Let's Play Moemon LeafGreen: The Saga of Seed - Part II: More Moe Is Needed
((Yeah, I caved and re-named the thread.))
This is the story of a young girl on an adventure with the friends she makes along the way. This is a story about her scars and her broken world, in the hopes that something in them can be healed. This is a story about friendship, and wishes, and struggle, and it’s usually a comedy, at that. This is a story about some strange characters and the choices they make, and the bonds between them that, in some way or another, can be called “love.”
This is also a let’s play of Fizzmaister’s lovely Moemon hack for Leaf Green, replacing all the pokemon with chibi people in costume and heavily skewing the gender ratio towards most pokemon being girls. I play through trying to tell a little story along the way, hopefully entertaining some folks. That's what I did on the last thread, anyway.
Now, this LP is done as a sort of challenge, with a few rules separating it from standard pokemon game, in addition to the graphical differences (and gender distribution differences) created by the hack. It’s also not a traditional Nuzlocke run, though it’s largely Nuzlocke inspired. Note that you guys control as much party management as you want to, and can those vote pokemon movesets, and vote pokemon in and out of the team at any time – not just when a pokemon falls in battle or a new pokemon is caught.
The rules are as follows:
Spoiler
One pokemon per area, as selected by audience. Gift pokemon do not count towards that total.
Once a pokemon faints, it’s over for that pokemon.
Starter immunity does apply, until such point as it doesn’t.
Each pokemon must have at least one line of dialogue. They’re our friends, and characters in their own right.
If the whole party falls at once, the LP is over. If enough pokemon die that a team of one cannot be fielded, then the LP is also over.

The Team
Spoiler
Azula. Seed's starter. Formal, but also kinda cold. A strong fighter. Has an agenda, and debated dominance over the rest of the team. She sincerely wants to see Seed succeed, whatever her motivations. She's growing more protective and fond of her companions. Having been left abandoned and neglected by her first trainer for a very long time due to being too weak to be useful to him, she used to be very concerned about whether or not she (or anyone else) is "able to serve." Perhaps the experience drove her a little crazy. She acts as Seed's main source of knowledge about the world of Moemon. She hates to lose, admit she doesn't know something, or be proven wrong. She's getting better. She evolved in the moment she decided to believe in Seed's belief in her, which stands as perhaps the only thing other than strength which is solid in her heart. She now sees Loyalty as the defining thing of the world, instead of strength.
FISTICUFFS. STERN, AGRESSIVE, AND LOYAL, she talks like we've just shown. In that sense, her world has grown a lot: from being so mono-focused that she only needed one word to understand the world, she's decided to try and teach others, though usually in her rough manner. She's even begun dating-training fellow fighting-type Chun Li, finding their bond (built, of course, around each others' capacity for physical violence) a source of strength. Is relying on Seed for dating advice, since she is so unfamilliar with this thing we call "Love." Sometimes conflicts with Azula due to her strong independant spirit.
ChuChu is the perky, bubbly type. Very excitable, but always optimistic. Has a huge crush on Spike, and is secretly glad to no longer have Phoebe's competition most of the time -- but she still has more competition left. Still, she's managed to convince him her feelings are sincere, so she may have a shot. She evolved of her own choice, fairly eagerly in order to find new strength -- a rare trait among evolution-shy Pikachus. She's aware enough of Seed's desire to not hurt those weaker than her, so she deliberately makes sure that even when she knocks a pokemon out, there's no long-term damage.
Rya. Initially the team's baby, she's still the most innocent and child-like, even after her evolution made her into a formidable fighter. Her evolution came as the result of combined effort from the team into encouraging her growth and her own desire to be good enough to help and protect Seed. Bought at a ridiculous price. Sees Azula as a big sister figure, and most others as some sort of auxillery 'family.'
