More on topic: what now? Vanalya is not going to let you tie Basel up. She really wants him to think of them as allies, and between Sulet's hat, Beriadan's miserable Diplomacy, Alexander's penchant for Intimidate, and someone (she couldn't see Nick) shooting at them in the midst of negotiations, she knows that it's going to be an uphill battle. But she's stubborn enough to try fighting that battle.
We could try telling him who we really are, maybe introduce him to Grosh. If he's a native of Perth then he would have had to heard of the Adventure's guild. Or we could wait out the spell or have Max the day digger vouch for us. I'm thinking one us should be on the lookout though, so I might have Nicholas climb back up onto the mausoleum and keep watch.
It seems like the party might be at an impasse. As a summary, the options posed seem to be:
- Wait out the magic
- Befriend him (difficult if even possible)
- Let him 'escape'
- Let him go
-- Tell him to go to his master
-- Tell him it was a misunderstanding
-- Tell him something else
-- Tell him nothing
Some caveats:
- Many are greatly opposed to tying him up, so that is probably off the table.
- Charm spells could take a few hours, or even days to wear off.
- Overall, he is hostile to the party.
- Right now, he has the following basic dispositions to the party:
-- Alexander: Terrified of him
-- Nicholas: Since after the battle, seems to be not so scary
-- Vanalya: Hangs out with psychopaths, but otherwise seems nice
-- Evin: He was singing as they attacked
-- Beriadan: Falsely claims to worship Iomedae
-- Elun: Hangs out with psychopaths, but otherwise says nothing
-- Sulet: Crap-your-pants terrified of him
@Cardea: On that note... I might suggest an alignment change for Sulet. His behavior is, at the very least, chaotic.

Tehehehehe.
Yeah, okay.

My vote is for either letting him escape, perhaps with one or more of the people hes not scared of anymore assisting him in getting to his friends to keep an eye on him, and to get him out of the way we get there bringing him to a cleric, pooling our money to have the enchantment removed.
Basel has a point about the whole singing thing, in Evin's case. And it might be a bit of Roy towards Elan as well: just that sort of 'Go Away, you are Not Helping' attitude. Also, she's annoyed and tired and angry, and that is affecting her judgement.
Well, things devolved, but a large part of that stemmed from Basel's disconnect with reality, and I'm guessing Vanalya knows that (at least in the back of her mind).
Can we use Conviction for skill rolls? And can I spend another 2 for another reroll? I got a 12 then a 13.
Yes, of course you can use conviction to reroll (on that note, everyone will get two conviction for this encounter). Also, it is only one point to, before the roll, choose to roll twice.
I think we should let him go. And follow him. With us having convinced him were inept not psychopathic hopefully he'll go to is friend. Or maybe we can convince him we want to apologize to his friend and make reparations for the pets we killed.
I think we might be trying not to destroy all future hopes at contacting this guy here. Stalking him is not likely to improve his opinion of us. So the second option is better, I think. IC, Vanalya might have issues playing along; a dead thing is a dead thing, she doesn't consider them to have that much value.
Neither does Nicholas, but to this guys mind they were pets. So far Nicholas has seen that trying to challenge his view causes him distress. It might not be the best for him, but if we can't remove the enchantment it might be the safest.
Hm, I hadn't mentioned anything in his backstory, but Beriadan probably would have visited the temple regularly since he became a paladin. I'll let you decide who knows him, and who he knows.
On an unrelated note... while I love the party's bickering, and all the drama that is forming, I am also a little troubled by the thought of trying to persuade you crazy folk to stick together after completion of this adventure. There is no "stuck-in-this-mess" glue to hold you together for very long, no "we've-known-each-other-so-we-are used-to-this" backstory to keep them coming back for more, and definitely no "we-generally-agree-and-like-each-other-sentiment" present... so I'm sort of at a loss as to how to keep you all working together in a realistic fashion.
This is partially due to the raging success of what I was trying to get out of this campaign - good role players, forceful personalities and strong goals. While you all satisfy these... it also seems most of your characters now hate each other (if they didn't before). Now that I did not anticipate...
@Beriadan: Yeah, I figured you know a few people. William the Bright is who is mentioned, you probably know one or two other minor paladins and two or three of the clerics well. This probably means you aren't going to know anyone you deal with tonight, but you might recognize them.
Hopefully some trial with the necromancer will convince us we are all on the same side, and either have us like each other or at least make us willing to work together again.
