Where is it actually written in the rules that maintaining bardic music takes a standard action? Can anyone point it out to me? I've never played that way, but still, I'd like to know if that's a personal houserule or not...

Actually, I thought it explicitly stated it required concentration, but...

The effect lasts for as long as the ally hears the bard sing and for 5 rounds thereafter.
Apparently, you don't need to concentrate for that use of Bardic Music. I always played it the opposite of how you do it, apparently I was wrong.
You just need to not become unconscious, then. If you want to take a standard action now, it's fine.
Yeah, there's a feat in Complete Mage, I think, that lets you cast spells or use magic items while performing bardic music, and it wouldn't make sense if it already required a standard action to use things like Inspire Courage. It would also kill Snowlflake Wardance melee bard builds, etc.

I wish I were three levels higher and could cast Dispel Magic. And even if I were third level and could cast second-level spells, I barred Evocation. No Gust of Wind.
If nobody has anything else to do, making your way to the fire and carrying a brand through the fog to burn it off is...an option. It'd probably be a full-round action to clear each square of fog, and squares would have to be cleared one at a time though, so it's basically a waste of actions.
But really, the fog isn't the big issue. We're all clustered near the edge and can simply move out if we need to see what's going on, which is not necessarily a given since Rubido can see and report to Melchia and Selia via Mindlink. In the meantime it prevents their archers from focus-firing the elder. It's the deafness that's the problem, as it imparts a 20% failure rate to all spells with verbal components. That is, all bard spells, bardic music, and all the spells Otrino has prepared.
I suspect we'll be relying heavily on Rubido, especially if he can get past the drow frontliners and to DS (drow sorcerer?).

For those wondering, DS used Retreat and stepped diagonally on his way to cover. He imagined the summon might expire very soon (it will at the start of Otrino's next turn).
The badger prevented DS from casting, effectively trading two move actions on its part for a standard on the part of DS. I would say it did its job quite nicely, and deserves the easy, painless trip back to Celestia it will get on the start of my next turn.
That the other drow have begun retreating as well is just gravy. Let's sic 'em.

He is dressed in black, like everyone else. He's the only one who isn't wielding a weapon, and the only one whose hair is short. He's also the one giving the orders. You don't seem to notice particular armor beneath the clothes, but again, you don't usually notice light armor under clothing.
Assume that Selia gestures to you as well as using Mindlink (she's the only one you can see), and you get a hint that "something" may be happening to the elder. She's wise enough to do it and you're smart enough to figure out something.
Also, I checked with Curmudgeon and Tremorsense = Blindsense, not Blindsight. So the spider will know where enemies are within the fog but still have total concealment.

Huh. I went with something a little different.

Even though Melchia's got a lot of money, he still doesn't have anything in particular he wants to purchase. That said, as a party we can pool our resources and purchase something generally useful, like a wand of Cure Light Wounds or something. That's always a sound investment for low-level characters.
As for a destination, Melchia's interested in this strange disembodied voice. If it helps solve the mystery of the gypsy curse, so much the better.