Spike. A boy *le gasp*! The only male pokemon in Seed's team. He knows it, and is generally annoyed by it. Snarky. Sees himself as "cool," while almost all other pokemon would say he is instead "hot." His evolution has been a source of doubt on his part for a while, and he's still adapting to the high natural agression of Nidokings, which he lacked as a Nidorino, he's also learned to turn his attractiveness into a weapon against the female-dominated regime. Is trying to give ChuChu a chance, now that he sees she doesn't just like him due to not having many options. Seed's willing to trust him, and her trust and ChuChu's help keep him grounded. He sometimes conflicts with both Terra (who loves to tease him, and whose company he generally enjoys as a challenge), and Azula, who he sees as unfairly holding the title of 'alpha teammate.' Rarely conflicts with FISTICUFFS over who's tougher. Has promised to defeat the Winged Storm, the bird of electricity.
Terra. Clever, thoughtful, and a little twisted. She sees a certain amount of futility in the quest, but also wants -- or needs -- to go along with it. Still somewhat sleepy. At one point in time, she knew Bill when he was young, and had strong, but currently uncertain, feelings for him. She's abandoned those, though. It's hard to say how much of what she says is a joke, and how much sincere -- she enjoys teasing Spike, likely due to having feelings for him, but taking that as a single explanation is too simple. She has a depth of knowledge about the moemon world, but it's primarily theological, mystical, and philosophical -- and thus cannot be entirely trusted to be factual, or even Terra's real opinion.
Pokemon in Reserve
Spoiler
Helga The first pokemon moved into the reserves, by her choice. Kind of fiesty. Knows she's a little bit useless -- but screw that! Even if it's meaningless, she'll fight with all her heart! She's taken that peppy determination into a relationship with fellow-reserver Leafe.
Lila. The first pokemon Seed caught on her journey. Gentle and shy, her evolutions have given her some confidence. She's very excited to be working for Seed again, now in the capacity of 'official pokemon catcher'.
TopPercent. Finally re-named, as was promised long ago. Fiesty and energetic, she wants to push herself to be the best of the best -- nothing else will do.
Mellow. Once upon a time, she was largely controlled by the evil, parasitic mushroom that sits on her head. Now, to her confusion and surprise, she's freed to her own will by Seed. The mushroom is still alive and around, but less dominated, and furious at Seed. The Mushroom talks LiKe ThIs." Currently serving as an HM slave for Cut and Flash.
Phoebe. Kinda non-descript. Has a nice singing voice, and enjoys it intensely. Has a crush on Spike, but who doesn't? She wants to find what it is that will make her noticed and special, ignoring the talent for song that's right in front of her. Serving as an 'Official Flyer.'
Eve. A little snobby, she seems to think she's too good for this whole process... but she's working on it, building an evolution out of the realization that she has to act good to be good. She loves dancing, but was mocked for it by other pokemon earlier in her life, and thus became much colder as a result. She's starting to warm up to Seed.
Belle? Who is she? Why does she ask so many incessant questions, as if she were incapable of shutting up? Should we blame the readers for suggesting this idea? She seems to have a good heart, though, and her evolutions are giving her some control over her mouth. She's finally decided to start searching for -- and supplying -- her own answers, starting with her evolution.
Leafe. Having been frequently bullied by wild pokemon, Leafe finds Seed's ownership a relative position of security. Once pessamistic and uncertain, Helga's example has made her push through and start again as a Vileplume. The two have been... Umm... Well, it's not exactly clear, but they're in some manner of relationship, probably dating.
Jasmine. A thief Seed caught when she was trying to steal Seed's stuff. She promised to work for Seed (without stealing, she says). She's less untrustworthy than she seems. Her original desire to be the world's best thief -- one that she considers impossible, but something that doesn't need to be achieved, only strived for -- has led her to try new techniques in stealing... Which, so far, have yet to pan out.
Erika. Totally not an expy -- certainly not. Attracted to Terra...'s dreams, but doesn't care about really anything else. Sees herself as very intelligent and people as puzzles to be destroyed by reason. Needs dreams because she is incapable of producing any. Is annoyed that Seed breaks type. Has gone even crazier due to something she saw in Terra's dreams that completely broke her understanding of Terra, herself, and the world... Something very simple, that she cannot accept.
