I'll probably just charge Vertasi and start hammering away at him with Curse Strike, etc.
You can get flank, too. Good, that worked out well, then. I couldn't remember if you were melee or not. Are you still going to paralyse him? He can teleport away if he gets in trouble.

Who can teleport?

Vertasi. Shorthand for "turn into mist". Yes, I know they're not technically the same thing, but still. From my gamer perspective "can escape if things get difficult"

Oh, I see. Yeah, he has an escape mechanism, but its not quite teleporting in a mechanical sense.

Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
Hmm. Immobilization wouldn't stop him from turning into mist, I wouldn't think anyway, but presumably he'd still be immobilized. I guess I'll stick with Eyes of the Vestige then, until something else is needed anyway.
Although I'm not sure we need to immobilize him this turn. Thoughts?
Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
Alright, still waiting on moves for Kihtsah and Rahman, and an idea of what y'all want Teshiq to do. I can have him just continue to MBA that pirate with Finisher.

Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
And thanks to the jagged property, there's another crit. I didn't even need the oath reroll. Total of 37 damage for forceful call, plus another ongoing 10.
Free attack with short sword: (1d20+20)[32] (1d20+20)[39]
Damage: (1d6+11)[16]
EDIT: Pretty sure that hits, so 99 damage this turn plus the 10 ongoing damage he'll take at the start of his next one? He's bloodied now, right?

Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
This happened with the ghost, too. As soon as I haul out the big guns, you guys are all "get ALL the crits!" and then the big guns die horrendously fast. .

Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
Crits are sorta what Kihtsah is built to do, 19-20 crit range on the Kopesh, making two attack rolls a round normally? 1 in 5 shot of criting each attack with my main hand.

Post is in the works. My computer crashed unexpectedly while I was working on the post and I lost all the fluff text I had finished. It was good fluff, too .

Alright, enemy phase is a breeze on the new computer. Things are now heating up on the deck of the Midnight Mirage; I'm sure you guys will find a solution, though, you're a resourceful lot . Especially now that you've got all your encounter powers back (those that were unspent do not gain a second used).

Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
Times like this I'm glad 4e is more forgiving when it comes to coup-de-graces.
Just confirming that Qurab doesn't have any accuracy penalties I'm aware of. Also, making sure he took the mighty 2 damage from hitting me from Gaze of the Gilded Eye.
Would it be possible in the future to make the text for the icons on the map larger/more distinct? They're a bit tricky at the moment.
EDIT: And can I still make minor action basic attacks with my short sword from scorpion's sting, or is it not my off-hand weapon anymore since I don't have the kopesh?

Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
Ummmm... my positions seem all wrong. Did Figment and Amirah get force-moved? Amirah shouldn't be in melee with V at all, she shifted to F12, and Figment was summoned to E12.
Edit: Also, how many squares up is the guy in the crow's nest?

Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
Map for corrected Amirah and Figment positions:
Spoiler
The crow's nest is 6 squares up and has total cover from below.
EDIT: And no, no Scorpion's Sting unless you can find a second weapon. Using the feat requires you to be wielding two weapons. If you could find a second weapon, I would let you make attacks with the weapon that was your off-hand weapon when the ability was triggered.
EDIT EDIT: Keep in mind that you're prone, so you haven't got much in the way of minor actions to spend making those bonus attacks anyway.

Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
One more question: do we get an AP? We had an encounter in the water, and a second one that just finished. If I'm not forgetting any, that should be enough to give us the AP, right?
---------
Any ideas for a strategy here? I'm ready to start blasting again, but I might have to wait for the enemies to close in for it to be fully effective.

Hmm, I could have sworn this sort of question has come up before, but I can't find an answer to it. With Fury's Advance, do I have to shift after making the push?
Also, anyone else notice that this game is over a year old now? I was surprised at that.

Re: [Hourglass of Zihaja D&D 4e] Heroes on a Sea of Swords OOC
Unfortunately, we have finished a grand total of 3 encounters in that time . The three+ month hiatus didn't help our momentum, sorry. I intend to get onto much more interesting story stuff once this simple bounty mission gone wrong has been resolved, promise.
With Fury's advance, the way I see it, if you push, you must shift. Because there is a stipulation that the shift must end adjacent to the target, I would argue that the expanded wording is this:
"You may push them up to INT mod squares, and then shift up to INT mod squares to a square adjacent to them." The shift can be 0 squares, but it still has to be adjacent at the end.

Otherwise I say focus fire on Vertasi.
If I didn't think that'd be dangerous for whomever is left up here, I'd say go for it. But we have one man almost down, and the only one that can break through is Amirah, who is also the most resilient person in the group.
OK, I'll concentrate in Vertasi this turn, and re-consider blasting next turn.
Re: A year, only 3 encounters: These are big encounter, Shadow Elf. I mean, three-section fights with boss enemies are not things to sneeze at.
Edit to add: By the way, Shadow Elf, I noted you created a swarm druid refluffed as a water elemental in another game... was Amirah part of the inspiration for that?

She was indeed part of the inspiration for that. The character sort of came about when I noticed that there was a new druid build in the Elemental Chaos book. However, after some experimentation, I realized the build was quite undersupprted. Then I put together the Alessa concept for a water elemental, drawing on some of the reflavouring you used for Amirah as a baseline for the build.
After this encounter, where do you guys want to see the game go? I'll be adding one or two new characters from the rerecruitment thread, and obviously they'll have some input, but I'd like to hear what you guys are thinking now. If you want longer adventuring days with less cataclysmic encounters for a change, then some land-based adventuring will have to happen at some point; I can't think of a way to have 5 minute rests between encounters when you spend one day boarding a single ship, but a dungeon crawl would be a different story.

Yay! I'm glad that the idea is getting extended use. I've played four or five druids, and I find that the class in 4E is perfect for all kinds of interesting refluffing - in fact, I have never played it as a "true neutral defender of nature" stereotype from 3.5.

I like being on ships, and I don't mind the extended encounters. I'd love some actual ship-to-ship combat, too, with our ship actually helping the melee as we discussed a long time ago. I still think I'd be a cool idea.
As to resting, you could have us take a flotilla. Hit one ship, rest for 5 minutes while positioning and initial salvoes, board the next one, rest, etc. Naval battles aren't that mobile to begin with, and from what little I have read.
