Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
"Same here, but at least we have this" he said, gingerly lifting the device. "Now what say we arrange a welcome party for them? Imsure Aly can get her guests to joine her. Besides I have a fun idea for the lighting"
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Spoiler
So, are the three of you going to attempt to enter the captain's room (and which room do you presume it to be, by the way)? Or is Aly going to wait in her room while Mattock and Jack enter the room?
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Spoiler
well that's up to Aly I think, I vote for her to be in her room or however she decides to distract a few. And I'm assuming that its the one with the chair in front of it haha
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Spoiler
Alright, the room at the end of the hall that one of the soldiers was guarding. Room number 13, by the way.
Will you be carrying a light source? It'll make you easier to spot, of course, but you won't have to make Mobility checks for moving in total darkness, and it'll be easier to pick the lock if the door happens to be locked.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
"I'll meet you in their room, Jack. I'm gonna get my crossbow." Sabre gropes his way down to the room he and Jack had been staying in, and tossed his crossbow back under his cloak. Then he proceeds to walk slowly down towards the Captain's room.
"So... now you have a plan too, huh?"

Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Mattock gets his crossbow, and he and Jack walk slowly towards the room at the end of the hall while Aly remains in her room. Jack keeps his eyes and ears peeled but detects no signs of trouble.
You make it to the door to room number 13 which you presume to be the captain's room.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
He grabs the candle that was still burning in his room "Well its more like your plan to kill them, with a tactical addititon" he said "and since were alone up here for the next 30 mins I think we have time to prepare the battlefield."
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Spoiler
Attempting to pick a lock takes one round which is ... about 5-10 seconds. If you try to open a lock several times, just make all the rolls in one post to avoid double, triple or quadruple posting.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack tries and tries, but cannot open the lock. When he finally thinks he's figured out the lock, he hears a loud crack from the room, and somethng that sounds like shattering glass...
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
"Figures you little whip-snappers would make this more complicated than it has to be..." Mattock pushes Jack out of the way, draws his sword, and pushes the door open, ready for anything...
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Spoiler
Struggling with a lock isn't very epic, so I'm going to rule that you manage to open the lock and enter the room.
Mattock and Jack enter the room. There's the smell of a recently snuffed candle hanging in the air, mixed with the smell of rain. The window has been hastily pried open, and the wooden frame that held the glass panels is now lying on the floor, shattered glass around it. Except for moonlight pouring in, it's dark in the room. Whoever was in the room apparently managed to slip outside moments before you entered, and is now making an awful racket by walking on the slippery tiles on the roof.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
"Gods that's a lot of noise!" Jack angrily mumbled. He went to the window and looked towards the roof, while listening for activity downstairs and in the hall.
Spoiler
Awareness (1d20+4)[11]
Mobility to check the TN for climbing to the roof with my bow in the quiver (1d20+4)[21]
Ps thanks for letting us in haha
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
The wet slate tiles look rather precarious to walk on (TN 15 to walk normally, or TN 10 if you use your hands to support yourself and move at half speed.)
Jack spots the man, he's not very far. You can get a pretty clear shot if you want to shoot him with your bow.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Spoiler
did I hear any guards coming up the stairs or in the hall? Also what does he look like? I don't want to shoot someone who was obviously a captive or something.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack heard no-one coming up the stairs. Not yet, anyway. The racket's been going on for just 10 seconds, so it might take a while until any guards or inn personnel come upstairs to check out what is going on.
The man looks like an Invictus soldier. He's wearing the typical brigandine armor of light infantry troops, with symbols of Invictus on it.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
"Die you dog." Jack hisses as he draws his bow back. He said a quick prayer to whatever gods may be listening,May my arrow fly true and end the life of this foul man., then he let it go.
Spoiler
Archery (1d20+10)[21]
Does the bonus for multiple attacks on one person cancel out the penalty for multiple attacks?
If so then (1d20+10)[12], if not (1d20+6)[16]
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack nocks an arrow, aims, and fires. The arrow sinks in the man's back. He tries to pull it out, but loses his balance and rolls off the roof and falls to the ground.
Spoiler
The bonus applies only when there are multiple attackers vs single target, not when you attack the same foe twice.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Spoiler
is it safe to assume he's dead? Haha id hate for him to somehow mess things up. I figured that it wouldn't stack, but a guy can dream
Jack smiles to himself, enjoying the irony of being taught how to use a bow by the Invictus. "Ok now we do your plan. How'd it go? I shoot the guy then we kill them all and tie up the captain?" he says as he places his candle at head height right in front of the door. "We don't have much time before they get here so we should get ready." He retreats to the back of the room and knocks another arrow while trying to hide in the shadows.
Spoiler
the idea for the candle is this: have you ever had a campfire? If so then you'll know that your eyes adjust to the light so you can't see into the shadows around you very well and its almost impossible to see the otherside over the fire. But everyone in the shadows can see you very well because your so close to the light. When the guards come in they can't see us in the shadows, but we can see them.
Stealth to hide even more (1d20+6)[18] and hopefully a decent circumstance bonus?
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
It's safe to assume he's dead. So, Jack and Mattock stay in the room, ready to attack them when they come to check out what's going on? Aly heard some noise from the roof. Is she going to stay in her room?
