I'm at a loss of words. It seems that I've wasted the good farewell on Plans alone, when it should really have gone not only to the both of you, but to A:VB itself as well. Still, everything I said to him is just as true for you, Rizban, and I treasure my time as your player. You've done so much for me, and likely for most others as well. I can honestly say that I feel my time under your DMing has made me into a better player, and certainly into a better DM for my own players. Thank you for everything, Riz.
As for the A:VB name, I feel that it's yours to do with as you please (though other are certainly allowed to form their own opinions on the matter). With the both of you leaving, it seems probable that the intermingling of the solo games would soon fall apart, and that the game would lose its creative focus, only to dissolve into a sad mockery of what it was with the two of you aboard. It's best to let the game die a natural death, and not to prolong it any longer tan necessary. That said, I urge all DMs to continue their games, if they're able (especially my own ); they'll come to their own end, in their own time. When the last falls, the Age of Aldhaven will be no more. All good things must come to an end, and this is the beginning of that end.
Thank you both so much for your time and effort. Thank all of you, all of the DMs, senior and junior. Though I didn't play with most of you, really don't know you very well at all, I'm always going to be grateful for all that you've done for this game, and for allowing me to be a part of it.
I'm hardly an expert, but if you ever need anything, feel free to PM me. Build advice, homebrew advice,
elaboration of a post I made, explanation of/for my homebrew, my Social Security number, or a friendly ear.
I'd just like to say a bit, as it seems this game is coming to an end, as a long-time lurker of AvB and then A:VB:
I have never played D&D. Never touched a rulebook, or even any dice other than a d6. I got on these forums, and remain on them for both OotS and a different game I play.
But I followed this game, even when I didn't understand almost any of the crunch of what was going on. I subscribed to most of the AvB (and then A:VB) threads I could find, getting fascinated by each character in turn. Though time restraints eventually meant that I started to skim through some threads, I still made an effort to pay attention to what was going on in Aldhaven. Things like the arena, Shadowy Connections, and such; I made sure to keep an eye on. For all of you (GMs and players both) this was a game, some more involved (and Plans/Riz even more than most involved) in it than others; but for me, this was a story.
A good one. A great one.
One where multiple different paths could converge and separate, sometimes without the players even knowing that two stories had brushed. Where every time I saw the thread "AVB - Ishmael Mk II" in my subscribed threads list, I knew another short installment of a great adventure was incoming.
So thank you, Planswalker, Rizaban, Monodominant, Lokio, Hustlertwo, and all the other GMs and players. For building a world where even someone who knows nothing about the game can have a wonderful experience.
Sad news indeed that Plans and Rizban are leaving...
AvB (Assassins vs Bodyguards) was one of the first games I tried here in Giantitp forums and it was actually the longest running... it combined the freshness of a campaign with a nice backstory with the whole sandbox idea and the fact that it was mostly 1 on 1 it meant that you could expect a decent pace and you could really do what you wanted.
I thorougly enjoyed Plans plotlines that he run for me and its good to hear that others were entertained by our threads! Ishmael has become one of my favorite PCs of all time up there with characters I ran for years on tabletop campaigns!
That said at least for the people I am running I will continue posting for them if they want me too... I guess there will be less cross-references to other threads and hints of other PC involvement (or I will actually use abandonded PCs as NPCs making cameo appearance :D )
At least if thats okay with Rizban and Plans...
And if someone dies I guess that will be when the timeline ends for them as I wont be re-rolling them...
For me personally AvB is not a drag at all... maybe cause I came in as DM later but I still find it fun to DM all these people into their own stories and ventures... whats more it helps me pass the time at work when things are slow and I am bored at just staring the PC screen.
So yea, all those of you under my AUTHORITAH you can expect continued updates if you want them... I hope also as Lyndworm suggests that the others not as burned out continue and maybe we have some intereaction!
So, once again a BIG THANKS to Planswalker and Rizban for all the effort, all the time and all the willpower they put into this game and I hope its okay with them if I continue to use the Wiki Resource and the "name" for the threads that are still active!

I do believe a very big thank you is in order for both of you. AvB has been loads of fun!! And one of the examples where RP shines. It's depth and the knowledge you are not the only one in town really made every single DM word intriging. (one of the reasons I'm still working on a list of plothooks to finish)
It has inspired me to wanting to recreate/use this awesomeness into a campaign for my RL group, if you don't mind. So should you decide to develop it into a campaign setting, you have just found yourself a user!! Actually liking the way single player interaction works out for the city, and trying to get this into a way to work with my RL group.
As for my current game, I'd love to continue playing, Mono, but I'm sure you already knew.

