You ever see, or hear, or watch something so powerful, so moving that, when it was over, you couldn't even think, that your mind was silent, as still as a winters morning after a nights snow.
Thoughts quickly start treading their old patterns, that silent purity quickly evaporates.
But for a brief moment, this episode did that.
***
Ice King. . . .

You know, this is the only show on TV right know that get real emotinal responces out of me. Not like "Huh, neat" but like "Whoa, that was fantastic! Now I need to drag out all the episodes relating to that charecter arc out of my Dvr and watch them in order!"

The odd and interesting thing about this one, though, is there is no arc or related episodes. I'm pretty sure this is the first time we've ever seen Marceline and the Ice King on screen together. There wasn't a bunch of little things sprinkled about that finally make sense now. This is totally out of the blue. Doesn't make it any less awesome, though.

actually, in addition to dragon's comment about Marceline's multiple homes, there is also the stuff toy. The toy that Simon gave to Marceline is the same one that her ex-boyfriend Ash sold; it actually explains why she loved that toy... Also during the christmas episode one little tiny thing to note is how, while everyone is hanging out by the fire, Marceline for some reason is just watching from the window outside... nothing too big, but they are little things.

Actualy, remember Marceline's Closet? There was a book labled "Gunter" near her records, which only raises further questions.
Also, theres one line in song in that....ah, here it is.
Because they don't know what it's like to
Live forever....and forget who you even are and
What do you even think about anything?
Well played, Mr. Ward. Well played.

In Holly Jolly Secrets we have Ice King doing his first rendition of the Fry Song. Given that these VHS were old and well how the glob would Ice King know that song when he was nowhere near that episode...
"They weren't even good. They were realy cold."
Considering that the eatery sign was in the Ice Kings "The Past" room, who's to say that the first time Marcy sees her dad in a few years or so, he's eating the last bit of food Simon managed to scavage and freeze?

What I think I love most about Adventure Time, what sets it apart from a lot other of "wacky" and "random" shows, is it never laughs at us for caring.
Ever.

I kind of want to see a prequel series that deals more with the aftermath of the Great Mushroom War, Marceline and Simon's relationship, and how Ooo came to be. That's be awesome.

But that would spoil it.
We could probably expect a Whole Flashback episode, probably by Marceline or another oldy. Heck, Finn could simply, I dont know, ask the girl a question (like, whats the Ice Kings deal?) and the viewer gets a good look at her past.
But half her subplot is her past, so that would have to be one of the last episodes.

What I like the most about Adventure time it has very few jokes.
But it has funny thing happening.
Thats what makes them so funny. When a bunch of fish thingies say "Please take these lollypops. Its all we have" with such a level of geniuses and realism its just so funny.
Adventure time is the master of strait faced comedy. It knows that if you present things as a joke, they tend to get less funny, but if it takes it seriously we can't help but laugh.
it has a few 3 part jokes (Beginning middle and end) but most of the humor comes from the weirdness of it all.
It also may be one of the most realistic post apocalyptic scenario's on television.
After all, life goes on. If the biosphere survives to an extent, after a few thousand years or so, even after a nuclear war, things would be green again.
This is what life does, it lives.
For example, Chernobyl has become an inadvertent wildlife sanctuary.

Loved that last episode. I suddenly have an urge to watch the Holly Joly Secrets epissode, then the memories one, then this, all in a row. It's even enough to get me out of lurking mode.
One of my favorite things about this show is the idea that they are things going on with the background and characters behind the main ones (Finn and Jake). It gives the setting a lot of depth.
Never had a kids show make me want to cry before, and I work in a field where super manliness (almost to the point of the caricatures in Gravity Falls Manotaur episode) is expected.
Great pic, slayerx, hope it's ok if I use that as my desktop. background. Might get some jokes at work but I honestly couldn't imagine a better desktop pic for me.
One thing about adventure time is it is also the D&D campaign we would all love to participate in, what with the semi overblown action layered on top of intrigue in a fairly consequence free zone for your so called heroic actions

I was in the fetal position sobbing before the song even ended.

How I understand it, they make outlines of episodes and give those to storyboard teams to flesh out, so all of the dialogue is written with facial expressions and visual cues in mind, instead of scripting the dialogue first and figuring out the other stuff later, which is how most cartoons are written.

Yet, the DM keeps a list of sub-plots on hand, and has a story to tell, and everyone is surprised at and amazed at every turn.

Oh geez. The Road. That is the single most depressing movie I have ever seen. No redeeming qualities at all. Starvation, starvation, starvation, wait they found food, oh they have to leave now, starvation, leg-stapling, starvation, death, the end.
You might have already known this, but I only just found this out, so I thought I'd share.
Spoiler
Ice King previously owned the Enchiridion. My reasoning? A newspaper clipping Marceline picks up and shows only for a second. The words were covered a bit, so I might have missed a few words, but it should be 95% correct.
"With much pomp, Petrikov unveiled the most significant piece from the dig to a rapt audience. Turns out it was just a book. A ratty looking manual whose title had translated to: The Enchiridion."

Yepper, it's been mentioned before, but it's still interesting. Wonder if the Lich sees the Ice King as a threat, being the one who killed the giant bubblegum-beast as well as a potent source of information if he could just dig his greedy mind into his.

Do you mean earlier in this thread or before this episode?
I need to rewatch Adventure Time. Adventure Time was one of the few new shows I actually and genuinely liked. It's stupid and silly, but it knows that it is, and it's all the more fun because of it. And it's not stupid, either.
I've been derped on my tv access, though. However, I just recently learned this.
