Well, I can afford 500 gp... of coures, mucco, given Melchia's powers and inclinations, is there any way he could 'persuade' the seller of said item to its market price (15 gp a charge, or 300 gp in this case)?

Hm, let's make a rule for haggling. By RAW it's a flat out DC 10 Diplomacy check to lower price by 10%, IIRC. Let's keep it diplomacy, but based on Rich's ruling which is the standard for the campaign. Additionally, let's key it to the value of the item - Such a wand could fit nicely in the "2nd level items" column of MIC random treasure. So, DC 17 base, plus whatever level+Wis mod the shopkeeper has. Charm spells and the like will work as usual, lowering the DC.

...I get the feeling I didn't update my sheet after our last few surges of income.
Besides, Sharing is Caring so we can always just do a sort of debt-free 'is this an item that will help us all? Yes? Here, take some of my money' system for these things.
Manifest Suggestion with Psionic Endowment, shopkeep has to make a DC 17 Will save: "I suggest you sell this to me for fair market price, and thank me for saving your worthless ass from pole-vaulting ghouls."

Cool! Well, it's bedtime for me; I'll do some shopping tomorrow.
Also, kind of random, but I thought I'd spread the word that I'm dusting off my DMing jacket once again, and getting ready to run a game on Myth-Weavers. You folks are certainly awesome, and welcome to apply.

Sounds interesting. Too bad I don't really have time for that!
Should I mention that the party, as of now, should decide to go somewhere?
Options are going back to the Guardian with the sunflower seed, pursuing the necromancer in hopes to clear up the undead situation, looking for clues in Icmud about the assassins who are after you, or look for a generic adventuring job.

At the moment Otrino's for tracking the necromancer, but he knows that's more about getting even than anything else, and he can be talked out of it fairly easily.

Hmmmm. I'd say we go after the necromancer. We could get an (at least semi safe/useful) base of operations or at least a place that gives us free room/board, a reputation, and who knows, maybe this ties into the 'people are trying to kill you' plot line?
Mucco, two questions about houseruling the mount spell.
First, would it be possible to summon a (not war-trained - mount is not supposed to summon combatants) riding dog with the spell instead of a horse or pony?
Second, if it is not, would it be possible to summon a horse or pony with the Track feat instead of either Endurance or Run?

That way lies madness! Meddling with summon feats is one good way to quickly make a summoner/minion master broken, in my opinion. My Dread Necro player tried that trick countless times.
In particular, I think the intended purpose of this spell is not to give the party a tracker, but a mount only. Therefore, no I'm sorry.
There should be some summons with track? They're going to last rounds/level, of course, but at an intersection they'll do.

Well sure, you can get that out of SMI, and it'll be easier to command since it's a celestial creature rather than an animal. I was just worried about duration.

I think it's intended. The spell words it specifically to be a mount and not a tracker, I believe they were trying to avoid this when they wrote the spell. With such a big duration, Mount would fill the role of the tracker and possibly make a ranger in a party worthless.
This at least is what a typical WotC designer might have thought.

Strictly speaking, tracking's worthless anyway. If the GM wants you to have the encounter at the end of a trail, and you lose the trail, you'll get ambushed by whatever you were tracking. If the GM doesn't want you to have the encounter, you will lose the trail, period. But of course our characters don't know that
