Vaeron absent-mindedly pets the adorable artificial kitten while he reads the note aloud to the others. Then, at the sight of the map, his eyes light up.
"Treasure! Treasure! Ok, we have a choice to make. Do we want to go and investigate this bandit camp before we bother the goblins?"
Nera frowned, not bothering to look at the corpses of the men he dispatched easily.
"This message is...curious," he said. "And what the scarred man said was even stranger. Fooling us? Perhaps there are some there that can tell us what he meant more precisely. It might be worth the side trip, especially if that was the best they could send."

Vaeron gives a little grunt of frustration, still a little distracted by the bracelet. He turns to Warryn.
"Any idea what this is?" he asks, tossing the bracelet to the gnome. He then stands up, holding the little kitten in one hand while it purrs happily, and turns to Nera. "I agree - a few bandits are hardly going to cause us any issues. We might not even have to fight them. We should find out what they know."
Warryn takes the bracelet and concentrates on it as his companions discuss the pending trip to "visit" the bandits.

Arcana: (1d20+17)[27]
Absently, Warryn says, "This does not bode well for us one way or another. Ashenstep is very clearly involved in something entirely unbecoming of one in his position."
He thinks for a moment before continuing, "J, my good man, I presume that your delivery to the goblins is currently a high priority. I think that we may want to continue with this delivery first. The bandits are a given problem, however the goblins might still be useful to us. How do you feel about this?"
You find out that it is a bracelet of storage. You can store one item(up to 10lb) in it. If it is a weapon, when it comes out it will be unsheathed. If it is a shield it will come ready in your hand. Storing an item is a standard action, removing it is a free action.
Warryn feels that there is another bracelet to go with this one. He knows without a doubt that it is a paired set.
When Warryn asks J a question, J doesn't respond. This is because he was shot in the head with an arrow at the beginning of the attack so that the cart would stop. J is dead. But the horses that are hitched to the cart look fine. And the wine looks fine too.
Vaeron glances around when J doesn't reply to Warryn's question, having completely forgotten that the poor man was shot.
"Oh man, that's a buzzkill." He sighs. "Well, look, if we go into the goblin camp and end up having to fight them, we might find out at the bandit camp that we shouldn't have. My personal opinion is that we should find out as much as we can about what's going on here before we risk a confrontation with the goblins."
Warryn's face clearly reflects that he doubts anything will go wrong as he says, "Either way, we should get a move on. If you all decide to brave the bandits first, I'll not desert you. It is a shame that we do not time to give our elven friend a proper burial."
"Let's go to the bandits, then, if we have a majority," the monk said, turning away from the corpses, not bothering to even look at them as he simply readjusted his clothes.

You arrive at the bandits camp in shadows. It appears to be completely deserted with the entrance to the camp being on the ground. It is a large log door that is about 7 yards high and 8 yards across. There is evidence of a giant having been here recently, what will you do?
((Sorry guys, I must have forgotten myself.))
Warryn sizes up the situation and turns to the group. "Nera, I think you should do a quick sweep of the area. Try to keep to the shadows; we have no clue what may be lurking around.
Can anyone see anything from here?"
Spoiler
Perception to spot anything particularly important (from where we currently sit). (1d20+6)[26]
Nature to try to figure out more precisely when the giant might have been here, whether it was actually a giant, what might have happened to the bandits. (1d20+11)[14]

The is blood literally everywhere, and the body of a giant and bandits are inside. You can only see one thing that might be important, a katana stuck in a pole. The pole itself is over 50 feet tall and the Katana is at the top. The sheath for the Katana is on the ground beside the pole, as is two circle weights on rope.
Nera nodded, and went around the camp, making sure to walk among the shadows as suggested, looking for things that were out of place. He would stop at any sign of danger, however.
Spoiler
Let's see. I guess it's Stealth to walk around in the shadows... (1d20+9)[25]
...and Perception to notice things that aren't supposed to be there. (1d20+12)[31]

You again notice a tall poll that is high above the camp that has a Katana lodged at the top. There's bandit bodies everywhere and the large body of a giant. There's also blood everywhere. There's a sheath for a Katana on the ground next to the pole. There's a large building labeled: 'INN' that is completely demolished.
The way to the secret loot vault will be hard to decipher now.
The map is:
Go ten paces into camp.
Go inside the INN.
Go into the cellar.
Say the password: 'Super Strawberry Funtime'.
"There is not a single living soul left, and the Inn is destroyed," he said. "I have found nothing obvious besides. That katana sure is curious, however. Perhaps I could try to retrieve it?"

"How on earth are you going to reach it?" Vaeron asked perplexed. "It's 50 feet up! However, it's fairly obvious someone beat us here... I wonder what happened. Let's look inside?"
The INN is a husk of what it once was. Made of pure oak, it must have been ruined by the giant. You could probably pick your way through the wood and even move the wood.
"This is how I'll get it." Peren the walks over to the pole, and begins to hack at it with his sword. His goal is to make the pole fall so he can inspect the Katana.
"This is not a matter brute force can solve," the monk said, before he jumped on the pole, graspe it with both of his hands and began to climb, his eyes fixed on his goal.
Spoiler
What kind of roll would that be?

"The blade was rusty and damaged when it was stuck in the pole," he commented, "but now it looks new, and I can feel the magical power inside. If anyone is versed in the arts of the occult here, he would do well to examine this."

Having watched Nera's impressive display of athletic ability, Warryn steps forward, working out a crick in his neck and loosening up as if he were about to do something equally athletic. It might be sad were it not funny.
"I think I can figure this thing out. Let's see what we have here..."
Taking the katana, Warryn turns it over in his hands, even swinging it about a couple of times as he studies the markings and searches for any identifying marks or auras.
Oblivious to the arcane tinkering going on outside, Vaeron begins to pick his way through the remains of the Inn, searching for what might once have been the entrance to the cellar.

Perception: [roll0]
Yay! Nat 20!
He will find a round trapdoor with a couple of beams of wood on top that could be moved. He can barely hear whispering from underneath the trapdoor.
Warryn will find no markings on the blade but can feel a vast amount of power in the blade, but that's about it. The katana's sheath is still by the pole, it appears to have writing on one side, further examination could prove useful.
Vaeron is about to try to move the beams of wood off the trapdoor when he hears the whispering. Not knowing whether the voices belong to friend or foe, he goes back outside.
"Guys, we've got a situation in the Inn. I found the way down into the cellar, but there are people whispering down there. Who wants to come help me move the beams?"
