Indeed, 'tis a tuber tree. Wasn't completely my intention to draw it like that, but I'm sure there is a type of tree somewhere that is like that. (Looking back at it it looks to me almost like a zombie tree that died and now has some small new growths coming out; must be the graveyard setting). Also maybe the fact that I went to bed last night at five this morning; I'm a little addled right now (and very glad I had the day off).
That zombie looks really happy... I think he just got a promotion.

Day 78:
I really like doing the anatomy drawings, though this one is definitely not my best.

Second: Elmer Fudd, Pinkie Pie, and Sonic hugging Tails

Yeah, they do a good job of associating colour schemes with particular ponies. That or the mane/tail is usually enough to recognize one by (assuming you are familiar with the show of course). And that Twi/Jake thing is a little creepy (now I am trying to imagine what would happen if you merged their personalities).

Day 79:
"Short" of time today, 'cause I got cover letters to write. Really I'm just procrastinating though so it took a long time.

One day I'll learn better shading than "lines or no lines".

I did a few avatars for people. You'll probably see them when pirate week rolls around (Sept 16-22). Except Pokonic's which he has been wearing since I made it.
Pokonic:

Should've made the lines much thicker. You can barely see them on the avatar sized-version. I'll know for next time.

The tail should be going through his wings. I fixed it for the final avatar:

This is why I make sure to draw every day, even if most of the time its complete rubbish or I don't have the spare time to actually do anything proper (which is most days). Even if it isn't doing me much good if I don't have the opportunity to actually learn, its the sitting down and doing it that's important in my mind.
I promised myself that I'd get a magnificent hat one day. Strangely enough, I found that comic through ponies in the first place.

Day 81:
I took 41 pictures of this one, with different lighting and exposure setups, and not one managed to come out not blurry, so I gave up.

Day 85:
A head, done at an angle I had always figured would be challenging. Didn't turn out so terrible as I thought it might. He was going to have a massive handlebar mustache originally, but I went with a hat instead

Obviously tired, the last post by someone other than me was almost a week ago, so I wouldn't say they are coming back.
Don't think the red really works with Trixie, but I'm tired too, so maybe it will look different tomorrow.

Right now I can barely keep up with my own Drawthread, sorry about the lack of useful advice D:

See, just knock a bit and a few lurkers fall out. I think its just because September is a busy time of year. I know I've spent many an hour this last week writing job applications for the winter co-op term.

Doesn't look a damn thing like me. Save for my stupid hair.
What I've learned from this (apart from the fact that I have no clue how to do feet) is that being given a task to do works much better than simply trying to do something without prompting.
So here's the deal. I would like you guys to suggest things that I should draw. Then I will draw them. Then you will suggest more things, I will draw them, and so on. I'm hoping that this kind of thing will spur me on to action, instead of lazing around as I currently am.
Incidently, that first picture now applies to you all. Draw yourselves! Now!

The skull from my last doodle, in full resolution and as kawaii tsundere~:
Why would you ever draw in that position? It does look very uncomfortable.
Also, weird Japanese terms I don't understand. Google to the rescue!

Day 89:
Did an avatar for the avatar thread. Was lazy though, so I didn't sharpen my corners and only quickly did the shield and sword. Luckily all that should disappear when it shrinks down. (Also got some weird white outline when I changed it into a png).

Hmm, eye sockets are a little too big and close together, the jaw bones could stand to be higher, and once again I think I've drawn it too narrow.
Otherwise, quite happy with it.
Looks like a valiant effort. IMO you should do several quick ones composed of the degenerate shapes until you get the right proportions and positions (I'm one to talk because I almost never draw from models and references... but that's how I'd go about it) before jumping off of that to get the contours in.
Getting spatial relations and proportions right (or look believable) is the most important thing in drawing (i.e., before dealing with values, color, and texture) I think, more important than the little details and definition.

I think I've improved a bit since I started posting in this thread over four months ago (back when there was lots of activity!), and I could attribute that partly to it, so yeah!

Flatness is something I have always had trouble with, so yeah, I agree.
Those painted versions of Elan and Haley are weird. The characters just don't look right without their round cartoony heads to me.

What makes you think I can even draw a horse? I can barely do the marshmellow ones.

Actually didn't turn out soo bad. Looks vaguely more evil than most horses though. And the fact that once again the image quality sucks.

Thanks. I think I'll try some skulls tomorrow, working on the basic shapes, as you say.

Not making it easy, eh? Good. I think I need to be pushed out of my comfort zone.
Spoiler
Based on:
Today I have learned:
Horses are very buff in the chest.
Horses have skinny legs.
I have difficulty drawing those legs. I think I got the positions about right in the end, but getting the shape and general thickness is very tough.
Not a bad first try, though I think I'll give this another go soon. Perhaps tomorrow, after the skulls.

Hmm took a look at that site finally and saw they had regular drawing tutorials as well. I'll maybe take a look at those when I have time.

The proportions are still a bit off, mainly on the front facing one, the unevenness of the singe lines is distracting to me. I think that correcting the asymmetries (esp. in the cranium, jaw, teeth and eye sockets) would do a lot to improve the general look. The side one looks a lot better, though you didn't follow your outline very well for the front of the teeth/chin, thus giving it a large underbite.

Of course, I'm one to talk, with my own head that has the proportions messed up. Behold.
