Can I(we) take 10 on climb checks to climb the tower?(All the way or just part of the way) The idea is to climb the tower to get a better look if there are alternate means of entry. If yes, can it be done stealthily, or would that then require a roll?
I have this nasty feeling that all my high rolls on Stealth and Perception checks lately will translate into a row of natural ones when it comes to checks with consequences for failure.
Grappling hook can't be thrown that far... they have a range increment of ten and a maximum range of fifty feet.
No taking ten (I feel taking ten on an unsecured climb is lame), however again conviction can a) keep your character alive, b) allow him/her to reroll a botched roll. You can take ten for the first 10 feet, but after that, DC 15 climb checks. On an 11-14, you don't fall but you don't progress. 10 or lower is a drop. So it is 5 checks minimum. On a fall you will take between 1d6 non lethal damage (the ground is soft) to 1d6 non-lethal damage and 4d6 lethal.
If someone gets to the top a rope can be attached for others, with a rope you can take ten. If someone wants to try climbing, I recommend bringing Nicholas's rope with you.
So do we want to split into teams? The worst scenarios Ic an see with this are half the party running into the two crazy siblings while the other half runs into the zombies and 'the native' human skeleton. My guess is the native's an old guard who died there, the zombies are some of the corpses. Worried about where the other ones are. 7 graves were dug up right?
also, apologies if it seems I'm rambling a little. I'm a little under the weather, which is at the momeny keeping me up to hours I haven't experienced since I worked the night shift. Still going to try and post, but it might be a bit brief for a few days. Will still try and keep it above I shoot things and walk though.
Sulet is the best climber if he removes his chain shirt (with a +7).
I just realized a minor flaw in the climbing... If you roll a bunch of checks and then fail one of them you will know if you are going to succeed on another check or have to pay conviction again... But if you roll them one at a time you slowly will fill up the thread. So to keep some mystery, I'll ask you to do the following:
Make the 3 checks. Then decide whether to fall (if there was one or more failures) or keep going. If keep going, roll three more, repeat until you top out.
Again 10 or less, fall (or pay 2 conviction to reroll - Sulet has 8)
11-14 no progress
15 or more advance 10 feet
At full health, Sulet is also the most likely to survive the 4d6 (+1d6 nonlethal) damage (although, unless I am mistaken his wounds were never healed).
So we discovered the large marks were most likely giant badger marks. We also found smaller marks that went unidentified. We decided to wait till night fall near the three most recent graves to see what showed up. We hid near, in or on a mausoleum. What appeared was a rather scraggly looking man being followed by a dire badger zombie and two dog sized skeletons. He spotted one of us, but never said who and Vanalya was able to convince him it was her, then proceeded to talk to him, at first to give us time to do something and then to try and convince him to give her information. She learned he was in fact Basel. Nicholas got nervous and fired a smoke arrow at his feet.
We got a round to attack and then Basel started screaming for his undead to protect him. Then he started running. Nicholas took out the two skeleton dogs, one after Sulet tripped one, and Beriadan, you and Evin (mostly Beriadan with his smite) took down the dire badger. Withb that done we all moved to Basel and tried talking to him, but he was terrified of us. A few good and bad diplomacy checks didn't change much. Then a few of us with sense motive and Vanalya with detect magic discovered he was enchanted. Some discussion on what to do and more diplomacy checks with Basel led us to the church of Iomedae to have one of the priests dispel his enchantment.
When it was dispelled he screamed and broke down crying, trying to tell us that she made him do it. He proceeded to tell us of two siblings in watch tower near the graveyard. The sister charmed him, and is apparently twisted. The brother raises the dead. He has seen three zombies and a skeleton they call the native, my guess an old guard from the tower itself way back. But they also have 7 corpses. We go to the tower after Evin pays the priest and we secure a message to be sent to our guild leader.
Now we're discussing a plan. We had 2 and a half hours upon leaving the church before Basel was to be expected at his latest.
Again: welcome back! (I won't do Snoopy's happy dance, you already got one in the other thread...)
What Arillius said. Also, at the moment we are near the tower, and our plan so far is that some of us climb the tower to provide cover/an ambush, while others (for now, Evin and Vanalya if I didn't miss anyone else) knock on the front door and bluff our way in.

Pretty much.
Also, how high is the tower?

The tower is about sixty-seventy feet in height, it is a far distance to look up in the night. The square tower is probably 40 ft by 40 ft and extends vertically with straight sides.
I don't know if I have to roll or not to tie two things of rope together, so I'll just take a ten and hope for the best; I believe we have that kind of time. In any event, here we go.
Edit: AHAHAHAHAHA OH GOD THAT WAS SCARY. Twenty feet, I take it?
Edit Two: The fact that Sulet hasn't critically failed yet at this point frightens me. Same with his success rate of things.
