The Nine Hells of Baator, nine layers of torment, and home to the Devils, beings of Evil and Order. Dark cities hide innumerable political intrigues as practised schemers try to advance their own position at the expense of their competitors.
Certain things unite the Devils however. Among them is their hatred of the Demons, the manifestations of Dark Chaos. For untold millennia they have fought the Blood War, the great conflict between Order and Chaos that rages through the multiverse. But a terrifying new offensive by the Demons has brought the battle into the heart of Baator. While the Devils may criticise their adversaries for being unsubtle, Demons are far more cunning than is sometimes thought. A small group of Demons have now infiltrated the Nine Hells and are seeking to undermine the Devils from within.
In this time of crisis, the Devils are trying to root out the Demons hidden in their midst. And among the Archdevils, the great rulers of Baator, there are those who are prepared to use this upheaval to their own political advantage. Times are about to become very interesting.
Rules
Spoiler
Basic rules may be found here.
Votes must be in red text. Vote changes must be indicated by striking through the previous vote.
Day phases will be roughly 48 hours, Night phases roughly 24.
The 25% rule does not apply in this game. Helgraf’s scry interference rule is being used in this game.
Auto-lynches will occur after three consecutive days without pointing.
Roles
Spoiler
Note: Depending on number of players, not all listed roles may be used (particularly Archdevils), and there may be multiples of some of the Devil powerroles.
Devils
Spoiler
A collection of the inhabitants of Baator, the Devils are looking to uncover the Demon threat and eliminate them. Those who serve a specific Archdevil are also dedicated to helping their overlord achieve his or her goals. The Devils win by eliminating all the Demons.
Pit Fiend
The greatest of the common types of devil, as such terrifying beings their lynch vote counts as 2 and breaks ties. They are also skilled in arcane arts. Every night, a Pit Fiend may scry a single player to discover their role.
Horned Devil
Elite defenders and soldiers supreme, Horned Devils can target one player each night. Due to their attention that player must make themselves scarce. Any night actions that player attempted fail and they may not post during the subsequent day phase. A Horned Devil may not target the same player on two consecutive nights.
Barbed Devil
Barbed Devils are often employed as vault guardians or bodyguards, and are gifted at shielding others (or themselves) from harm. Each night they may target one player. That player cannot be killed for any reason during the night. In addition, the barbs that give this breed of devil their name are somewhat off-putting. The lynch vote against them is reduced by 1.
Bone Devil
The police and informers of the Nine Hells, each night a Bone Devil can follow one player and discover which Archdevil they are loyal to (or none if this is the case). Scry interference does not apply to this ability.
Erinyes
Fallen angels who serve as messengers and scouts for powerful devils. They can also turn their abilities to other ends. During the night phase, an Erinyes may attempt to kill a single player. This ability has a 1 night cooldown.
Bearded Devil
The rank and file of the devils, they possess no additional abilities.
Archdevils
Spoiler
The Lords of the Nine, rulers of the Nine Hells. Each Archdevil is the lord of one of the nine layers, and ultimately answerable to Asmodeus, Lord of the Ninth and Supreme Ruler of Hell. As authority figures, their votes count as 3 and break ties.
Each Archdevil also can build a following. They begin play with 1 or 2 followers (depending on size of game). Each day phase, an Archdevil can PM the narrator the name of a player they wish to recruit to their following. Players receive offers of recruitment at the end of the day phase. Players may refuse if they wish. Demons and other Archdevils cannot be recruited. A player may only belong to one following at a time, if they accept an offer they leave any previous following. They are informed of which Archdevil is offering them recruitment, but not which player has that role. Players have until the end of the night phase to respond, at which point the Archdevil is informed whether the player has joined them or not (though not whether it is a matter of refusal or whether the target was a Demon or Archdevil). The player is still not informed the player identity of the Archdevil; it is up to the Archdevil if they wish to reveal this.
If an Archdevil is targeted by either the Demon night kill or a Beast ability, it is switched to a random follower (assuming they have any). They also have a 10% chance of surviving Assassin kills per follower, to a maximum of 80%.
In addition, each Archdevil has abilities of their own, and some of them grant additional abilities to their followers. They also all have personal secondary victory conditions. To win, each Archdevil (and their followers) must both eliminate the Demons and achieve any secondary conditions. Followers are informed of any abilities and victory conditions when they join an Archdevil’s following.
Asmodeus
The greatest of the Archdevils, with great powers of control. Asmodeus has held his throne for time immemorial and has no desire to relinquish it now. He keeps a close watch on the other Archdevils, checking for any signs they might be preparing to move against him.
Mephistopheles
An ambitious Archdevil, who has told Asmodeus to his face that one day, he will rule Baator. He is also a great rival of Baalzebul.
Baalzebul
Baalzebul is the malformed slug archduke of the seventh layer. He is famous for his hatred of Mephistopheles, and it is suspected that he resents being forced into his current (and very unappealing) form by Asmodeus. While Mephistopheles shows more direct power, Baalzebul is a schemer and spymaster, and not to be underestimated.
Glasya
Asmodeus’ daughter, who has recently been given rulership of the sixth layer by her father. As the newest member of the Lords of the Nine, she is currently still consolidating her position.
Levistus
The rogue Archdevil, who has spent much of the past few millennia inside an iceberg for acting against Asmodeus. The lord of hell has given Levistus his status back, but rarely frees him from his frozen prison. In this time of crisis, his support is valued, but the other Archdevils do not trust Levistus, and it is known that he in turn hates every one of them.
Belial & Fierna
While Fierna is officially the ruler of the fourth layer, it is common knowledge that her father Belial, the former ruler, actually runs things from behind the scenes. Fierna is mostly interested in enjoying the privileges of her rank, though it would be foolish to underestimate the trouble this could bring for her fellow Archdevils. As for Belial, he is also worth watching, as he could be looking to assemble supporters, both for long term plotting, and to ensure his daughter doesn’t get beyond his control.
Mammon
One of the least trusted Archdevils, Mammon is a turncoat’s turncoat. The other Lords of the Nine are unlikely to trust him, and thus he is unlikely to find allies there. Still he can offer great things to anyone wishing to join him, and it would be wise to watch him closely.
Dispater
The utterly paranoid Lord of the Second, though paranoia is understandable in any Archdevil who has maintained his position as long as Dispater has. He is determined to keep an eye on anyone who might be plotting against him. He also has a strong affinity for Erinyes.
Bel
A former Blood War general, unlike the other Archdevils, who have varied and unique appearances, Bel is clearly a Pit Fiend. His role in the War has given him options outside his fellow Lords, and he is far more likely to build a power base from his previous role.
Demons
Spoiler
The group of Demons lurking within the Nine Hells, trying to bring down their hated foes from within. The Demons may attempt to kill one player each night by PMing the narrator. They win when their numbers equal the surviving Devils.
Balor
Among the greatest and most terrible of demons, the Balor’s vote counts as 2 and breaks ties. In addition, they can intimidate one player during the night. That player cannot post during the subsequent Day phase. The Balor may not target the same player on two consecutive nights. As a final power, the Balor explodes in a blinding flash of light when killed, destroying one of the players targeting him (this can never hit a fellow Demon – they know to keep their distance).
Marilith
The Marilith is a six-armed serpent demon queen, and a great demonic general. She has a gift for strategy and misdirection. Each night she may target one player. All points against that player the next day are moved onto a different player of her choice. She may not choose the same target to move points away from on consecutive nights. In addition, she has assorted other gifts at her disposal. If the Nalfeshnee is killed, she gains a scry ability. Also, if the Balor is killed she is prepared to put her cunning to use in his stead. She may lead one player into a trap during the night, preventing them from posting the next day. This final ability has a 1 night cooldown.
Nalfeshnee
The massive Nalfeshnee possesses impressive arcane ability. Each night he may scry one player to learn their role.
Glabrezu
Typically, Glabrezu exist to tempt mortals with offers of power. Here, the Glabrezu has turned his gifts to other ends. Each night, he may disguise a player of his choice as any role for the purposes of scrying.
Hezrou
A hulking demonic sergeant with an incapacitating stench which makes it hard to get close. The lynch vote against the Hezrou is reduced by 2.
Succubus
A seductive female demon, the Succubus can distract one player each night, negating any night actions they attempted. In addition, she is a gifted shapeshifter. She scries as an Erinyes.
Vrock
The core of the demonic force, possessing no additional abilities.

