Default Dragons of Autumn-DL III-Pax Tharkas

Gneiss walks up to the hole in the ground and it's definitely a well. It goes deep into the ground. Before everyone else joins him, he hears a murmuring from the other side of the door. (door is about 10ft in front of him and on the other side of the well)

He barely stops Tygerlilly from walking right into the hole. She's busy staring around at all the boxes and supplies and she diverts right around his arm and over to pry open a box.

Spoiler

Does anyone want to search the supplies? Or go right on through? Gneiss is standing by the black circle (well) and you came from the right hand corridor.

Pearl

Pearl does her best to gather everyone around.

"Right, everyone. A quick reminder that our goal is NOT to kill everyone we see, but to free the prisoners. This secret way out is the key to our success.

"Rhys, I'm thinking that you should wait on the other side of this door, to bar it in case it's located by any of the dragonarmy, and to make sure that we can get it open, in case it doesn't always work from this side. Can you handle that?"

Rhys nervously nods and one of the militiamen also volunteers to stay behind. It's better to remain behind with two than one. Easier to take care of any sudden problems.

Kalrin pokes through the boxes with Tygerlilly and they find various food stuffs, wine skins, barrels of wine and ale, sacks of flour, oats and rye and several boxes full of potatoes.

"Hey Hector," Kalrin calls, holding up a potato, "want to try out your cooking skills?" He then looks pensively at the tuber, and after a minute of contemplations throws some of the smaller ones in his pack.

"I've had his cooking. Save yourself the trouble and eat the potato raw. But first - let's get ready to move out. Gneiss, can you hear anything through the door?"

Lagri steels himself for the raid. The pass of the dead lingered on his mind like fog on sails. Which is to say, not at all.

"Pree-sun-ears," Lagri enunciated the foreign word with an exaggeration of his mainland compatriots' accent, "Free preesunears. Kill vat gets in vay."

Hector

Hector was about to take Kalrin's challenge, full of enthousiasm (and hunger), when Pearl blew his cooking cover. Better raw than burnt to a crisp, eh Pearl?"

He shoved a good deal of the potatoes in his sack, hoping to eat them at a later time - at a feast with all the prisoners would be the best - and moved closer to the door, ready to go forward.

"There's somebody there, all right. And as much noise as we're making, by now they probably know we're here too," Gneiss answers Pearl's question, a certain amount of frustration in his voice. " Well, maybe they're friendly. Hmmph."

"If there's some dragon-men or goblins or something on the other side of the door, it's important that we knock them out quickly, or at least block off their route to run away and alert the others. Anyone got any suggestions better than a straight-forward 'open the door and charge through?'

Rhys and Solon take up their posts, guarding the way out.

Tygerlilly busily stuffs potatoes and other small food items into her pouches and backpack. She pipes up, Well, I could always skip inside and see what's happening. That would be fun to see the looks on their faces.

There hasn't been any noticeable change in the noises coming from the other side of the door.

"You know, my usual plan for this kind of situation is to not be in this kind of situation," Gneiss whispers wryly.

"Still," he goes on, cocking his head to listen, "I don't hear any reaction from the other room yet... Give me just a second." He moves quietly to the door and listens carefully.

Everyone else quiets down and Tygerlilly scuffs the floor with her shoe, no one seemed to like her idea. She twirls the end of her topknot around one small hand.

Gneiss listens quietly at the door and it sounds like there are several different voices coming from the far side, they seem to be arguing about something.

Hector dramatically kicks down the door and has trouble locating the far door. His attention is distracted by the sight of the elven princess with her distinctive long hair and a draconian holding her cruelly by one arm as he wrestles her around.

There are six draconians in the room and once Pearl, Bryce, Hector or Lagri get a good look at them, they realize they're the kind that dissolves into a pool of acid when they die.

Pearl's heart sank when she saw the elf-woman in the hands of the draconians. Especially those ones. Her feet were still sore from the last time.

She called out to their new allies as she dashes in. "Careful - these dragonmen spill out acid on all sides when they die!"

She follows Hector into the room, trying to maneuver around to block off another door before slashing at one of the dragon-men.

Lagri rushes in right after Hector bashes the door in and takes out the closest draconian, turning him into 5ft pool of acid.

Kalrin casts silent image and makes it look like the other doors are blocked off, leaving no exits from the room.

Gneiss tumbles past the draconian holding onto the princess and slices upward, and disembowels him in one swipe, turning him into a pool of acid. Lauarana takes a quick step back once she's released. Gneiss makes it past just in time.

Pearl makes it to the other side of the room and attacks another draconian, easily taking it out and turning it into another pool of acid creeping towards her feet.

Hector sprints around the edge of the room, avoiding the growing pools of acid on the floor and reaches the other side.

Bryce is by the doorway and Tygerlilly is complaining about the effect of acid on metal as she's throwing a dagger at one of the still standing draconians as he threatens Laurana and Gneiss. Her dagger sticks in one of his wings.

Gilthanas rushes to aid his sister and casts magic missile at the draconian and almost killing it.

Eben and Hamel take on one of the other draconians. Eben wounds him and Hamel goes to the other side and manages to slice into the enemy.

There are three draconians left, one severely wounded, one slightly wounded and one that hasn't been touched yet. The severely wounded one staggers after Gneiss and completely misses. The slightly wounded one attacks Eben and manages to cut into his arm. The remaining draconian takes a look at his choices and attacks Lagri. He manages to scratch Lagri and probably make him angrier (dam: 2)

Lagri dismembers the previously unwounded draconian, turning him into several smaller piles of acid.

Kalrin's illusion of no exits from the room is still going strong. He expertly flings a dagger at one of the draconians, hitting and wounding it in the leg.

Gneiss darts in and attacks the draconian closest to him, but misses by a few inches on each attack.

Pearl looks around to see how many enemies are remaining just in time to watch Hector take out one of them.

Hector takes out the draconian that was attacking Eben, leaving Eben to jump back a little to avoid the acid.

Bryce is near where they first entered, along with Hamel.

Tygerlilly is getting annoyed with the draconian bothering her and Gneiss, so she stabs it again, and shouts with glee when it suddenly dissolves at her feet.

Gilthanas is quick to reach the side of his sister, but he keeps one eye out for trouble, but it seems all the draconians have been dealt with.
