{Nexus} Good League of Good LXXVII: Earth Vampires DON'T Sparkle!
Please read as far as the double lines before posting in this thread
The Good League of Good is a Nexus organization devoted to the redemption of evildoers and the care and support of those in need. If you are looking to smite evil, please check out HALO or WATCHTOWER.
If you are brand new to ffrp, please come to the Nexus OOC thread and introduce yourself. We all want to meet you!
A Brief History of GLoG:
Spoiler
You know what this OP needs? A brief history of GLoG. Which would have to be written by one of the few people who were around from the beginning. Any volunteers?
Our Redemption Program:
Spoiler
Individuals who come in search of redemption should be interviewed by a member to see how their needs can be best met, and then assigned to a mentor who will assist them. Those with deep seated psychological issues can be sent to Dr Burnett, the psychiatrist, who will hold sessions with them in a different thread. Graduation from the redemption program will occur when both the redemee and his/her mentor agree that they have made sufficient progress.
Other Charitable Activities:
Spoiler
In addition to the redemption of evildoers, the organization performs other good works such as caring for distressed individuals in need, housing and feeding evacuees from the city during disasters, and healing sick and injured people in GLoG's infirmary - renowned as the most advanced place of healing in the Nexus.
Attention villains:
Spoiler
Conflict is great! It's the heart of any story, and there isn't much to roleplay without it. However, as a player to player courtesy, please check in with the players who are active at any given time before launching an attack. Not everyone wants to roleplay combat scenes, and sometimes there are other things going on that players don't want to interrupt for a random fight. Either a PM/IM to players, a short post in thread to say ((Mind if I introduce a villain here?)) or a longer post in the OOC thread if it's a larger plot is appreciated.
Also, please don't plan any villainy that will result in destroying the base or having the same effect (poisoning the lake, burning down the forest, etc.) without the consent of the majority of the players who would be affected.
Base Defences:
Spoiler
There is a perimeter of cactus plants to encourage anyone on foot to enter by one of the main entrance points.
((If any of your characters add more defences, please PM them to the person who made this thread so they can be added.))
======================================
If you're a newbie, and you've read this far, you should know enough to join in the fun.
Everything beyond this point is Bonus Material.
Members/Residents:
Spoiler
Please PM the creator of the OP to be added to the list when you bring a character into the thread with the intention of redeeming or of having them reside here on a regular basis. IC, we'll assume there's a sign in log somewhere.
Our IC leadership council:
Quinn (played by The Bushranger)
Runner (played by KerfuffleMach2)
Phoenix (played by Kid Kris)
Andreas Emeral (played by Zefir)
Shrike (played by The Bushranger)
Zamira (played by horngeek)
Reelshka (played by Morty) Ironbeard (npc, can be played by anyone)
The leadership council exists so that any one member can make important decisions affecting all of GLoG. Basically, when someone shows up and says 'I need to speak to the person in charge', any one of the leadership council can handle it.
Description of the new GLoG setting:
(map to come maybe?)
Spoiler
After the original GLoG building was destroyed by an army of catpeople, the survivors took out a mortgage and purchased Phoenix Lake Campground. Facilities include the main lodge house, a bathhouse with separate male and female sections, a stable (one horse present, a chestnut mare named Fancy owned by Dr Burnett), various picnic shelters, and a few scattered cabins. It's set in the foothills of the Acro mountains, and mainly surrounded by woods. There are many hiking trails nearby leading to mountaintop vistas, waterfalls, seacoves, and various other locations, both within this thread, and in the Outside thread. The campground is also within easy walking distance of the city of Inside, though there is also a Riftline station just outside the campground for those who prefer to take the train or who have farther to go.
At the lake, there is a small dock with a little shed nearby where a few canoes and paddleboats are stored. The swimming area has a GIANT slide and a rope swing. Because GIANT slides and rope swings are awesome. There is a sandy volleyball court not far from the slide, a playground under the trees, set back from the lake somewhat, and a set of horseshoe pits.
Having been built on a Generic Ancient Burial Ground, Phoenix Lake Campground is haunted by various ghosts. They are generally harmless, and for the most part glad to have some company, though pranks and hijinks may occur. Ghosts can be NPC'd by anyone unless they are listed as PCs in the Member/Resident list. They tend to speak in Gray, and mostly appear for comic purposes, but this is by no means a requirement.

