Silly Message Board GamesA forum for any kind of quote games, continuing story games, "What would you do if?" games, or whatever anyone comes up with. Old threads will now expire after one month.
From the creator of "Mountain of Dwarfs", I present to you "The Gladiator Pit".
How it works:
Stats (Part 1)
Spoiler
The players will roll 1d6 in here, (and be honest about their rolls).
And with the number you got from that roll, that number of stat points add to their gladiator's stats, which include:
Health
Mana
Attack
Defense
Speed
As you may now, Health means how many hits you can take. Attack means how much damage you can inflict, and Defense means how much damage you can ignore/block. Mana is used to do special moves or cast spells. However, in the beginning Mana doesn't regenerate during matches, but it does refill after each match (along with Health). In time, gladiators can have the ability to regenerate Mana during matches, but I'll get to that later. Speed just determines who is fast enough to deliver the first blow.
Of course, all the stats start at 3.
Players can choose the race of their gladiators, which provide different kinds of bonuses and penalties. (Human is the default race for those who don't choose).
Every player has 10 coins to start with. This money is used to buy equipment for gladiators. Coins can be earned by winning fights (7 X gladiator's level), equipment can be taken from dead opponents and sold, or losing (that will be explained in the "Death" section)
Spoiler
You get the idea.
Equipment
Spoiler
Equipment can vary from weapons, armor, and potions.
Coins are used to buy these things.
Weapons and armor can provide bonuses to a gladiator's stats (which happens to be in parentheses right next to the stats).
Spoiler
Health 3 (+1)
Mana 3
Attack 3
Defense 3 (+1)
Speed 3
Some armor and weapons can grant you some powerful bonuses, but they need time to recharge to work again.

Leveling Up
Spoiler
Each gladiator is worth experience points.
A Level 1 gladiator is worth 1 experience. A Level 2 gladiator is worth 2 experience. A Level 3 gladiator would be worth 3 experience. You get the idea.
5 experience is all a gladiator needs to reach level 2. Then 15 experience to reach level 3. Then 30 experience will be needed to reach level 4. And to get to level 5, 55 experience will be needed.
The pattern is that the experience requirement keeps adding up according to the gladiator's level. [ Exp to level up = Exp requirement of last level + (Current level X 5) ]
But that is for up to level 5. After level 6, the experience requirement equation (or ERE for short, as I would like to call it).
[ Exp to level up = Exp requirement of last level + (Current level X 10) ]
When a gladiator gains a level, you get to roll a 1d6 for points to add to the gladiator's stats. After level 5, 2d6 will be rolled when a gladiator gains a level.
Death
Spoiler
What else would you expect in gladiator fights?
When a gladiator dies, the player who owned that gladiator will be given a compensation for the loss (5 X Gladiator's level).
From there, players have two options of getting a new gladiator.........
1) Get a gladiator at the level of the last gladiator (or anywhere below that and above the first level). The player will a number of six-sided dice according to the level the player desires. However, starting at a higher level will result in reduction of compensation.
2) Get a gladiator at level 1. Although the player can only roll 1d6 for stat points, but the player will have all the compensation money without any reductions.
Using Mana
Spoiler
Mana can be used to provide gladiators boosts, temporary bonuses, special attacks, summon other creatures to fight for them, and to even summon powerful weapons (but summoning spells only last till the end of each fight).
These abilities can be used more than once, but they will use up the gladiator's Mana.
Struggle - 1 Mana - (+0.5 Attack, +0.5 Defense) [A boost for the gladiator's Attack and Defense stats]
Dodge - 1 Mana - (+1 Speed) - [Opponent cannot hit your gladiator until your next turn. Doesn't work if opponent has more Speed]
Jab - 2 Mana - [Opponent loses 1 Health. Can only be once every 2 rounds.]
Taunt - 2 Mana - [-1 Defense and +1 Attack for opponent gladiator. Lasts for 2 rounds]
Deep Breath - 2 Mana - [Gladiator recovers 1 Health]
Embrace - 3 Mana - (+1 Defense) - [A boost for the gladiator's Defense]
Dust Cloud - 3 Mana - [-1 Attack for opponent gladiator. Ends at your gladiator's next turn]
War Cry - 4 Mana - (+2 Attack, +1 Defense) - [A boost for Attack and Defense. It ends after the gladiator attacks his/her opponent]
Wind Burst - 4 Mana - [-1 Speed for opponent gladiator. Lasts for 1 Round]
Magic Spark - 5 Mana - (+3 Attack) - [A magic attack that uses both the Attack bonus and the gladiator's Attack against the opponent]
Turn Invisible - 5 Mana - [When cast, the opponent cannot hit the opponent on his/her turn]
Intimidate - 6 Mana - [-1 Attack and -1 Speed to opponent. Lasts until next turn]
Charge - 6 Mana - [+2 Attack, +2 Speed, -1 Defense. Lasts until next turn]
More special moves and spells to be added later.
NPCs
Spoiler
If the player doesn't want their gladiator to face against another player's gladiator, they have the option of fighting against an NPC.
There are 3 different kinds of NPCs players can choose from: Easy, Regular, and Hard.
Easy NPCs are technically gladiators without weapons or armor. But they'll have stat points distributed according to the Emperor. While good for gaining experience, they have no loot.
Regular NPCs are gladiators that are equipped with weapons and armor. They'll have stat points distributed by the Emperor, and as well as what they'll be equipped with. They'll even smuggle in rare equipment into the arena. Equipment that no gladiator could buy.
Hard NPCs range from the Emperor's elite soldiers, wild creatures, and even boss monsters. The Emperor's soldiers get one more dice roll for stat points than the player's gladiator. And they're equipped with twice as good equipment as the player's gladiator. Boss monsters are far stronger than a player's gladiator, but the Emperor will grant up to 4 gladiators to fight against the boss monster. Hard NPCs will drop loot, as well as Coins. And they're worth twice as much experience. But players cannot roll for the Emperor's favor.

