for Evin to find out he's evil through Beriadan? He could, in theory, keep that a secret... though now that I think about it, he probably wouldn't.

I had not thought about that. To be perfectly honest, Evin wouldn't need a seal of "certificated evil" by a paladin to dislike someone who doesn't have his outlook on the world. I mean, he pretty much disliked Alexander, and the man was lawful good . I'd assume an evil character, even when not doing overtly evil deeds is going to have a...shall we say different way to see and approach problems?
But hey, if Beriadan wants to let Evin in on the gossip, I won't complain.

I was just thinking of ways to head off irreconcilable differences. The way I see it, IC drama is good and fine as long as it doesn't lead to interaction that grinds everything else to a halt. Not that I think anything like that is going to happen here necessarily; I've just experienced it before, and it's pretty lame. I like the way the Giant puts it in the "decide to react differently" part of this article.
Frankly, I love character conflict, as long as the game doesn't stop or progress in a manner that seems very artificially (i.e. paladin remains oblivious while his companion burns down yet another orphanage), I will allow and encourage inter-PC conflict. Near the end of the first chapter, I was a bit concerned about the "artificial" progress, because several characters seemed to hate each other (but that got smoothed out).
Of course, I am not going to add a character to the party whose very nature fundamentally undermines the goals of the party (as that would likely lead either to game-shattering conflicts or artificial unity). However, an "ends justifies the means" type of character disagree with the others in the party as to the best approach, but they can share an ultimate vision. Only if either character is completely unyielding do major issues in this sort of place. I don't think Beriadan is this way, but 9/10 paladins are.
Unsolicited alignment rant:
Spoiler
Too many people seem to identify "evil" with "eats babies" or something comparably awful. Here are a few of my thoughts on alignment:
Good: Willing to sacrifice self to achieve goals, unwilling to sacrifice others
Neutral: Unwilling to sacrifice either self or others to achieve goals or willing to sacrifice both self and others to achieve goals
Evil: Willing to sacrifice others to achieve goals, unwilling to sacrifice self
(Where sacrifice does not here imply death, but any loss. For instance, Alexander sacrificed a lot in his life for his goals, e.g. friendships, jobs, prestige. All of these are things he was willing to lose. In this way, he was "good.")
Law: Strictly adheres to a well-defined code
Neutral: Generally adheres a well-defined code
Chaos: Does not adhere to a well-defined code
Personally, I think this is how I think of alignment. The "code" is generally the "laws" of the location, but not necessarily. Some laws, like not killing others, fall first under the "good," and that takes priority. But alignment is such a convoluted system with so much gray area that I'd just abolish it in my games would it not render a lot of magic ineffective.

That seems like how I view alignment in general, but there are always exceptions. For instance, I could see an evil person sacrificing himself for, say, his evil god.
Again, I'm not going to try to cause the same ultimatum crap that I have suffered through before. No worries from this corner.
For myself, I dislike the label of Evil... actually, I dislike the whole oversimplification of good and evil, and since I like the exploration of those ideas as a theme for any character forced to make decisions where someone could die, I dislike the alignment association.
I've found that this alignment system works wonderfully for me.
