Been following this strip for a while now. The art style's really cute and I like the content too which is always a plus

I really identify with Fern even without Prince Zahn's suggestion: I'm pretty much exactly the same way with drunks and I'm not the most confident person at the best of times either.

Keep up the good work!

I've praised this comic before, and now I find myself doing it again. Brilliant fun. It saddens me that there's one less Bacchae in the world, though. ;P

I especially like how the shy one suffers and isn't doted on all the time by the others.

Ah, but see, That's the beauty of enchantments, even if you succeeded your save while agreeing with me - how would you know? I'll count that as a successful casting anyway.

VICTORY! Zahn +300 EXP
With all seriousness, though. Yea, I'm like that too around groups of People(approx. Rule of thumb: 4 strangers or 9 friends or 15 close friends and family)...

Poor Fern, I'd grab my brother and run far, far away from them if I was her...
But that would spoil the plot... Filing it under "optional".

Oh, and, of course, the cat saying "fancy a ***?" was positively hilarious, in case there were any doubt. >_>

You know M@XWeru, this comics seems like it's doing the kind of things your coming was thinking of doing, only by your ending description, not as worse.

Oak turned into an...oak..?

Wait, Why is that surprising? Possibly because turning into a small bird sounds like a quicker escape....

How do you stat a non-monstrous tree, anyway?

It's kinda surprising, if you know the rules, 'cause Druids aren't meant to be able to turn into literal plants. That's probably why they're not statted either!
The truth is that I made Oak and Fern's character before I knew that (guess what plant Fern can turn into!?), and I don't want to change it.

There was originally a strip where King and Tonic talked about how Fern/Oak must be variant druids (because they seem to have no animal companions), but I cut it out because it was a bit pointless and boring. But I still consider them variant druids, because of their ability to turn into plants.

Oh, Easily.

Also, I like the pale eye-patched one. (...the poor little bastard.)

Would have been nice for Tonic to state the evilness of their target beforehand though. Child-murder preeeety much makes you dead to rights.

Psh, threatening somebody who broke into your house and killing bratty children doesn't make you that sympathetic. There's much more 'sympathetic' characters to come, don't worry.

And I tried to check out your comic, but my library has a ban on imageshack so I can't. (Not sure why they have a ban on imageshack, I'm just lucky they don't know what imgur is yet.)

(CLICK!)Here is strip #28, (which takes place at the same time as #26, if anybody forgot about the BOOMS)

The Drool Carriage Way between Fern and Smokey was the final straw, I take it? [shudders]

I'm no druid, but I find a swift knee to a relevant part of the animal is often what you want... as opposed to speaking. Mind you, I'm thinking more of dogs here: a cat's claws and alarmingly-germ-ridden teeth will present you with a different set of problems.
I seem to have forgotten how one's meant to deal with cats... the general tactic seems to be that you don't deal with them - they deal with you. That or a spray bottle full of water. Or in Smokey's case, mace.

I guess if it hadn't been for that convenient rabid bear, her best bet might have been to turn into a fern. Unpleasant things might still have happened if she'd tried that, but it has the surprise factor. There's Greek Mythological Precedent of that sort of thing though, so I'm guessing it doesn't tend to end well... might have been because the turning-the-nymph-into-a-plant thing was the choice of a goddess rather than the nymph and was a one way switch though, my memory fails me...
On that note then, I'll carry on pretending that a quick change from Fern to fern to get Smokey off her face and then right back from fern to Fern so that she could RUN AWAY while he was still puzzled would have worked out ok...

ETA: [Realises in retrospect that changing into a fern would mostly have just turned her from a Fern with a cat stuck on it into a fern with a cat on top of it... ergo, sliiightly problematic. Still, changing back and forth would have been a slightly more disruptive distraction and even if it wasn't, probably would have been worth a try, had she not been paralysed with fear which may have made speciality wild shaping trickier anyways]

Well, if fern is a druid, it's not morally improper to "feed the bears" is it?
Becuase, providing he has enough hitdie, I think throwing smokey at a bear would be almost as good as giving him a cold shower.
Also, thumbs into the eyes work well if you do not care for the target much.

Oh yes, was that swear in the second to last panel too much for this forum? I remember some rule about whatever that has appeared in OotS is fair game but...

Might want to ask a mod? Or a wiser Playgrounder?

Other way around. The comic is not a standard for what's acceptable on the forums. (I've been trying to find a citation, but I can't seem to get the search terms right and I need to leave for class. I'll try again when I get back.)

And, yes, **** is censored on the forum.

These were my thoughts (although you put them much more succinctly).

It worries me somewhat that I am so enured to cussing that after studying that specific panel the swear completely passed me by - which is why I pointed out the saliva chain (which is totally gross btw) that's the main thing I noticed - I wasn't being obtuse there, the word just didn't really have any impact... Which is odd, I guess, since it was said by a cat.