Toph. A shy young Dugtrio, afraid of getting caught in the light of day. Is somewhat photosensitive. A hard worker. She intially saw loving fighting and being shy as mutually exclusive, but now she's decided: she's going to kick ass! As long as you don't talk loudly, or look at her, or make her give a speech while doing so.
Tanith Really wanted to be captured by Seed, and has been following her from very early on. Why? Certainly something having to do with being the best, but what does that mean? Maybe she's jealous of Phoebe, but that doesn't seem to be all. Her motives are mysterious...and a little bizzare.
Marumari. Loves round things, like pokeballs; presumably, she is a voltorb because of that love... or the other way around. Is easily entranced and distracted. She has decided that rather than merely hoard her precious round objects, she will erect a museum, as a testimate to their love! ... It's unclear exactly how she'd do that, but shh.
Jewel, GENTLEWOMAN AVENTURER and spelunker. Loves caves, claiming to have a deep and meaningful relationship with them. Is tagging along with Seed for protection on her travels... Even when Seed leaves her behind sometimes. Has a story for every scenario.
Deceased
Sandra. A former "nice girl" who wanted to make sure Seed was following the rules, she's now trying to follow her heart by fighting the hardest she can. Her initial reaction was to become agressive socially and physically, but it seems the rest of the team saw through that... What does it mean to follow her heart? It's a mystery.
Pixie. Loves beauty. No, "loves" is the wrong word. She is devoted to it as a woman to her most sacred goddess. She sees it as essential to life and happiness, and thus the cultivation of power and beauty is the most important thing to her. She is very distractable, and prone to getting caught up in shiny things, like coins or mirrors... or Nuriko.
Ala. A refined young lady with a hard-to-read font. She sees the world of pokemon battling as a form of sport: one that she has decided she must improve at, since self-improvement is the goal, and one should never stop refining one's self. Delicate and dainty, she loves tea and makes excellent teacakes and other small sweets. How she is able to do this is unknown. She is very persuasive, and generally friendly to all living things. She's not entirely sure why, of all the dragonaires in the world, why she was lucky enough to end up with Seed: what makes her worthy? Why wasn't she left at the game corner? How does fate work? Seed seems particularly fond of her.
Aquamarine. Another refined lady -- this one was abandoned in a pokeball in a room for an unknown length of time. She is very taciturn, and speaks slowly and without emotion. She seems to have trouble expressing her feelings. She knows her original master will never come back for her, and that even though the world outside her room is scary, it is a warmer place outside. Is it warm enough to melt her frozen heart? That isn't clear yet. She likes stargazing and water, the delights of the ocean making her like a child again... A strange, quiet child.
Angel (originally used this font color.) Originally Beau's Raticate, she was killed by a strange opponent... Unusualy in that Beau isn't on a Nuzlocke challenge, so this guy was clearly something spooky. Is lingering as a Gastly to get the opportunity to see her beloved Master Beau again -- she's very vibrant and energetic, but somewhat childish. She makes a lot of comparisons between Seed and Beau, but admits they both have worth as masters.
Stephanie. A narcoleptic chef. She likes to try and gather new ingredients, but found this difficult to do without a trainer... So now she's going on a flavorful adventure with Seed.
Nuriko. Cosplay fanatic and cross-dresser extraordinare. Flirty and high-spirited, he's not at all afraid of getting physical with anyone at the slightest provocation -- some of it's teasing, and a lot of it's sincere. He's very touchy-feely, and prone to affectionate nicknames. Secretly a romantic, he shares his love of beauty with everyone... But especially Pixie.
Dusk. An aspiring, but not terribly skilled, Ninja. Admired Koga a lot, and was very dissapointed by his being a jerk. She's resolved to be a better ninja, to be the ninja she thought Koga was.
Maria. A protective mother and sister -- she's travelling with Seed to help repay her for helping Maria's sister when she was in trouble. She has a tendencies towards pet names -- "Hun" and "Sugah/Sugar" are the most common. True to her nature, she extends her motherly behavior to everyone she knows.
