I have to say I rather liked it. It was a nice character-building episode; not everything has to be part of a huge over-arching plot.

Except without one its just "yes a lot of poor kids died, aren't supervillians awful" and so forth. Trying to negate the casualties of these sorts of things with superheroics is disturbingly unrealistic because you start wondering why say Earth isn't a utopia. It doesn't improve the story to nullify it, but dwelling on it makes thing much much grimmer.

And yeah the father of Xanatos does seem to be overdoing it a touch. Its one thing to have other aims achieved even when a plan fails... but not when said plan has no goal anyways.

Alternatively, they're laying out a somewhat lengthy plot arc...and this is just the start.
They did somsthing similar in JL/JLU, of course (Cadmus arc among others), and, really, for Vandal Savage himself (the Big Cheese of The Light) to be out punching guys around*, you'd think there'd have to be something big in the works and this was just (intended to be?) the kickoff...

* Admittedly, sometimes, you just want to go out there and punch a guy with a closed fist, as it is, on occasion, hilarious.

Even for no Speed Force mere Mach 1 is exceptionally slow for a Flash... and presumably by extension every other hero as it starts putting Superman slower then speeding bullet. Or this universe commits far more serious heresy then we think.

I'll prefer to weasel out and say that because there's no Speed Force among other things the package would not have survived running faster for all of this top speed nonsense. I very rarely take single instance statements very seriously in comics unless I know they will be backed up. Mind you thats more for avoiding the whole "let's cherry-pick the most the over the top examples as our normal then ignore when they are inexplicably weaker" sorta thought that pollutes comics.

Or just that Wally is nowhere as fast as Barry yet.

(Also finding a AskGreg and searching Speed Force reveals a minor dogpile on the creator by comic book guys, so he seems to be welching that nobody on Earth-16 has heard of the Speed Force and we are welcome to still put it there.)

I don't think being around Mach 1 is odd for Wally, since his comics counterpart was limited to that speed at the beginning of his career as a Flash (though he could go faster as KF)

Would that be... Post-COIE to Pre Speed Force era then?

I've only followed Flash through appearances elsewhere (by Morrison's JLA run Wally was up to c+ speed) or adaptation. I'd say certainly general opinion among fans is at least that "the Fastest Man Alive" needs (and generally is) to be faster then Supes. Who is of course faster then a speeding bullet.

All kinda a side-bar for this show though. Just as long as we keep our heresies straight.

So he much food energy does Wally burn when he runs?
Apparently, he needs to "pig out" to run since he burns so many calories.

How efficient is this energy conversion?

Its more of a side effect then anything else, I don't think the Flashes have ever been too hungry to run. And its about as efficient as Superman getting energy from Yellow Sunlight.

Read not even remotely sensible but at least it sounds good.

Well, we know that he can average at least 850 miles per hour, which is above the speed of sound; he went more than 3000 miles in approximately 3 and a half hours.

Plot Speed generally illustrates how writers never run their numbers.

There is semi-famous comics example of Flash evacuating a city before a nuke can can go off in 1/100 billionth of a second while running "just under the speed of light" which would actually require him going some 13 trillion times above it. So what cherry picking bits of text and event would you like to resolve this conundrum?

Its a good reason to treat ANY attempt to quantify superpowers in terms of actual measurement as broad hyperbole at best when spoken and that nothing merely inferred from being displayed should even be acknowledged for a second.

Freak snowstorm stops the heart delivery? not so much. Admittedly having the Clock King just mess with the duty roster would have been easier.

Also superhero stories and logic don't mix well, like physics and D&D.

Um, what? No. Just pay a guy with a gun lots of money. Just because you know a bunch of guys in tights doesn't mean that you have to use them.

But paying an assassin to use a gun would be so...gauche. So crude and lacking in style and class.

For a supervillain, that's an important thing; for nobility, also. For the two combined...

Also she does have bodyguards. Mundanes to fight mundanes, heroes to fight villains.

You can use the model presented just fine with a little modification

Count V: Vandal I'm next in line but for this sick little girl. Do you think an entire country would be able to help your plans for the small price of installing the leadership?
Vandal S: Why yes my dear Count I do believe it would be a valid. Now let me see who might be dumb enough to be set-up for money and think they could get away with it....
Supervillian #3: Sure thing Vandal I'll smash up this hospital for you, money up front though.

And then a said hospital is flattened by a tanker truck being thrown into it by IDW Doctor Polaris or someone. They either get caught by the heroes or get away with it. However unless the heroes can somehow go from there to Vandal Savage and get Savage to testify he did it at Count Vertigo's request or otherwise prove that.... Vertigo still gets the country and there's nothing the heroes can do.

Given that the Light controls superjail one could even throw that into the bargaining with the proxy. Sure they might get caught, but have performed a valuable service doing so that will be aptly repaid. In the mean time just chill for whomever above Hugo Strange is supervising the prison when they visit. I bet wine and caviar are being discretely shipped into the place everyday already.

Using an entire country as a distraction is just overkill.

Yeah, but that wouldn't make for a cute story about Kid Flash delivering a heart to a sick girl. It doesn't sound superheroey at all, really.

I missed it due to sleeping in and haven't been able to find a copy on Youtube yet myself.

Edit: Looks like it'll be on tomorrow morning again though, along with the first non-pilot episode of Green Lantern. Guess I'll set my alarm and hope for the best.

There's a Bonus for waking up early enough to catch green lantern
The DC short this week is Lauren Faust's super best friends!
Guess who's voicing batgirl?
I already want to see it made into a full series ^^

More then a chance in a superhero verse. The specific though is pretty interesting deviation though even for this show.

Don't we all? I mean I know it takes a lot to get a show greenlit and all but c'mon how often are you going to get a show with not one but two built-in fanbases to swarm it with love. And an animated cartoon about a three superhero girls, that will never work out.

Maybe if this block does well it can be expanded in 2013?
