What do you guys think about my idea to make arcanic magic very science based? Part of the reason I did it, a large part, is that it really bothers me when people are anti-intellectual, or believe that science is bad. I honestly cannot comprehend why people hate science, or don't want to learn. I'm smart, and I know it. I know enough to realize how much I don't know, and that just makes me want to learn even more.
So when I was working on Aequar and I realized how easily I could make arcanic magic scientific in nature, a part of the universe that could be studied (even if at this point it's a bit too wild to be reliably controlled and fine-tuned) with research and labs and a consistent scientific method and make it something like this, I jumped at the opportunity.

I mean, I'm usually more for magic being magic and beyond any ordered intellectual approach in my fiction, but having it be a scientifically explorable element of existence is always quite interesting when done right. So yeah, very much thirded here.
But what implications does that have for spontaneous arcane casters? Sorcerers = X-Men?

Reason: Words!
If we're picking actors, may as well be live action.
Milla Jovovich for Radic!
Alan Rickman and Patrick Stewart! Dunno who as, but they're too awesome not to be in it. :P
The orc and the halfling!

Fourth-ed on the part about making arcane magic scientific. I think I might have seen that idea somewhere else...but since I can't remember from where, it's obviously not one of the stock tropes for this genre. Either way, I've seen a lot of works where magic is considered too vague and belief-based to be studied scientifically. It's nice to read something fresh like this.
I also think your "Detect Evil = Detect my Deity's Enemies" idea is interesting. Just make sure to include it in the comic so all the people who don't follow the thread posts will learn about it.

Best way to do that without 4th-wall-breaking (since there is no Detect Evil) would be to rename it Detect Deity's Foes (or similar).
For example:
Detect Foes of Astrid.
EDIT: Or have a divine caster explain to an arcane caster or noncaster that the spell "Detect Evil" is based on the point of view of a deity, not an objective "Evil". Make it part of a philosophical discussion, either in the background or off-panel besides those lines.
Jackie Chan is 57. Someone more age-appropriate, please. Neil Patrick Harris with a dye job. Matt carries a lot of the comic relief, and Harris is used to playing comedic roles.

Neil Patrick Harris is almost 40 now! I always reckoned Matt to be one of the youngest characters, like in his late teens. For age reference, that makes Justin Beiber about the right age...

Your not my real dad. I read "antsy" as "angsty". Also, can you compress the history of the world so I dont have to keep track of all these little hints you give us? Thanks.

I'm guessing that the spell/machine thing that Serrin is working on is a way to make the Fly spell stronger. I don't know much about DnD, but thanks to OotS, I know that Fly suffered a major downgrade between 3e and 3.5e. That would explain why it's a stronger spell in all the "stories", before the universe converted to 3.5e.