Eda. A Scyther at the end of her days -- or nearly so. When she was young, she was at the top of the pack... But age is sinking her down. She's not willing to admit weakness, but at the same time, she has a hard time admitting that there's a future after her lost strength. She sees strength as everything... Which is why she's here, after Azula told her that she was mistaken. What can make a person believe that? That's what Eda wants to see. The added strength of training helps, too. She's beginning to see that there's something to Seed's philosophy, but she can't seem to do it yet, freezing her evolutionary path.
Evangeline. A dodrio who once found all her solace in imaginary friends... Friends who eventually told her it was time to move on to real friends, like Seed. Has a propensity for cute french names. Is sweet but ditsty, and is still very unsure of herself.
Chun Li. She's a serious and reserved fighting type, favoring grace and beauty over brute strength. She's an extremely formal pokemon, and a little awkward in non-formal settings. She's also FISTICUFFS' student-girlfriend.
Ruto. A former Silphco lab experiment, given to Seed in the hopes that the Lapras would enjoy the outside world. Ruto does not seem to understand this whole 'things that aren't lab experiments conducted on her' concept, and is absolutely sure that Seed will eventually just burst out the electrodes. Any time now. One of these days.
Medusa. At once a grave, haughty warrior and a small child, Medusa grew up at the biggest fish in her small stretch of ocean... But wants to leap out into a larger pond still, even if it'll be trouble for her.
Aphrodite. A major cynic: She probably didn't want to be captured, but due to literal advice and some confusion, we're not sure yet. A mysterious pokemon.
Trilo. A strange, formerly-dormant pokemon, from a species that went extinct. She speaks in a strange, pseudo-middle English style. She feels indebted to Seed for freeing her, and will probably have fun exploring the modern world.
Chelle A former would-be world conquerer, sealed in a can. She apparently wanted to stop pokemon from being opressed by humans. It didn't work out, obviously. Now she's biding her time, laying low...And causing as much trouble as Seed would let her.
Draca. A knight of yore, chasing down Chelle across time and space. She... doesn't know that Seed also takes care of Chelle, at the moment. I expect fireworks.
Missle! IT'S MISSLE! *bark*. She's very hyper and eager to please. A former member of a sect devoted to returning Pokemon Mansion to the pokemon, she was low-ranked. She's trying to spread the information, but trips over herself in her eagerness. Barks a lot.
Twilight. Originally captured because Rya wanted a pony to be friends with, Rya ended up forgetting to ask her to be friends. She joined up because she wants to learn more about humans with Seed's power. She's a bit of a socially-awkward nerd.
Maggie (Originally This font). A fiesty, fiery pokemon who wanted to be a rival to Seed and her crew, but neglected the fact that the next match would never come, since she agreed to be caught by whomever beat her. She still wants to prove herself the strongest.
Kai. Another boy. He's calm and relaxed, cool and loose as the water he loves and commands. He's amused enough to be on this journey, largely to cool down Seed and Spike. He was part of the main team briefly, and became Spike's bro and confidante.
Daisy Not a good psychic at all, probably due to her alarming coherency, lack of derp and lack of headache, from which psyduck derive their psychic powers. She's mildly aware of this, but gives it the old try. She loves hats.
Derpy Mysterious. She appears to be some sort of genius inventor, but the combination of her slow speed and an overflow of inspiration and other ideas leaves her so wracked with ideas that she's often unable to function. Many pokemon don't need trainers -- but Derpy needs someone to help keep her together, since her ideas will tear her apart.
Rosy To an ordinary human, she is a single part of an Exeggcute -- a solitary egg, without its fellows. This is due to some fault in her abilities (according to her), which she is currently unable to overcome. As a result, she's sort of an outcast among her fellow Forest pokemon, and has decided to come with Seed to become stronger. Her self-esteem, though, remains critically low.
