Main Cabin/Kitchen

Waterstrider is moving quickly and doesn't respond with more than a feral growl. Renetta might know that at the moment he's little more than a wounded animal. The smell of flame attracts him however and he makes his way to the kitchen, leaving a trail of bright blood along the way. When he gets to the pot of soup, the Wolfen snarls and shoves the stump of his left wrist into the flame. He falls to his knees, holding his arm in the fire without a sound, fangs bared, ears back as the smell of burning fur and flesh begins to waft through the air.

Renetta hurries into the kitchen after him. When she sees what he's doing, she cries out and quickly turns away. As much as she wanted to go to him, despite his mental state, she couldn't stand to see that.

Lily keeps her lips firmly clamped shut and runs to find one of her parents. Her dad being currently tied up (

), it's mama she runs into first, Pansy already being on the way because of the howls and screams.

"Lily, take Renetta to the other room. Now." she says. She grabs a tea towel, wets it in the sink, and wraps it around Waterstrider's arm to keep the fur above the wound from catching fire.

Lily obediently tries to take Renetta's hand and pull her away.

Kitchen

Waterstrider growls and bares his teeth at Pansy, but doesn't snap when she puts the towel on him. After a moment longer, he seems to calm somewhat and withdraws his arm from the flame, revealing a blackened stub. It still oozes blood, but he's no longer at risk for dying from lack of it. He's still far from the Wolfen he was, still an animal, but he's not one that they'll have to worry about fighting off.

Through the pain and powerful smells, a scent seems to catch Waterstrider's nose, and he sniffs the air, ears and eyes flicking.

Renetta allows herself to be pulled away. Tears fall freely down her face. She saw enough to see the extent of Waterstrider's injury.

Lily tries to get Renetta to sit down, and then hugs her, also crying. Waterstrider and Pathfinder both helped to protect the halfling family when they were all enslaved together.

Kitchen

"Waterstrider, lay down," Pansy says, with all the authority of motherhood. "You can't go anywhere right now." And she tries, with all of her 3'4" of might to get the Wolfen to lay down on the kitchen floor.

Olivia has... vanished. Those paying very close attention to the vampire will probably have seen her slip away into some shadows. She's now hiding in an empty room away from the other people and biting deeply into her own arm to keep her blood-lust in check. The wolfen's bloody stump of a hand looked very appetizing to the half-starved vampire.

Aww, looks like he got away, What. You won't be able to kill Waterstrider this time, but at least you can take something valuable from him! Grab the paw he left behind, and then let's go right after Marley!

He couldn't have gotten far, right? I mean, he's just one tired little civilian trying to worm his way out of all that gauze and such. What's an assassin, an expert killer with a whole slew of terrible tricks up his sleeve, it shouldn't take long to finish this up, bludgeon Marley with his own cane, and then procure the blood samples. Yeah, there's no way that little wuss could possibly resist him now!

Actually, Marley can get pretty fair away, once he got the gauze loosen up enough. He didn't survive all those years as a bad con-man without learning how to run for it. Sure, he hasn't made to the main cabin yet, but he's nearly halfway there, using his cane as a support as he goes as fast as he can.

Waterstrider ignores Pansy and hunches down on his three good legs, sniffing the air once more before giving a soft whine and saddened look when he smells Mother-Soon's fear, sadness, and worry. He heads over to her, seeming to ignore the pain in his arm, and if able to, nuzzles her side gently to let her know that he's there and will be fine.

Drat, that could be trouble, then. Last thing What needs is more tears in his suit. Luckily he's got a hatchet on his hands, though! One of a pair of hatchets that have already twice proven themselves at hurting people from afar today!

FWOOSH! The hatchet sails through the air, intent on hitting Marley and sending him tumbling to the ground! What doesn't particularly care what sort of sorry state he leaves the target in, just so long as he procures the fresh blood and gets out before he can get in any more trouble with GLoG. Gods help anyone on the MURDER list who's actually supposed to die.

Renetta hugs Lily tight (though not so tight that she smothers the tiny child). The tears won't be stopping anytime soon.

Or will they? Her jumps a little when Waterstrider nuzzles her. "Waterstrider!" She looks at where his paw was. "Oh Waterstrider." She doesn't quite notice his odd behaviour.

Certainly no one from the Main Cabin is going to be helping. Olivia is hiding from her own bloodlust, Waterstrider is probably in shock, and the pregnant woman, little girl, and protective mother certainly aren't running out to face a monster that could cripple a Wolfen.

Marley's only hope is the fourth member of the halfling family:

Infirmary

About this time, Tito Applehill, the little halfling boy, runs into the Infirmary screaming. "Monster! Monster! Hurting people! Help!"

Main Cabin

Lily reaches out and touches Waterstrider's muzzle with her tiny hand.

[Just Outside of the Maple Cabin]

Valaira, currently in the form of a great, regal, snow-white she-wolf lazily opens up her right eye and glances at the chaos unfolding just in front of her. Wow. How the heck could she doze through all of this. She elevates her right eyebrow to a lofty position, an inquisitive expression settling upon her face and beholds the entirely uncalled for hatcheting of Marley.

Weird. Valaira isn't even intervening in this conflict. It's obviously all just a wacky dream anyway. Pumpkins don't wear tuxedos and hatchet people wrapped in gauze!

Geeze! ...

Quickly, What! Stab that wolf-thing! Leave no witnesses!

