Yes I was actually there. No I did not see the hologram of Tupac, because there was no way in hell I was going to see Dr. Dre, Snoop, Eminem, and Wiz-Khalifa, because 3 out of 4 of those rappers are godawful. I did see it a video of it though. Odd.
Which one do you consider not godawful? I'm curious.
On a similar note, who is the greatest rapper alive? I hear that title thrown around a lot, I'm curious about y'all's opinions.
Y'all know I'm gonna say Aesop Rock. I really don't listen to a ton of hip hop so I can't make a particularly educated claim, but Aes is hard to beat. Can't wait for his new album.
Alright guys. You all seem pretty savvy of the music world so I submit to you a request for a name of a song. Here is the song and if you're interested in quirky math facts then you will enjoy the video too.

On the rapper bit, I'm digging Scarface and Pharoahe Monch. I don't know if I would call them the greatest alive since I'm so ignorant to the genre but I'll give them their good tunes.

But seriously, in terms of flow and lyrical quality/cleverness and subject matter, I'm agreeing with Moff: Aesop Rock wins. My favorite group is Dälek, though, who stand as the only hip-hop band that has collaborated with a krautrock band.

Rappers I like: Aesop Rock is at the top. dalek are up there. K-os is really good music, but rap-wise not so up there. Del the Funkee Homosapien is good as well.
That's the unfortunate problem with time - it passes away and sweeps people away.
I got to know her thanks to Thank God It's Friday and I'm very glad I did. Full version of Love To Love You Baby is breathtaking and it pointed me toward Gorgio Moroder.

Dunno if anyone here has heard of Joel Tenenbaum, a 28-year-old student who was condemned to a fine of $675,000 for illegally downloading 30 songs... That's over $22,500 per song.
Now, I'm well aware that the music industry needs to protect its interests, and that they must sometimes set an example. But this is ridiculous. How can they possibly expect a student to cough up that kind of money? He might as well have bought the rights for all these songs.

Nas. I'm usually not one for ranking artists like that, but he's my favorite living rapper. Of course, if hip hop itself is dead, why limit ourselves to the living? On a semi-related note, hard bop hip hop is the best musical genre name.
Oh man, Polyphonic Spree is still just... I cannot believe how amazingly emotionally catastrophic their music is. I just cannot parse how devastating it is, and yet how uplifting.
I like metal. Pretty much all of it...except for nu-metal (mallcore)
I really love Mastodon, Symphony x, Gojira, Children of Bodom, High on Fire, Helloween, Megadeth, System of a Down, Between the Buried and Me, Isis, Dream Theater, Baroness, Warbringer, Wolfmother, Testament...that kinda stuff.
Would love recommendations for other bands that fit in my tastes...
The metal thread is the only Genre thread that seems to keep itself alive. I have no clue how.
I don't even like metal...
It exists solely to spite you.
