VV: The original was done by "Richard" Dale (it won't let me put his actual name). It was featured in the film Pulp Fiction.

Nice song. I can't imagine the kind of skill it takes to play that. And it sounded really fast. As for the music, I think I've heard it before but I don't know the source. I blame my faulty terrible memory. But yeah, it had a nice ring to it. 8/10
I really liked it. The brass was excellently done, with some very cool mute effects. The vocalist, while not amazing in a technical sense, fit the vibe of the song perfectly. And the female backing vocalist added an interesting melody to the chorus. My only quibble would be with the rhythm, which got a little simplistic at times. 9/10.
Now for something a bit...crazier. Liquid Tension Experiment's Paradigm Shift.

Indeed... Crazy. 6/10 I don't really like it that much.
Dio che nel'alma infondere, from Verdi's Don Carlo. You have to wait a bit to get to the duet, but it itself is beautiful.

The song is happy and nice to listen to. There's something "wrong" about it that I can't place, though. It's like the Uncanny Valley of happy music. I'd give it 7/10.
Nice simple song. She has a very pretty voice. The lyrics and the actual music weren't that great though, the lyrics weren't particularly memorable to me and the music was a tad bit repetitive. Thanks for linking it anyway, I liked it. 7/10
The vocals are monotonous, and there's like, words on the edge of hearing a lot and that bugs me. Plus I can't get behind a song that seems to bemoan civilization as a whole. It's okay background music though. 4/10
Spiderweb by Joan Osborne (and incorrect lyrics because I can't find a better version).
@V. That was the version of the song I was avoiding; mine had drums and back-up singers and stuff.

Your link didn't work for me, so I had to look it up. It was pretty good. Her voice, although it wasn't exactly my thing, was solid. The keyboardist was skilled, but his harmonies were not. Also, the stick or whatever it was that she kept slapping against the mic stand irritated me a little. It was quite catchy, though. 7/10.
This next song will be Metropolis by Dream Theater.

See, it's different from the music I usually listen to - I typically like songs with energy and beat that engage me, capture my attention, and get me awake. But when I changed gears, just sat quietly for a while and closed my eyes while I listened, it was soothingly beautiful. I give it 9/10.
Very few songs can feel happy and epic at the same time, but this came close. The recorder/flute melody was wonderfully catchy and bouncy, while the electric guitar leads sprinkled in here and there were an excellent counterpoint. The brass backing was solid, coming in where it needed to in order to give the song some extra oomph. The rhythm was somewhat bland, but I'm willing to forgive it because of the other interesting things going on. Overall, 8.5/10.
Now for something a little slower. Dire Straits' Telegraph Road.

Took me a while to tackle this. Epic song, I only know the most famous Dire Straits songs but this one sounds like they hung out with Bruce Springsteen.
The song feels, like, disconnected somehow. Like I like each individual piece, but they seem only loosely correlated with one another. It's kinda strange. It's pretty soothing somehow too. It's not a bad song, just not one I'd really listen to. 5/10
7/10. The music's pretty good, as is the tune, but I'm not fond of the lyrics.
Captain O'Kane, written by a blind eighteenth century harpist.

Hmmm. A little too musical theater for my tastes (in terms of the structure of the song, more than the execution). Not BAD, just not something I personally like, so 5/10.
Ska isn't really my kind of music, but this is one nice little song. Maybe because imo it doesn't really sound like Ska, or what I think what Ska should sound like.
Oh wow! This totally takes me back. I used to have a goth roommate who listened to this band back in the 90s.
I found the song to have the same nostalgic quality for me - moody but a driving beat under it. Reminds me of driving the old roommate to work or just hanging out and taking turns popping CDs into the stereo system while creating Magic: The Gathering characters for cyberpunk adventures and the like. The song is Cult-like, which, for me, is always a good thing. 9/10.
I've never been a huge fan of (by my standards) older rock, but this song wasn't too bad. I can't help but find it a little boring, but I can respect it. 6.5/10, let's say.
Excellent. I loved the powerful, epic feel and folk instrumentation. I enjoyed the vocals, despite not understanding a word of the lyrics. Most of the instrumentalists, especially the drummer, seemed to know what they were doing, which is always a plus. My only complaint was that the horn section sounded rather poorly recorded, like they were being played by a cheap synthesizer or something. 9/10.
Really boring until the start of the guitar solo around 6:00. And this is supposed to be a classic, a masterpiece ? Well, I like late 60's and '70s classic rock a lot but this doesn't hold a candle to e.g. the best of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd or The Who.
Time to pull out the old Hawkwind records and Moorcock novels! Nice recording of this song; love the opening guitar riff. I like the way the song builds, and the solo that starts around 3 minutes is nice...strongly melodic rather than overly flashy. I like a solo you can hum. I might have mixed the drums a bit louder. And it's cheesy, but that's entirely the charm.
I'll give it an 8
(as an aside, I wouldn't have picked that Genesis track to stand alone. Like all good prog, it works best in the context of the whole album, but either way, not the best or the worst on that record)
Going egotistical for a moment; this is one of mine (forgive the stock footage montage video...it was an experiment to try to do something more than the "still album cover" to get it up on youtube, but I don't think it really worked) The Girl Who Walks The River - Ghost Estate
Ooh, this is yours? It's a very interesting fusion of vocals, Celtic(?) instrumentals... and a bit of a techno beat there for a little bit? It makes for a very nice ghostly mood, although my favorite part is the instrumentals and it feels a little empty in the parts without them. 7/10 overall.