I'm going to be updating my players too, but I seem to be not getting notified when they post to the threads. So, if you post and I don't respond, then please PM me after a day or so.
That said, I'm really to that good of a DM and have relied pretty heavily on Rizban's help and suggestions, so I'm not sure how good I'm going to do now since he is leaving...
Planswalker, I know I've been a difficult player at times, but I'm really glad you were my DM for so long. You told a good story for me.
Riz, yeah I talk to you basically every day, so I don't know what to say to you here...
I won't clog up the place with another long post. I'll just say thanks to Riz and Plans for making this game an expending more time than I can even fathom to constructing the most fully-formed D&D world I've played in to date. AVB opened my eyes to just what could be done in a PbP format, and it was executed with obvious talent and attention to detail. Honestly, the surprise isn't that you both quit, but that you managed to continue on as long as you did under the Herculean effort it required to create this world and manage the number of players you both did.
An especial thanks to Plans, my erstwhile and oft-harassed DM. Despite our clashings, you led Wilstaff and I through quite a ride, and I enjoyed every minute of it. You will likely be the example I use for any DMing I do in the future for some time to come. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you on occasion, and if you have any other games you feel like having an ornery player for, I'm here.
Also, anyone who belongs to me can continue to play as long as they so desire. But like Mono, if you die, you're dead. No one's rerolling.
Additional thanks to my co-DMs, and of course, our players. It was a true sandbox game; all of you worked together to shape this into the rich and massive world it was.

Well I am a mix bag of emotions. Part of me says thanks for the opportunity to participate in the best RP games out of all the ones I have done.
The other part is... less than happy not getting in. Even worse is being so close yet just not able to get in. Who knows maybe the surgery and such held me back just a little. Maybe since right at the doorstep and a DM doesn't mind can take me on though if not oh well.
As for one of your rules I broke it multiple times. Loved the chance to get in so much that would sneak a look at some of the other people's threads. Didn't read far as just didn't understand much though Willstaff&Bennett and the Erbaur's shop thread were the ones read the most.
Well nice job on creating such an icon of what RP can be.

Live like your dying because today could be your last day.
I do have access to my laptop so can be on more often until my time is up. I do plan on making the most of it without investing into any long-term pbp.
Playing Gregor has been the most beautiful exercise in what an evil man with a human moral compass can do, where he can go, and how hard it is to be justifiably evil without being insane. I honestly could play him forever or stop today, all the important stuff in his life is complete, and now he has only the sky to set his eyes on.

It's been a wonderful ride playing with you guys. Perry diCarto was my first sandbox character and ultimately one of the most rewarding PCs I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Plans, thank you so much for taking Perry on such an epic ride.
I'll admit here that I'm done as well. I've got exams, I'm working as a prosecutor this summer, I'm a super active player on a major Vampire: the Requiem site; I don't have time to DM multiple PCs anymore.
If ever you guys need a player for one of your games, please, consider getting in touch with me. It's been a pleasure helping to run this game for the last 8 months.
I look forward to the next project and working with Rizban to bring you more fantastic D&D 3.5 experiences in the future.
Cheers,
Lokio

Sad to hear the game is ending. I learned a lot about skilled melee combat from this game, thanks to Lokio and the Guard bootcamp he ran me through. I didn't have the chance to get really attached to my character, but I was having a great deal of fun running Glim.
Lokio, thanks for the incredibly interesting plot you had begun to run me through! I was really looking forward to figuring out what side all of those characters were on. If you're ever looking for someone to play with in a game, send me a PM. I didn't have a ton of time to pick up on all that you were attempting to teach me, but I greatly appreciate your advice and input!
Plans & all those involved, thank you for running one of the most awesome concepts I've come across in a PbP game. While I didn't get a chance to become significantly involved in the world, I greatly enjoyed my time there.
On a whim the other day, I looked for a reasonably long running pbp game to read through for a couple of hours, imagine my surprise when I realised I had stumbled upon a massive interwoven sandbox game, each thread detailed and incredibly run. 3 days and upwards of a hundred pages later, I find that it has recently come to an end, while I was initially upset, having been interested in getting involved, I think I'm just amazed, still barely realizing it's the tip of the iceberg. Really massive congratulations to everyone involved, for what I think has been the most impressive pbp effort on these forum,
And If anyone wants to pm me some suggested reading to keep me amused, please feel free.

