Why not both? He fought in the Bear Wars, but afterwards tried to settle into civilian life. He went to Route 13 U and joined the local frat house. He's been there ever since, taking only a handful of credits a year in order to stay enrolled.

So, just to summarize the Snorlax idea and add in some more hillarity,
[Name still up for debate] was a heavy assault/demolitions unit in the Bear Wars, where he struck fear into many an anti-bear trooper, most just before they died. During the War, (s)he killed Bumbles' grandfather, and lost his/her best friend to a crazy Ekans named Grumbles. After the war, [Name] took his/herr entitlement from the BI Bill*, and joined a college, hoping to get a degree in gourmet cooking. However, [Name] also joined the local frat house, and following a rather wild party, had a wee bit too much to drink (which is quite a lot, considering Snorlax' body mass), and fell drunk in the street on Route 12.
[Name] suffers slightly from PTSD, but is actually very active for a Snorlax, taking daily two mile runs to stay in shape. Speaks very highly of the Bear Cause, and is convinced that one day, the Bears shall rise again and finish what they started.

Scyther: Gears - Deeply interested in clocks and how they work, ever since someone dropped a wind-up clock while touring the Safari Zone. Thinks of him/herself as a sort of Renaissance man, dabbling in everything. His/her goal in life is to have opposable thumbs, so that he/she can work more in depth with the interesting things that turn up now and then.
Chansey: Nurse Ratchet - A sadistic pokemon that entered the medical field due to a love of cutting things without legal repercussions. Will heal you, but only if you beg, or if she is ordered to by a direct superior.
Ryhorn: Tank - Struggling actor, trying to find his/her breakout role, and fight off a calcium addiction. Currently his/her only role has been an uncredited role as "that ryhorn that wandered into the background that we decided not to edit out", but s/he will talk about that gig day and night if you let him/her.
Kangaskhan: Doubloon - A mixture of Genghis Khan and an overly stereotypical Australian. You'll never know what s/he will kill you over: vegimite or plunder.
Oh yes, and I vote mostly going for the land pokemon, though a dragonair would be nice....but still, I'd rather a scyther or a ryhorn to that.
Exeggute: Eeyore - A hivemind of sentient eggs, the only thing they are truly aware of is just how bad they have it. A slight fall, or roll, or even movement on the wrong surface could mean death, most trainers who catch them end up eating them, and, if they survive through the entire ordeal, their great reward is becoming a giant clumsy pineapple with no arms. Personality: much like Eeyore's from Winny the Pooh, just with eggs/pineapple instead of a donkey.
Pinsir: Clamps - An up and coming member of the poke-mafia, if you get in his way, he'll give you the clamps!
Dratini/Dragonair: Merlin - A kind of dickish pokemon that likes to play pranks on and torment just about everyone that isn't him/her. Tells all the pokemon around that s/he is a mystic, and has great powers, and due to his/her natural charisma, it usually works.
Poliwag: Arthur - Believes he was caught by the legendary "Hook in the Pond", and that he was chosen for greatness. Mind you, this might be because Merlin told him that only the truly great and wise would be able to reach the surface world from a rod...

Well you see a seaking pins a weaker seaking with it's horn to a rock wall, then he drags the body over to me, or another female seaking. If I like the gift I start to consume the pinned seaking. The screams of agony as he's devoured alive are processed by the brain to tell my eggs to start flowing. Which are then made into fertile eggs and put in the weaker seaking's body. Then me and my mate rip apart anything that could be used for locomotion, and then treat the wounds.
Okay A Why would you treat the wounds? B How are they still alive?
Well that way the babies can have a first meal. They hatch and devour the weaker seaking from the inside out. Yeah I'm told the agony is so bad that if they come back as ghost they still feel it.

In addition after that we have reserves grinding. Grumbles 2, Grumbles, Paddington, Kelk, Fluff, Arthur, and Jack are instantly selected. I will grind the reserves to the party's level or to level 43 which ever is lower.
