They're okay. Singer's not my cuppa tea, but he (I think) has an okay voice. Kudos for the harmonies in the chorus, that was pretty cool. The song itself, though, was pretty painfully cheesy... 6/10
I'm not a huge metal head, but I like Townsend, and I really like that track. The problem for me is the stupid brick wall limiting people have been using on their recording that last decade or so. That song would have been awesome had it not all been the same volume. I'd probably like it live, or even a live recording much better.
The link wouldn't play on my ipod, but I found the song on Youtube and I must say I really enjoyed it, assuming it's the version you intended. I like the slow, melodic feel. It'd be great background music to... Anything. 8.5/10.

@V Yeah, this song and the whole Mesmerize/Hypnotize double album are not really superb. I find that the self titled album and Toxicity contains their best stuff, and everything afterward is just lesser in comparison. But how do you beat songs like Spiders, Sugar, Atwa, Chop Suey!, Aerials, Toxicity, Prison Song, Needles, Deer Dance...

you've got your own space
in time
your precious gift falls in
the first light
just need to know you
exist
someone to blame
for the wreck
one step away from you
closer the further I go
buried to keep you
safe
blinded to see
the day
love blooms into
a flower
opens till it catches
fire
one step away from you
closer the further I go
falling into your star
touching your face
torn
apart
oh, my love
your essence fades in to memory
trailing in flames
all beauty is gone
gone
gone
gone
you build your tower
as everyone is pushing for the high ground
lost all control
over your fate short of you killing yourself
(defiant of all else)
against the glass
waiting for the waves to come in
poor love
opens
takes all it can
poor love
it's all for nothing
you've got your own space
in time
you've got your own space
in time
ones
zeroes
I don't
feel a thing
one step away from you
I'm going to give that song a 6/10 because I know some people like that song. I just don't like how the lyrics use african metaphors confusingly to try to be romantic, and I really hate the chords at the end of the chorus, they build tension instead of releasing it before the drop in volume and instrumentation (Yes, i am a music major)

I like Sonata Arctica, overall. Sometimes, they're a little too on the hammy side of power metal in my opinion, but the music is never bad; sometimes, it's just a tad cheesy, while still being competent and good in a technical sense. This song isn't one of my favorites, but it's good.
That's a 7. I like that song a lot, but this cover doesn't impress me. The singing isn't in tune, and they could have been much more musical with their dynamics and timbre.