Buildings:
Spoiler
Main Lodge: This large building contains an industrial kitchen with a cafeteria style serving area, and an open space that was once used as the dining hall. The space is warmed by a massive fireplace. Bunk beds are lined up on one end of the hall, opposite the kitchen, and a few comfy chairs and sofas are beginning to appear around the fireplace as they are procured. The building itself is made of stone.
Bathhouse: This building is divided into the men's and women's bathhouses, with entrances at either end. It has shower stalls, a line of sinks, and toilet stalls in each.
Cabins: Individuals can have their own room within a cabin, but they are unlikely to have a full cabin to themselves unless they come equipped with a family. Some of the cabins have been rebuilt, so may have more space than the 4 room cabins the campground came with, and a few cabins have had private bathrooms installed. All cabins are named after trees, and players are free to invent further details about their own cabins.
Spoiler
Main Lodge - Willow Infirmary - Cedar
Cabin 1 - Oak
Cabin 2 - Sycamore
Cabin 3 - Redwood
Cabin 4 - Maple Cabin 5 - Apple - Visitor's Cabin
Cabin 6 - Cherry
Cabin 7 - Chestnut
Cabin 8 - Birch
Cabin 9 - Dogwood
Cabin 10 - Elm - full
Cabin 11 - Denim - family cabin
Cabin 12 - Rowan
Cabin 13 - Poplar - family cabin
Cabin 14 - Forest Hut - family cabin
Cabin 5 - Apple is reserved for visitors who do not want to stay at the lodge. They are requested to check in at the main lodge, where any member can give them permission to stay for a few days. Longer than that, and unless they are in need, they would be requested to either join or move to their own place or one of the local inns.
New cabins can be added as the needed. Here is a list of unused tree names:
Workshop: A well built cabin designed by Reelshka, containing nothing at present but the Mainframe installation. It is locked. Drones fly in and out of a small entrance that opens for them when they send an encrypted signal.
Infirmary: If no PC is present in the Infirmary, patients are tended to by Nurse Piper, a ghost NPC who haunts the infirmary. Despite being a ghost, she is solid enough when managing anything to do with nursing. She has a tyrannical bedside manner, but will always put the welfare of her patients first. She is able to generally stabilize patients and do general nursing care, but cannot provide magical healing or any type of advanced medicine that would normally be performed by a doctor.
PC healers include:
Quinn (The Bushranger) - doctor and paladin
Tobias (Firefox) - druid healer
Dr Adrian Rein (Murkus) - doctor
(PM the keeper of the OP if you want your character to be added to this list)
Infirmary Description
Spoiler
The outside of the infirmary looks just like all the rest of the buildings. Nothing distinguishes it at all.
But inside, everything is white, with silver highlighting. Even though it doesn't seem possible, when looking from outside, sunlight filters inside. Giving the place a warm feeling with natural light.
A soft, soothing music filters through the whole building and words can barely be heard saying words of healing and comfort, like: "You are going to be okay." "We'll take care of you." "You are dear to us." and so on.
Each room is walled off for a limited amount of privacy, because the pixies know that humans seem to need this. Strange. But it is limited. There are no doors.
Kinda looks like this:

|__\___\___\___\___\___\___\___\___\___\|
Except the angles are more severe, so that people on the other side of the hall can't see into anyone's room. Only someone intentionally looking in, can see you.
There is also a small living area in the back for the Druid family.
About the Drones Mk 2:
Spoiler
In other news, the drones are back at GLoG. Drones are NPCs who can be played by anyone, within the guidelines below:
Their Primary Function is member safety.
They no longer have teleport beams or alignment scanners.
They do have stun beams, little arms, and the ability to record what's going on around them.
They follow orders, unless those orders conflict with their Primary Function.
There are only 4-5 in operation at any one time.
They can be destroyed, but if so, they'll be restored from backup.
A few have been supplied with medical programming, and thus can be godmodded for infirmary duties.
They often have weird personality quirks and are prone to malfunctioning.
Statement: They speak in DarkOrange FixedSys
The only named drone (so far) is Caretaker, who is a private drone charged with protecting Brinika and controlled by Morty.
There was some discussion about whether or not the time of the drones has passed, but since they are still sometimes used for mostly comic purposes, and since Brinika's personal drone is onscreen a lot, it seems right to keep a few around.
***When this thread reaches 50 pages, anyone can make a new GLoG thread. Please be willing to keep the membership tables updated, add the old thread to the Archives list, and check that the link to the Nexus OOC thread is current. If you anticipate being away from the forums much during the lifetime of the thread (each thread usually lasts a few weeks) then please let someone else do it.***

