Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack runs and dives towards the window... and smashes his face agaisnt the glass. After falling on the ground he gets up and shakes himself off. "On second thought ill go get Aly..." he walks awaky from the window slightly embarrased to her room.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack knocks and opens the door to Aly's room. "You ready to pretend to be a damsal in distress?" he asks while rubbing the slowly forming lump on his forehead.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
The Old Man peers around, making sure no one is lurking about to notice him leaving the room. He lets one end of the rope out the open window, and then climbs out.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
The windows are not meant to be opened by the customers, so it requires some violence or Gadgetry to open one. Whether you climb down or take the stairs, by the time you get downstairs, you notice that both the receptionist and Von Richter have left. To capture the captain, you'll have to track him (Awareness) or just make a guess which way he went.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack, realizing how long they have been upstairs and that the noises have stopped, says, "On second thought we should just go. There's not exactly a lot of time to spare." without waiting for a reply he heads downstairs and begins looking for where they went.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
After "gently" encouraging the window to open, Mattock Sabre finds himself outside the inn, in the dark of the night. He searches for some sign of where the Captain went, although he has a pretty good idea.
In the end, he heads to the stable, reasoning that the Captain would want to escape as quickly as possible. That, and the Old Man's leg was starting to bother him, and he'd like to get ahorse as soon as possible. He never felt as alive as he did in the saddle.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack confirms Mattock's guess that the captain went to get his horse. The tracks he left in the mud indeed lead to the stable. The stable boy, who looks like he's been awakened a minute ago notices you as you approach the door. "No, no, you can't go in there..."
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack sees the tracks in the mud leading to the stable. Whe he gets outside he looks towards the stable and sees that Mattock somehow beat him out. He starts walking to the stable and gets there just in time to hear the boy talk. "And why is that?" Jack says icily as he steps out of the shadows into the boys view.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
"I'm really sorry boy but we don't have time for this." Jack gives Mattock a look ttry and warn him of what he's about to do, then he grabs his bow from his quiver and swings it like a club to knock the boy out.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
The boy's eyes widen as Jack steps forward to club him with the bow. The boy merely steps backwards to avoid the attack. "You're insane!" he quips and runs off.
You can hear the clatter of hooves approaching the door.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
"We should probably move..." Jack says and steps aside out of the the way of the door and whatever might come through. He draws an arrow and gets ready to greet the Captain.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Mattock dodges away from the door, drawing his sword to cut the captain's saddle girth. He's only done it once before, but if it works, Jack is gonna be buying drinks for a year...
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack drew two arrows and fired them both in rapid succession. The first at the captains leg to try to pin him to the horse, the second into the horse to kill it.
Spoiler
Archery (1d20+10)[30]
2nd shot (1d20+6)[9]
EDIT: woo crit! Anything special happen? Or just a success haha
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
With a "Ha!", the captain urges the horse forward and past Jack and Mattock. Jack fires his bow twice: The first arrow pins the captain's leg to the horse, but the second arrow misses the horse by a few feet.
The captain wails in pain, but the horse continues running along the road. The captain's already too far to run up to him and make a melee attack against him or the horse...
Spoiler
By the way, the -4 penalty applies to both attacks, not just the second one. But the first attack was still clearly a hit.
It's Mattock's turn, then the captain's, and then Jack's.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Alyera dashes out of the door, and aprises the situation in an instant.
"THIS CALLS FOR GENIUS!" she yells, part for fun, part to distract the captain.
In another moment, her spring-loaded contraption is out of her pack and on the ground, braced on one side against solid earth, and the other side flinging the largest rock at hand.
Spoiler
Not sure how this will work... perhaps my previous Gadgetry check is equal to this thing's archery/mobility check?
Finally tryin' to do something for y'all.

Bloody, sodding hell!" Mattock shouts, in addition to some further curses it's more difficult to spell. He rushes into the stable and grabs the first decent horse he sees, trusting to his trained eye for horse flesh. "I always hated riding bare-backed..."

Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Let's see what Aly's device does. As mentioned before, there's a chance something unpredictable, potentially dangerous may happen. This is basically a luck roll.
Re: Clandestine Operations playtest - "the Garrote"
Jack calms himself and fires another shot. As soon as it jumped away from him he yelled to The Old Man, "Hey swing past me so I can catch a ride!" Then Aly comes running out yelling and screaming. He sees what she's doing and chuckles to himself, admiring her ingenuity. Then things went wrong. The device jumped and bucked towards her. Cold dread washed over Jack.

oops for got to roll haha (1d20+10)[27] its at his horse by the way.
And when I was asking to catch a ride I meant like you ride past and I grab on and climb up so you don't have to stop. Good luck dodging Aly! My fingers are crossed.
