Wait, did our Mysterious Stranger just stop time? Wendy and Adam seem to have motion lines, but their positions don't denote movement, while in contrast, Mr. Mysterious doesn't have movement lines, but is in a position that should have them. Looking at it, I can't help but get the impression that the audience's perception of time is different from the characters actually in the scene. Especially considering panel 4 and the movement lines around our villain.

I wonder if there is going to be someone who can use all the elements, avatar style.
Given that it's a card system, you should be able to but given the number of elements in the system a "rainbow" deck would be pretty unwieldy to carry around.

Well the card used seems to float so it wouldn't be that much of a problem. I'm quite eager to see someone invent/discover multi-elemental effects.

Admittedly, it took my a second read to get it, but it looks like Stutter Du-Dude attacked with the totem-pole thingies (Ancestor's Elder Spires) but Douche-hawk blocked the attack with the toothy-looking things (Earthshape: Clay).
I'm really loving the stutter, by the way. It's a really nice detail, somehow.

Assuming those are the "tectonic phantasms," I'd guess Earth. Of course, I'd also guess that clay manipulation falls under Earth, too. I suppose there are more limits on one's power than simply the element of your card.

Another little detail I like is how he doesn't stutter when he's casting. I've heard lots of stutterers don't stutter when singing or speaking in a non-normal voice.
...Also, holy crap, what's wrong with Dalton's eyes in panel 1?

So I guess there's multiple "miracles" within an element, and then when you use a thamacard of that miracle, it can take different forms?
Cool.

Seems logical, given what the old guy with the punny name told us: Each sopher has their own take on the deeper meanings of their element. Maybe the varying approaches shape how they manifest the powers of that element?

If you look closely at the 4th panel on page 11 and on the last on page twelve or the 3rd on page 13, you'll notice that both cards depict the same thing, which seems to be a rock or mountain, so your guess seems to be correct)

Hmm, does he mean impossible as in what just happened is considered impossible by general consensus. Or impossible as in: "Holy ****, what did I get myself into? This guy is way tougher than I thought."

Impossible as in inconceivable!.
Now we know, that mastering more then one element is entirely possible. The three-of-a-kind comment takes the card theme in an interesting direction.

More like "Impossible, nobody that lives here is that strong."
He didn't realize that it wasn't a local beating the tar out of him.

So our title page is not one who's just getting INTO it, while the supporting characters are already immersed in this stuff; Rather, the supporting characters are the novices, or novice, since is a novice, and TPC is already a MASTER.
Three-of-a-kind, 17 syllables...
Alright; What of a miracle-pair? Say, two thunderbolt cards (I see one in the BG in the title page). The number of syllables is important.
Say, I pulled two thunderbolts, and chanted
"Blazing Rod, Straight and tall;
Strike the clouds, bring their fall."
I'm not a sopher, but that would be a 12 syllable chant. I assume, though, that that's not really a chant a sopher would use for a miracle. But would that be close to what happens?
What happens when you mix elements? Say, a miracle using both a flame and... I can't think of what element that card that looks like a hoof might be for. Maybe that's... yeah, that's the mind card, isn't it. So, If you had a miracle with both fire+mind element cards, what might the chant be? What might the effect be?

This isn't that kind of a fight really, it's an establishing fight, to set up just how powerful our title character is. Not to show off how the system works.