Yes, reading will help! Then she only has to deal with being the single mother of a child who's father is a rapist/slaver. Not to mention her rather complicated relationship with Waterstrider, who's now apparently missing a hand, and the fact that she has no idea how to get home to her family. >.>
"That's a good plan. At least I could figure out some things. I don't have any money for a book though. I... I'm one of the slaves that was rescued a while back."\

She yells angrily, before dragging her logs back down to her fortress and hooking up the last power supplies.
[Dwarf Fortress]
She takes a bucket of water from the well and tips it into her perpetual motion engine. The waterwheels power the pump , which pumps water past the waterwheel, which still have enough torque to power more things. She pumps the pump once and gets off, setting off all of the reactors on the level - a lot of power was needed for the stack to the earth's core.
Soon the magma starts to pump. It starts following through the ork's tunnels.

One of the slaves?
"Oh."
...
"Oh."
So the father is... Olivia fidgets. She tries another encouraging smile, but it's not a very good one.
"I think you can get money to see a doctor or buy a book here at GLoG. This is a charity organization, after all. If not... I could lend you some, and I'm sure some of the other people here would be willing to help."
She's a bit tentative to offer this, knowing that some people can be ashamed about having to accept others' help. She also only has a bit of cash remaining from what little her parents left her with.

Renetta seems to pick up on what Olivia is thinking. This line of thought clearly distresses her. She looks down at her stomach and fights the urge to cry. As a result her reply is a little shaky.
"But they've already done so much for me. I've got food clothes and a place to live because of them. It wouldn't feel right." She should really see a doctor though. That's a very reasonable thing to ask for money for.

Andy looks a while at the eyes then he stads up.
"Something is wrong with your eyes. I can't say what it is exactly, but I knew that there is something not normal. It seems like the eyes are changed to see something."

Or she could go to the Infirmary. Probably much safer.
A little halfling girl, another of the ex-slaves brings Renetta a bowl of soup, with some fresh baked bread. "But you have money, Miss Renetta. The people who rescued us sold the wagons and oxen and supplies and gave the money to all of us. They called it... 'repair-tions? If it works, he'll twist the sounds into something sounding like "Leave this place!".

[Lakeshore]
Sophie's shotgun blast interrupts Vire's transformation, his body instantly returning to normal, but unarmed; the bullets fly off in a blaze of dust. Vire looks cold and hard at Sophie as he stands firmly on the spot, feet planted straight on the ground. Sophie might notice that he is no longer covered in dust, but that he is steadily being recovered in dirt, which appears on his form gradually without apparent causation. He extends his arm in a classic pistol fighter's pose, leveling the heavy barrel of pistol in line with Sophie's chest. His finger plays the trigger, spitting out a thunderous retort, smoke, and a speeding lead bullet.
Modar is taking cover behind Brand; if he wasn't tied up, the large man would be using him as a shield. He's definitely spooked and disoriented when Echo pulls his little trick, but he's also mad. "Devil take you, you goddamn floater!" He spits on the ground, and unfurls his bullwhip. With a shout he lashes his captive, striking the defenseless halfling. "You clear on out, specter, or I'll flay this boy alive!"

Brand takes the whip blow without even a muffled cry, his mind going back to the slaver caravan. Please let Pansy and the children be far from here. Please not them. He could bear being enslaved again, but he thought he would die if he ever again had to see his children having their feet caned.
Re: {Nexus} Good League of Good LXXVII: Earth Vampires DON'T Sparkle!

Well, Echo can't do anything to prevent him by staying, and there's a possibility of help elsewhere, so the ghost turns and starts running into the main campsite.