well, gee, thanks. Glad to know someone else enjoys our stuff too. As for suggested reading, I don't mind sharing links publicly now that the game has died. I have 71 threads in their own folder of my thread subscriptions. A few are for the older incarnation of AVB, but most are from this one. Here's a few choice threads:
The City Streets, where all the adventures began. Prib, one of our oldest characters Ymeo, Monodominant's first character. He entered the docks with some other folks at night and died. Time, my first character. Death by not being as devout as he should have been. A teamup to raid the temple of Tiamat. It went well. I think most of them survived. Kel, a mysterious assassin who died due to pvp. Ishmael, one of the few pc's who actually filled out a thread and started a new one. Monodominant's second character. Another teamup, this one rather short. Bear, my second character. He summoned a lot of stuff and went up against the temple of Pelor. Died in a random mugging (sort of). An interesting thread about someone who made shady friends The OTHER teamup in the punishing passage the COMBINED thread for the two teamups when they met up. An investigation into the disappearances in Old Town. Ended up trying to go after a million gold bounty. He was not a millionaire. Slumming it up with a hobgoblin or two is great fun. Special note on this one: the entire slums area was developed into a viable scenario specifically because of this pc. Alfonso mk II comes out to play A merchant with dreams to bring about communist russia Shadow Connections, the longest, most powerful, and most effective teamup the history of AVB in any incarnation. Its full aftereffects had not been totally explored by the time the game ended. A teamup thread for three pc's who interacted frequently. The three come and go from that thread interwoven with their personal threads. Debatra was nibbled to death by rats. A church inquisitor who saw evil everywhere Jedidiah should be a fun read Kiran gets my vote for strangest Perry, the goliath detective who could have had it all, before he ran afoul of politics. Current occupation: babysitter. Mordricari, another pc with longevity Remilia just wanted to find her sister Silvanus the tree Willstaff and Bennet, one of my favorite characters. If the other hob was the one who sparked the slums into a playable area, this is the one who turned it into a bonfire. Hagan, the oldest and longest-running pc in the game. Foodling Around, after Perry was semi-retired for a while
this is just a selection. I didn't link you to EVERY last one I had. If you want to find more, search the IC section of the forums for "AVB" threads started by planswalker, rizban, monodominant, lokio, or hustlertwo. That should find you most of them.
I miss this game. And im sure mono has some good plans in mind for the Godly detective.
Shadowy Connections was manly as hell. I wonder what wouldve happened if Perry had gone rogue and he and Ishmael had worked on real justice together... But alas, we shall never know.

AvB has been the best PBP I have ever played and DMed. The one on one meant you could really give to each PC what they wanted (or at least try) and at the same time allowed for whatever pace the player wanted (up to the DMs maximum pace) which is a core issue in most PBPs where things tend to be really slow due to many people and their own timings.
As for Lokio... I hope he wont mind me taking him from the political/guard based Arena and just going for some simple plots with hack n slash so that he gets to enjoy all the fighting goodness he has access to and be challenged :D
By the way if I had to choose 1 thread that I enjoyed the most (apart from mine off course) that would be Hustlerstwos one... that character was/is truly amazing.

Wow plans, that is an impressive list, thanksyou, should keep me entertained for a while. Monodominant, I particularly enjoyed the game you ran for Sir Chivalry, everything just fit togegher perfectly.

Thanks for the kind words about the game in general and my thread in particular, y'all. It was quite the enjoyable game, no doubt about it. Perhaps the most impressive large-scale effort this forum has ever seen. I do miss it, as there's no other game out there that can encapsulate that feeling of being one small part of a living world, populated with rich characters and run by DMs who were an endless font of both creativity and effort. However, I like seeing Mono keep his little sector of it going, and had fun doing a little guest-DMing for one of the threads a few weeks back.
I too, enjoyed the game tremendously while it was, alas, not too long. I wonder what was up with the NPCs my Warforged Artificer encountered and what their long-term plans were...
Also, as I were playing around with the possibilities of Artificer, I could see how the class can really push envelopes easily. For example, at 5th level, using the Greater Armor Infusion, I could infuse Helper himself with Etherealness, and turn ethereal (As long as the infusion lasts, probably, which is 50 minutes at level 5).
So...he could probably pass through many impassible places he wasn't supposed to go. I was guessing highly secured places were off limit with protections, but I could easily see he could probably get into the Farmer's Ruin/dungeon that was closed up, and check it out. He probably could craft up some summon-spell based wand, turn himself invisible, go to the end of the dungeon while ethereal, and just sit and summon monsters into the room invisibly, clear the room, loot, and get out. Maybe with a scroll of Dimension Door as escape plan if things go wrong.
There are many "What if I did" questions with some of the crazy things Artificer let you do at that level...