Sapphire. She's not good with people -- no, she's an authentic agoraphobe. She's also afraid of things like light and open space. And not being in her safe and comfy cave. Unfortunately, other pokemon on her home beach wanted to use the cave, and booted her out and into Seed's care. It's not her cave, but a quiet, dark pokeball in a quiet, dark section of the box... Is also acceptable.
Pearl A clingy, bubbly Krabby. She claimed both Spike and Kai as her husbands, and Seed as her trainer -- and there's no way any of them have been able to correct her! But she's tenatious, so don't think she'll ever give up her claims!
Faraday An ambitious social climber. While she was originally a member of Zapdos' security and retinue, she knew in her heart that that was no way to get what she wants -- a posse! Fame! Maybe some money! ANything else lacks ambition! She's extremely opportunistic, and she'll always pick the side she thinks will win. No questions asked.
Articuno One of the three legendary birds of Kanto, Articuno is physically taller than most moemon -- in fact, all three of the birds are taller than Seed. It used to be said that she was a creature without love, and certainly she was the cruelest and most caculating of the three birds. She's softened up considerably since meeting Seed, learning the value of caring about other somewhat... And is now the mother of Loituma. She's unsure of how to handle this, but she's determined to do her best.
Zapdos The most duty-bound of the three birds, she's somewhat arrogant and condescending in a fight... But she's determined to come through for her sisters. The three of them are in some ways one, with their lives unable to be extinguished as long as one of them lives -- that's why Zapdos, at the last minute, allowed Seed to catch them. She's softened up somewhat, and accepted Seed as her trainer.
Moltres The fiercest in battle of the three birds, she's agressive and war-loving. All three of them are slightly distant from the world and standoffish, just by their nature -- they're high above the world, and to be brought down is confusing and humbling. Azula has a natural respect for Moltres. They've all softened a bit since working for Seed, and want to help Articuno with Loituma
Ayla Ayla always wanted to be a hero. Ayla always wanted to be the best. Like her Hero, Jewel, gentewoman adventurer. She lived in stories of pokemon travelling and having adventures. And then she saw Jewel die, with a trainer behind her. She swore vengence...but then was quickly talked into working for Seed, because Seed was so nice about the whole thing! She's fiesty and easily riled, with a lot of mis-placed passion and anger. She wants to be a hero and adventurer still, and reminds Seed very much of herself in some ways
Lugia. Cooler and more mellow than most of the other legendaries. He calls it the result of his lifestyle -- of living at the bottom of the sea, where life has such a hard time, but still lives so hard. He loves the bright red flower in the world without light, to make a reference. Rational, capable, and intelligent... And it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't like being mysterious when he can. He cares deeply for his sister/twin/opposite.
Ho-Oh. Not to be confused with hydrogen peroxide or delicious snack cakes made by Hostess. Just so we're clear. Ho-Oh is very emotional and deeply protective of her brother. At the right times, she's passionate and fun-loving. At the wrong times, she's hysterical and prone to jumping to conclusions. She's easily manipulated by others. She loves her freedom and hates being bossed around.
Loituma The newly-hatched child of Nuriko and Articuno. She's not yet had time to reveal a stable personality, but she clearly loves her mother. She enjoys spinning her leek and singing.
Shelly A newly-hatched pokemon. She's very eager to help and please, but seems confused on some basic facts... Like that Seed, as a human, cannot be her momma. Has good intuition about the solutions to problems.
Deoxys Confident, some would say arrogant, and cool as a cucumber. She dislikes being mind-controlled, but is only somewhat uneasy with mind-controlling others. She's the sort of person who doesn't listen to objections, as long as she gets what she wants. Kind of joined against Seed's will.

Well, yeah...I do say that it's from when were in Celadon...It's not there for accuracy reasons, after all. It's there for being a bit of fan-work.
As for a new chart... Eh, maybe I'll get to it over Summer Break, when I have time. I don't really know how necessary it actually would be.Last edited by Deme; 2011-04-21 at 07:22 PM.