Sophie begins to move when Vire does, so by the time he fires, she's managed to place herself out of the bullet's way and as a result, it catches her in the side rather than chest. Stiffling a cry, she raises her shotgun and fires off another shell in the direction of Vire's head, no longer caring to be nonlethal.

Vire twists out of the way as much as he can, but his feet act like they're glued to the ground; His shoulder and the side of his face are hit, his ear bearing the brunt of the damage. Blood running down his neck, he curses and lets loose with a hail of bullets, working his single action revolver as fast as he can, his aim somewhat impeded by his wounds.
Modar stands up and snarls. "Goddamn, I hate doing this." With a flick of his wrist, he flays his own back open, blood coating the whip. The leather tongue curls and shifts, the surface growing green and scaled. The long leather whip transforms into a snake, hissing and spitting, venom dripping from long hollow fangs. With a bellow, Modar wrenches his arm back and swings the snake whip. It stretches and incredible distance to strike at Sophie, the viper head swinging round to strike with fangs bared.
((The toxin is only mildly venomous, and is not capable of killing. Minor envenomation will only cause pain. Medium envenomation will cause muscle spasms. Heavy envenomation will cause paralysis.))

It's not immediately apparent that he's a vampire. He looks like a lanky young man of nineteen years. Straight, dark hair, plain clothing with a worn jacket over top. The pale skin and slightly large canines are the only indication of his vampirism at the moment.
"Ah, well. It was only mentioned as a joke." Valente looks at the drone, a bit curious.

Hey Echo! Look over there! There's a humongous, snow-white, regal she-wolf soundly sleeping right outside the door leading into the Maple Cabin. Echo may not be able to detect such things, but the wolf smells just like that sunbathing girl who accused him of trying to haunt her earlier. What was her name again? Oh yeah! Her name was Valaira or something like that. Meh. That doesn't much matter at current. She doesn't appear to be openly hostile toward anything nearby. She wouldn't be snoozing soundly if she was. That means that she could potentially be an ally, correct?

The words "Laurel, Magical Leaf!" and "Baaay!" can probably be heard before a cluster of black, pulsing, razor sharp leaves pass before Modar, hopefully knocking the snakewhip off course. The leaves came, of course, from the top of a Bayleef's head, with her young trainer standing beside her. The young girl wears a grey hooded coat and a mask to hide her face, but judging from her height and voice, she can't be more than thirteen. Not that that would matter to them, considering they are evil kidnappers and all that.
No matter what the leaves do, the girl will begin wiggling her fingers and muttering under her breath as soon as she is done giving the order to her pokemon.

With that Andy will head to the Lake and obviously ran into the [Lakeshore] thing.

These hatchets look nice. A little worn and used, but how much of What's arsenal isn't? They'll definitely go wondefully with the rest of the assassin's collection. Or maybe just one of them. Let's not be greedy, What. Save a hatchet for the poor wolf man whose hand you just ruined.

Waterstrider does the only thing he can think of to deflect the hatchet, having lost enough blood to make him too sluggish to get completely out of the way. He swings his injured paw down and knocks the weapon away, losing a piece of himself with it. He lets out a blood curdling howl of agony before running off towards the kitchen, clutching his stump and looking for something hot...

Re: {Nexus} Good League of Good LXXVII: Earth Vampires DON'T Sparkle!
[Main Cabin]
Olivia smiles at Renetta. The expression fades when the elf enjoys her soup, however. It looks good... but the vampire knows it'd taste like ash in her mouth. She looks wistfully at it, and then turns her gaze hungrily to the halfling. The vampiress' stare is very unnerving, especially with her fangs visible.
The fresh scent of blood, and bellows of pain, luckily distracts Olivia from the halfling. She peers out the window, though she's at a bad angle to it due to the sunlight streaming in.
"Someone's hurt..."

Renetta looks at Olivia with shock, then out the window. She sees Waterstrider approaching, obviously wounded. "Waterstrider!" She screams. The soup is hastily put down and the elf gets to her feet as quickly as she can manage. When he enters the building to rush to the kitchen she'll be following after him. "What happened? What's wrong?"