Tito points in the correct direction, through the wall. He's got a decent enough direction sense to do that, and he's not going back outside where the scary thing is, because scary. Also because his parents told him to run for a safe place if he sees anyone dangerous. "It hurt Waterstrider. It's a pumpkin monster." Presumably Tito has seen Irene around before, as well as the other camp ghosts, so he isn't afraid of her.

Better make this quick. What tries to plant a single foot on Marley's face to keep him down, and then proceeds to attempt to fill the syringes, drawing blood from a vein near the hatchet injury. He'd use a small bottle or something instead, since there's plenty of blood already spilled about his target's back, but decides to err on the side of caution. The person (probably a vampire) who gave MURDER the contract might turn out to be very picky about blood quality, and the last thing What wants to do is screw up the job now.

He would also like to steal that cane while he's here, but something about it looks wrong. He's pretty sure it was moving earlier, and while he can terrify just about any sentient being he cares to scare, magical items like that aren't quite clever enough to worry for their own safety. Besides, as soon as he's done drawing blood, he has to go. As in, right goddamn away. There are rumors about GLoG having god-tier warriors around, and What does not want to find out if those stories are true.

Waterstrider gives a bit of a pleased growl and tilts his head towards Lily to let her pet him easier, but when he hears Pansy's words, he gives her a bit of a glare and a weak growl before doing as told, laying down and curling around Renetta's feet protectively.

Wow. Just wow. This nightmare is wrong on so many levels. A cane with no wielder is beating the pumpkin monster over the head. It smells like someone's flesh and fur is alight. Didn't she hear gunshots going off just a few moments ago?

And then Valaira's nose begins twitching. It is disturbed. She sneezes. Achoo!

"Stay here." Irene says, going to float through the wall in the direction pointed. Once outside, she pulls up her flaming sword of totally able to cut corporeal stuff and cause it to burn. Also known as her only interaction with the physical world.

She takes a moment to figure out what's what due to her eye condition, but it seems most likely that the person lying on the ground is a victim and the person standing over them doing something or other is the perpetrator. "You! Stop right there!" Irene shouts, moving towards What.

On the other hand, if What does not actually have any body heat, then Irene just looks around, sword in hand and totally unsure as to where the monster is.

[Approaching Cherry Cabin]

God-Tier warriors, eh? Well, despite having a (surprisingly quiet) godlike being stuck in his head, Rae isn't quite one of those anymore. But he is a guy that has met What before, the last time he was in GLoG when he was trying to assassinate Riv. What might not remember, but Rae sort of lit him on fire with a flaming sword to the pumpkin. But anyways, enough reminiscing.

Rae was getting a little stir-crazy, spending most of his time tending to his pregnant wife in their cabin, taking care of his cat in his cabin, and taking care of his little sister in his cabin, so he decided to take a walk around the camp. At what appears to be the busiest and craziest time GLoG has had in a while. Huh. Well, everything but the pumpkin seemed to be on hold, so he'll pursue that thread! "Um... Yeah, I'm gonna have to ask you to stop assaulting that man, and to please surrender your weapons or whatever." ... Rae, why do you even think that has the tiniest chance of working? Eh, whatever, at least someone else had the idea too. He continues approaching What and Marley at a walking pace, hands in his pocket, not looking all that threatening.

After a few blows, most of which are blocked with What's arm, which holds fast against the cane's might, What decides he's had about enough of this. He puts his needles away now that he's done with that, and then abruptly grabs hold of the cane with both of his black-gloved hands. Expecting it to wobble and resist under his grip, he hurriedly positions it horizontally, so that he can then shove it down towards waist height while simultaneously lifting up his leg to snap the goddamn thing in half against his knee.

What is an assassin, a killer, a merciless avatar of death and horror. He kills, he maims, and he butchers. Mercy is not in his vocabulary, and he's sure as hell not going to extend any towards an inanimate object. Let's hope Marley knows a good cane repairman. Y'know, for when he's done recovering from the hatcher lodged in his back. Yeowch.

After that though, he's trying to run the fudging heck away, not so much as looking at Rae or Irene for even a moment. The only body heat on him would be from Marley's blood, which is probably liberally splattered all over What's gloved hands, his ruined sexy nurse disguise, and the fancy black suit underneath it.

Renetta frowns. He's acting strange, that's for certain. The elf slips out of her seat and goes to kneel beside the wolfen. "Waterstrider? It's going to be okay." She strokes just below his head gently. The tears have mostly stopped at this point.

It won't last too long though, before What ends up invisible to her and her ability to do anything to him becomes inept. I doubt she'll catch up to him in time. Least she doesn't get tired.

Tito finds a supply closet to hide in. He's very very scared.

Main Cabin

Pansy is also very scared. She doesn't know where her husband or son are at the moment and wants more than anything to go and find them and make sure they're safe. But she puts those fears aside. "Be careful. He's in shock. He may bite." she warns.

"He won't bite me," Lily says, with the conviction of childhood, and curls up on the floor against him, petting him gently. She and Waterstrider had been in adjoining cages in the caravan, and she had often clung to him through the bars for comfort.

Waterstrider lets the young girl lay on him, and finds his eyes suddenly very heavy, unable to keep them open for very long, and suddenly looks extremely worn and tired. Within moments his eyes close completely and don't reopen. His breathing is shallow, but it seems he'll make it.

Marley might find that great, ferocious she-wolf named Valaria padding up to his side and inspecting him intently (with her royal purple eyes).

"You need some medical assistance?"

There is a general element of overwhelming concern in her voice. She may have been late for the battle, but she sure can help mitigate its grotesquely negative effects!

Hopefully, that is.