Re: More Moe Is Needed: Let's Play Moemon: LeafGreen, Thread II
Slight delays in the chapter...I have Spring break work, and today I ended up putting the chapter off until after dinner so I could do homework, but dinner ran late...and now I'm too tired for tonight. Just a head's up.

For some reason, I'm now thinking of how awesome it would be if Dust and Deme collaborated on something.
Anyway, you have to watch Gurren Lagann. I thought I'd seen plenty of references to it in this LP, but that may just be my imagination. Don't watch it all at once though, there might be a bit too much awesome there for one sitting.Awesome Iron Chef avatars by Neoseph7! Murkrow avatar of coolness by Introbulus!Spoiler

Re: More Moe Is Needed: Let's Play Moemon: LeafGreen, Thread II
I just finished catching up to this LP. I'm so glad I did. I love the personalities you've given each of the characters, and the way you keep a balance between the humor and the darker/more dramatic parts of the story. You're a very good writer, you know that? You should know that.
Also- while I was reading, I noticed that a few of the links in the first post were to the wrong chapters. That was in the other thread, so you might have that fixed now, but I figure I should just let you know.

I will triple-check, then. Thank you very much ^^
Also, fun, if gloomy, fact: at level 36, Poliwrath Kai has a better special attack than level 46 Rya.Last edited by Deme; 2011-04-23 at 10:35 AM.

It does. Rya's Adamant, he's Quiet. Rya, put simply, has a pretty low Sp.Atk. There are times when she's outclassed by FISTICUFFS, though probably not at present.

Re: More Moe Is Needed: Let's Play Moemon: LeafGreen, Thread II
Chapter 61: A Berry Good Day
Spoiler
We take a little break before going in, though, for lunch and a swim/surf... And then I hear Rya yelp.
"What happened?"
"Something stung me..."
"...Like a Tentacool, or an actual, factual jellyfish?"
"...I don't know, but it stings..."
"Well, let's get you to a pokemon center..."
"Hello. This is kind of embarrassing...But my Gyrados got stung by a jellyfish."
Nurse: "I'm sorry, but the pokemon center can only handle damage caused by other pokemon."
"What?"
"They probably don't realize it, but their machines utilize a type of magic, simmilar to a recover spell. It's fascinating."
"WHAT. WHAT SORT OF LOUSY CENTER IS --"
Nurse: "I'm sorry, but you'll have to wait for your pokemon to recover normally."
"...Hm. Are you still up to fighting, Rya?"
"...It really hurts... Can I take some time off? Oh, I know: I could write that letter to my momma, too!"
"...Well..."
Shoot, what am I going to do without Rya?
"...Ok. You rest up, OK, Rya?"
I'd like to add that it's a little unfair that I have the only killing machine in the world that gets sidelined by a jellyfish. Not a jellyfish pokemon. Just a mindless sack of venom.
"...Get well soon."
I think about my options while Azula frets. Then I make up my mind and get Kai out -- he's underleveled, but I'll give him a shot, and maybe Rya'll be better by the time I'm done training him.
"Hey, new guy. I've need of your skills."
"Happy to serve."
"Oh...This guy. Will he do?"
"Kinda stuck-up, isn't she? Haa."
"YOU HAVE NO IDEA."
"Anyway... You're kind of filling in for our usual water-type, so do your best! You have a lot of catching up to do."
"Don't worry. He joined up 'cause of me, so I'll take him under my wing."
"This'll be entertaining. I remember your lessons."
"What's that supposed to mean? I worked you into a fighting force, didn't I?"
"True enough..."
"Hi, I'm ChuChu."
"Heya. Kai."
"Anyway, first thing first. You need a better water-type attack."
"If you say so...I'm not really a fighter."
"You better learn."
"...Azula. Hush."
Anyway, I hand him the Surf TM
"Surf's up, duuudes."
I also hand him this.
"It'll make learning from Spike easier."
"I've always tried to keep a peaceful pond...So watching fighting like this's a different sort of deal, huh?"
He learns a little bit from watching the match on the way to the bridge.
And, come to that, Spike learns a few things, too.
