I'm gonna be against the flow here and say outlined.
What? Everyone else are against the flow too, okay?

Re: anti-HEROES: For every ending, there is a beginning.
I love the work you guys are doing, but I have one criticism. Please stop with all the OOTS shoutbacks. First it was the explosive runes, then Roy in the inn, now the "trees are attacking" bit.
It actually is really annoying because it breaks me out of the story in a way that no other joke does. It also continues to emphasize connections between Anti-Heroes and OOTS in a way that I think undermines the integrity of your own story - instead of the story being your own, it seems increasingly dependent upon Rich's and the popularity of Rich's strip. Anti-Heroes owes a lot to OOTS no doubt, both in terms of art and audience, but have a big neon sign flashing over the fact all the time makes your story feel more like fan-fic than a story on its own merit.
Anywho, that's my little rant, but seriously please stop. Everything else you are getting right but the sheer number and overtness of OOTS callbacks is really dragging it down a bit. They aren't funny either, they are just sort of there, as in "Oh, yeah. That was an OOTS reference."

Re: anti-HEROES: For every ending, there is a beginning.
Hmm. Well, Joy as a cameo was a cameo gag of which we are doing several (a few more, non oots, but other webcomics, are coming soon).
Explosive runes has turned into an internet wide thing, I've seen that gag on several dozen comics now.
And, the dwarves being afraid of trees is an OLD gag. Much older than OOTS. It's a freaking Lord of the Rings joke.
So, I do see your point, but it is in many cases more a matter of OOTS and us taking from the same source, in parallels. (THere was also a recent strip in which one character stated, let's not steal a gag from the Giant. That was a rewrite, because I had already written a script using that gag, and then it was used in OOTS. I rewrote the strip to NOT use the same gag, but did a call out to it in the comic.)

Hmm. I guess I can see how it could be inadvertent, then, but given that so many parallels hit in such a short span of time, I was beginning to fear this was not only 100% intentional, but would continue to occur. One way around it would be to say "hey, Rich used the dwarves are afraid of trees LOTR trope already, so lets subvert it and do something different, or use another dwarven trope."
I don't want my criticism to appear too harsh, as I said, I love the work you guys are doing. I think its great.