Reason: Got this wrong
I'll join, but first I have a question. Do the stats have to be rolled in order, or can they be rearranged?
Actually, you're rolling for the points you'll be adding to the stats your gladiator already has (All 3's with racial bonuses and penalties).
So if you rolled a 4, you have 4 points to add to any of your gladiator's stats.
You could add 1 point to the first four stats, add 2 points to two stats, or add 4 points to one stat. It is entirely up to your decision how those points are added.
@Felandria: I forgot to add the link to the dice roller. My bad.
@HypoSoc: You're only supposed to roll 1 6-sided die. See the above for how the stat points work.
Oh, whoops. I thought you rolled one die for every stat. Oh well, will having multiple characters be allowed, or should I just take my first roll of 5?
EDIT: Well, actually, I rolled d5 instead of d6, so I had to reroll anyway. My question about multiple characters still stands out of curiosity, though.

That is a toughie..... *scratches chin*
On the one hand, these gladiator fights are "fights to the death", so they tend to be killed off, and replaceable (I'll explain that when I'm done with the first post). I've heard about trainers owning more than one gladiator, but having teams of gladiators in the arena?
everyone is neutral on the racial bonus/penalties....except the zombie
--is the zombie supposed to be at negative 4 stats or is the defense bonus supposed to be +2 instead of -2?

Yeah, I noticed that myself. Either they should have some unique feature or they're just plain weaker than everyone else.

Reason: Added Gladiator for ease of finding
BTW would it cost any points to say I have a female alternate form named marceline?
and...I still win, >:D
It would be appropriate to have more than 1 gladiator. But to have an alternate form and that you might win....... maybe....
@HypoSoc: I suppose everyone starts with an NPC opponents (just to get a good idea on how it works).
How to pair gladiators with other gladiators in the next match, that could be determined by rolling a d20 (Pairing opponents according to the order. Lowest to highest that is).