We eventually move to the quiet parts of the forest. There's a kind of soft, fruity smell to the air -- I guess it's the smell of the berries. You'd think you'd also smell the old rotten ones, but I guess it's too early still for that.
"Sometimes you can't hit an enemy where they're weakest. But at least then...You can avoid their strengths!"
"In other words, be flexible. Fit through the smallest cracks..."
"If that works for you, it works for you. Just hit them with everything you have!"
"Can I hit them with exactly the right amount of force?"
"If you could know for sure what would be exactly right, then sure -- but it's risk I never want to take."
"No such thing as overkill. Only 'fire' and 'reload.'"
While they work, I wander around, looking up the ground.
"Hey! there was a berry here. Heeey! I'm going berry-picking!"
"...Yeah, I guess it's break time."
We take a few sips of the bottled water I bought back on the other island.
And hunt up a berry or two.
"I'm a little surprised that none of the girls here have tried to jump me...I had...Something of a harem after me back at the pond."
"No surprise. Count yourself lucky... But you haven't really met all of the reserves, so don't count yourself free yet."
"So you have that problem, too? Well, the team seems --"
"Settled. The team's sorta...Settled."
"Well, that's no good. Variety is the spice of life."
"Those girls are a little crazy, though...But they're good. I'm happy..."
"Oh, I knew you liked us, Spike!"
Cue hug attack.
"I see...By settled, you mean 'imprinted.'...Well, good luck, man."
"And when you meet the rest properly, I wish you all the luck in the universe."
They laugh.
We eventually let Kai try and fight his own battles. Between the two of us, we begin to work out a strategy. Most of the enemies aren't too hurt by his Surf, so we have to work out an extra routine or two. He's all too happy to set up hypnosis and raindance to boost and protect...A little happier than most, actually.
It works, except for a few close misses.
"Listen, I hate to harsh your mellow about as much as you hate me to harsh it --"
"But you've got to harsh it?"
"Guys, can you keep repeating 'Harsh your mellow'? I feel like I should be more stoned if we're having this discussion."
"...Sorry, Boss."
"Woops. Mea Culpa."
"Anyway...You can't just let them wail on you! Take some initiative!"
"I'll...I'll see what I can't do. I'm not a natural fighter."
"Now that's what we're talking about!"
"...But it's not enough to be really helpful, is it?"
"Hm?"
"This is a lot more work than I expected...But I said I'd help you two out, so that's the way it is. Once a river's started flowing, it can't change its own course."
The light surrounds him in his determination...
And subsides.
"...Hm. I was hoping...It looks like this river can't change his own course just next...But...Does our lady have a rock to adjust the currents?"
I think about his choice in metaphor, and reach into my bag for a pale blue stone.
"You sure about this? Adding an extra type is...Tricky stuff."
"I think it turned out rather well for you...Or, at least, not at all boring."
"Glad to be of service to someone..."
"No...I'm fine. Let's go."
I pass him the stone, which he examines until it...melts. It melts into something that looks like molten glass, or blue water, and slides off his gloved fingers and onto the ground.
"Now. This is more like it."
He does much better against the enemies overall -- less likely to set up opportunities, and more likely to take them... If he's not a little more reckless.
“Here; I thought you’d like it better than a hyper potion.”
”I do, thanks…A good drink of water cleanses the soul…It’s the best curative ever.”
Eh, it’s maybe worth a super potion.
"Well, I vote we take a break, and try to find that Lostelle."
But first, free stuff.
There's a barrier between me and one last free thing: a barrier called 'small trees.' I go back and get Mellow.
"Thank you for calling on me, Mistress."
"No problem."
As she cuts her way through the lines of plants, the Mushroom starts talking.
"YoU kNoW...I tHiNk We CaN gEt AlOnG, fOr HeR sAkE. A cErTaIn HoSt Is A gOoD hOsT. So LeT's PlAy NiCe."
"YoU mOnStEr." "You Monster."
We blinked, caught off guard by the simultaniousness.