The Honest Man (3.5 LG human fighter), Princess Kailee (4e Good elf cleric), Elric (4e Good human paladin)
Talia Dakashnit (3.5 CE human fighter), Gabriel Stryfe (d20 Modern fast hero), Tacin Willow (3.5 NG human fighter//bard)
I'll join.
Each archdevil starts with at least one follower, right? That means the first follower can't decline (not sure what'd happen with the demons and the other Archdevils) or does they can keep trying to recruit until someone accepts or is the ones from the start selected randomly?
Edit: If the kill is redirected, will it be stated as such?

Starting followers are selected randomly from the player list (excluding Demons and Archdevils). It will be included in the relevant role PMs.
And no, it won't be stated if the kill is redirected.

Archdevils are informed if their followers join somebody else, though not who they joined.
And the priorities for tied votes are:
1. If one side has an Archdevil and the other doesn't, the Archdevil breaks the tie. If both sides or neither have Archdevils...
2. If one side has a Balor/Pit Fiend and the other doesn't, the Balor/Pit Fiend breaks the tie. If both sides or neither have a Balor/Pit Fiend...
3. Whichever bandwagon got there first (usual rules)

Fluffwise, there are some problems. Succubi are not known to participate in Blood war whatsoever, for example. Also, I would hardly call vrocks and bearded devils as rank and file, possesing no special abilities.
That said, the chance to participate in Blood war is just too tempting for me. As such, I shall join.

This place is not a place of honor…no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here… nothing valued is here.
"There will come a day so dark you will pray for death. On that day your prayers will be answered."
Book of shadows, book of night, wake the beast and banish light.
One question, is it possible for there to be more than one of any role apart from vrock and bearded devil? This is due to the descriptions being in the plural form.
Starting August 4th, I will be without internet for possibly a very long time. Please PM me if there are any questions for me, but do not expect an answer for weeks at a time. Thank you for your patience.

It won't be possible for any of the other Demon roles, and obviously each Archdevil is unique, but there may be multiples of some of the Devil roles, depending on game size.

I'm hoping to get started later this week. Since recruitment started much later than I wanted, the game has ended up starting late. I'm still hoping to get a few more players. 25 would be ideal, 30 would make me very pleased, but I'm not holding my breath.

Well, I had hoped for one or two more players, but I can't wait forever. Recruitment is closed, and role PMs will be sent shortly. It may take a little while to sort, so please bear with me.
