Hey everybody, I guess I'm one of the new recruits. My character sheet is here. I'm not really sure when and where I should enter, I'm still reading through the archives. Are you going to do some kind of lead in for the new players and start them in the same place, or what? I also hope you don't mind that I put my character's master in the town, if you have a problem with that just PM me and we can work it out.

On your sheet, you've maxed out 3 skills but how do you have so many skill points with the negative intelligence modifier? Unless I'm missing something, commoners get 2 per level (x4 at level 1). Nymph's Kiss should give you one skill point and your int modifier takes 4 away. I'm sorry if you have some reason that I missed, but I looked over it twice and couldn't find an explanation.
So for the dog training, I make one check (per dog) and then after a set period of time in game, I learn if it worked or not? So how long would this be then?
Also, does Keharn get boarding at the Barracks?

New player. Posted the character sheet on the recruitment thread (the new one, not the old one). Sent the requisite PM to the GM. I'll wait for 'official approval' before making my first post in the IC thread.
Hope to join with you all soon.

Posting schedule. The DM needs to set the standard here, otherwise we'll all drop out due to the storyline not progressing just because a few folks aren't posting. My suggestion: Make this either daily or every other day. If someone doesn't post, they get ignored (or played by the DM if it's a combat situation). It takes 3-4 minutes to draft a basic post... maybe 10 minutes for a really good one. This is not asking a lot from your 24 hours every day.
Some background. What is the name of this town? What kinds of businesses are there (temple, hedge wizard, militia field, town hall, etc.)? Is it in a larger nation? Who are the key people in the town? Can you draft up a map of the area (even a rough sketch is fine)? Also, what is today's date (things like weather and seasons might come into play)? We did prep work on our PCs for you, we need you to share your prep work on this campaign with us.
Hooks. I'm all for playing the daily life of a commoner, that's why I joined this game. If you have something adventurous for us to undertake, you need to leave an obvious hook to it. We may pick it up or leave it for a bit while we get settled. Though, without a hook... we'll never find that abandoned temple in the swamp.
Personal Stuff. Everything else was for the benefit of the whole group. This is for me. Tomorrow my character wants to set some snares in the morning to catch some small game. He'll check them again this evening. How much time will this take and do you want me to make a survival check (+5) for it?
Also, a final note about perform checks. 3d10 silver is for a Great Performance in a prosperous city. A small village of 800 people hardly qualifies. Not that I begrudge good performances, but we're peasants in a small backwater town. Most of the folks in the Inn use silvers as serious currency, not pocket change. Part of the fun is the struggle.

Never got an answer to this, so I guess I'll bring it up again.
@ RPGAgmJAY: I did the 3d10 because the merchants where in the tavern, they provided a lot of it. I understand hooks, I know you might no catch on immediately, I don't need you to. This is more sandbox than anything else currently. Knowledge would be required, currently almost all of you are foreigners that arrived a few days ago. The town is named Tharrenville, I mentioned it on page 7, sorry for not putting it somewhere more visible. They all where coming in for the first time around then. I think a once per two day posting schedule would be a good idea, provided you have something to post. Some of the skills people are using or jobs they are working take a full day. Who here is from this town? The people that are from here will know more than the people that don't, though knowledge checks could allow you to learn it.
I'm not sure about how you set snares, survival could work, so could profession (hunter or trapper) or use rope.

Couldn't be happier. Love a sandbox and like I said earlier, playing the life of a commoner is a draw all by itself.
As for the snares, I've got survival... I just need you to devise the rules behind my success/failure and what my snares might catch. I plan on eating the meat and selling the furs.
My PC isn't from the town but I'll either walk through it or pay a few coppers to a kid who can give me a tour. Either way, a map of the place would be helpful. If not, a write up with the highlights would be good too.

Hobbitkniver: Yes they do, sorry for not addressing it, slipped my mind.
RPGAgmJAY: Use rope and survival, survival opposed by spot, used rope opposed by escape artist. I don't think I can do a map that I will be satisfied with.
Tharrenville's, a brief summary:
Spoiler
Tharrenville is a small town of about 870 people, it has a low crime rate and people are happy. It is on the outskirts of lord Harrenjard's fief. Harrenjard spend most of his time in the capital, working on advancing in the political ranks. His advisers run day to day affairs. Tharrenville has a temple to Pelor, Fharlanghn, and Elhohona though no display of magic performed by the priests has been witnessed in the last ten years. There is a wizard that lives in a small estate by the edge of town. There is a theater, located to the north of town square with a small staff. People tend to farm the surrounding land or hunt at the edges of the forest. The town hall is to the west side of town square where the government acts locally from.

Sounds good. When we start our next day I'll make a survival roll for the snares I set. I'll set as many as I can manage within a 2 hour period early in the morning.
For the record, Aerin will still sleep up in the loft above the stables where the hay is kept.
That said, are we about set for the evening? Ready to call the next day?