"...Fine."
"So we'll all get along...That's good. I feel a little bad, since The Other Mellow didn't get a chance to have the full deal..."
"...We'll talk about it later."
Yaaay! Free Stuff!
Anyway, onto this whole Lostelle buisness. I suppose she's been lost in the woods long enough...But...When Sage and I were kids, we'd get 'lost' in the woods all the time, without even noticing until someone worried came to find us. That's why I'm not more worried. She's probably found a pretty little place, and is collecting flowers...
...Those were the days...
Also, that is a bizarrely specific sign.
I eventually find her.
"Sweetie, are you OK? Did something hurt you?"
I drop down on my knees and pat her head.
She points behind her.
"Don't worry. It's ok."
I offer her a hug, which she accepts with a sniffle.
"Azula and I'll take care of it."
Azula can basically take down anything, after all.
...A hypno?
"Azula, for this little girl's peace of mind... FIRE BLAST!"
In a single hit, we drive all the nightmares away.
"Think nothing, little lady. Sorry for arriving so late."
Awww....
Free stuff, how cute…
"I'm Seed."
"Of course. Your daddy sent me to come look for you."
She takes my hand and I take her home. It's...very quiet. No one says anything, except for a few comments Lostelle makes. I can't think of what to say. I just want this to never stop. I want the past to have never happened.
Aww, shucks...
"Any time, little lady."
I finally remember what we're doing.
"Bill told me."
...Thanks?
Free stuff!
...I'm kind of out of human friends with pokemon. Drat. Well, friends that aren’t rivals.
Before I go back to the first island and the mainland, I decide that I should go and catch some pokemon from the bridge and forest.
I'm stopped, however, by a very slow cry.
"...Stop...Miss..."
"Yeah?"
"...Do you have...A pokemon....That causes sleep?"
"Can't you sleep on your own? You're a slowpoke..."
"Too many....Too many ideas... Can't sleep..."
"Ideas for what?"
"...Inventions...Dreams...A Machine...To make you sleep...For one...But...I can't build it..."
"...Well, I think I can help."
I had brought Lila, after all.
"I'd be glad to help. Sleep Powder!"
"...*yawn*...Yes...It works...*yawn* I'll serve you....From gratitude..."
For some reason, the desire to call her Derpy fills my soul.
Anyway, we eventually get back to the forest, where I was planning to go.
And then I hear another sniffling sound from the bushes, and look down beneath the plants.
"Is something the matter?"
"*sniff**sniff* Go away, human...Don't waste your time..."
"It's my time, I'll decide what's a waste...What's the matter?"
"T-they all are saying...That I'm a bad egg..."
Pretty stern words, when you're an Exeggcute, I suppose.
"Oh, come on...How bad an egg can you be?"
"...I can't even make humans believe that there are lots of me. You don't believe it, do you?"
I remember the archetypical image of a whole line of eggs, with different expressions.
"I'm different...But...You guys willingly look like a whole bundle of eggs?"
"Yeah...Except I'm no good. I can't make my raiment convincing enough..."
She sniffles.
"Would being stronger help?"
"...Maybe. Why?"
"Come with me, and you'll get stronger. How's that sound?"
"...Ok. Well...It can't make things any worse, right?"
"Exactly!"
"I'm...I'm Rosy."
"Nice to meet you, Rosy."
And with that, I've caught all the pokemon I want to in this neck of the woods. Time to head back to One Island.
But then I noticed that the water around the dock of One Island is actually swimmable -- it's something I certainly hadn't noticed it before.
"Aaaahhh...This is the life..."
"I hear ya, sister..."
I am not surprised.
We eventually reach the end of the line, a small beach.
Itemfinder, I choose you!
I love this place and never want to leave.
The grass holds a wild pokemon, a tangela. The water has krabbies, but let's be serious here. I’m not going to be catching crabs on a beach where there are better things to do.
You can still vote if you disagree with the obvious choice, and give name suggestions, and so on.Last edited by Deme; 2011-04-24 at 12:09 PM.
