Houserules
Spoiler
Houserules I'm a fan of:
*Crafting* =For crafting, use IQ HB crafting rules. However, alter the material cost:
Take 35% of the item being crafted as a base cost + 5d10% in additional cost. This will make crafting something cost anywhere from 40-85% of the item for just the materials to craft it yourself. For particularly large or complex items, I reserve the right to extend this.
From Black Crusade: Attack Modifiers:
-Standard Melee/Ranged Attacks get +10
-Swift Attack and Semi-Automatic Fire get +0 and an additional hit is scored for every two DoS
-Lightning Attack and Fully Automatic Fire get -10 and an additional hit is scored for every one DoS
-Swift & Lightning Attacks are Half Actions. Semi & Full Auto Fire are Half Actions.
-Suppressive Fire and setting up an Overwatch are Full Actions
-Charges can end in a Standard Attack, Swift Attack, or All-Out Attack. All of these gain +20 WS from the charge.
-All-Out Attacks gain +30 WS.
Houserule: Accurate weapons give an extra d5, rather than a d10, for their bonus damage per two DoS.
From Black Crusade: Lasgun variable setting: Certain patterns of lasguns have a variable setting option, allowing them to fire higher powered
bursts. Lasguns may be fired on overcharge mode, dealing +1 Damage but using two shots worth of ammunition per shot fired. Additionally, they may be fired on overload mode, dealing +2 Damage and gaining +2 Penetration. In this case they use four shots worth of ammunition per shot fired, lose Reliable, and gain Unreliable.
This replaces the overcharge pack option but leaves Hotshots on the table.
From Ascension: Fettered/Unfettered/Pushed rules are allowed for psychic powers. Despite it being fitting and representative of the powers in question, I'm not a fan of a possible warp incursion due to a psyker casting some minor power.
From Houserule: Corpus Conversion
One can voluntarily take 3 dmg to increase his next power roll by d10. This is a free action and can be done up to a number of times in a round equal to his WP Bonus. Obviously, death will close in if this is overdone. Additionally, if the extra d10 rolled is a 10, that psyker permanently loses 1 point of Toughness.
From Houserule: If your career/origin has a Trade (xyz) skill that you can reasonably explain why it should be a different one, please feel free. There's too many copyists in the galaxy.
Please note I've changed the above Houserules for the last time. I did away with the jury rigged RT rule mashed with the BC rules and just imported the BC rules. In other words, multi-attacks are Half Actions. I've also added some key points from BC above to consider like charge etc. IF there's any questions on a particular, ask away and I'll expand for anyone who doesn't have a copy of BC. Lastly, note the houserule on Accurate weapons. This is help give both sides a fighting chance against weapons that make a mockery of a character's soak. It is less realistic, but in return all of you are being given a fighting chance.
Ok, enough of rules! Let's get the story started.
GAME TIME
Each of you now have access to the Task Force directive from the Book of Judgement (p58). The induction cost is waived and the Manhunt target is Heretical. Additionally, each of you receive:
- Secret Tongue (Acolyte) for free. If you already purchased this, refund the xp.
Add Ciphers (Acolyte) to the Directive above for a cost of 100/200/300 for Trained/+10/+20 respectively. Tests will only be necessary when under duress or if the code is damaged for ciphers and secret tongue.
Lastly, each of you gain 500xp to be spent prior to beginning.
*Note that I've updated the above houserules for the last time.
ASSETS
- Valkyrie w/Landing Pad in the Southlows ; Paid through the month
- Access to the Tricorn ; Able to utilize 'Credit'
Access via 'Credit' to Tricorn services: Medical, Librarium, Workshops
- (Pyrrhus Only) Nikolaos Augustin, Munitorum Quastor - a low-ranking adept in service to the logistics wing of the Imperial guard. Provides 10% discount on explosive materials, and reduces availability by 2 degrees.
Born on the hive world of Cantus, it is not known outside the inner circles of the Lathes at what age Septimus Shryke was inducted into the Acuitor Set. Perhaps it was that he was more personable than his fellow mech-wrights, more ready to dissemble and mislead; perhaps it was that he had a natural propensity for murder. Quite possibly, it was both.
Generally assuming the role of some middle-ranking tech-priest, Shryke would insert himself quietly into organisations and societies in which the Cult Mechanicus felt they had enemies. Imperial society is dependent on its technology, and Shryke exploited this dependence to the full. No-one questions the repair-man, the maintenance crew, the inspecting enginseer. Moving unseen through his environment, he would silently carry out his investigations, maintaining his cover until he could identify his target.
The methods used by the Acuitors vary widely. Shryke's complete kill-list will probably never be known, but from those deaths which have been linked to the tech-priest, a theme of technological sabotage becomes apparent. On Landunder, the Arcellan dynasty were annihilated when the cogitators controlling their deep-water airlocks developed an inexplicable fault, flooding their penthouse with some six hundred tons of pressurised sea-water. On Lathe-Het, the Malatek Janus Ormulate was killed by a fatal dose of radiation when the safeguards on his experimental reactor mysteriously failed, sealing him and four of his assistants inside during a supposedly routine inspection. On Tsade II, an automated omni-harvester took an unplanned detour from its programmed route to rip through a meeting of the Metcalfe trade consortium, and on Cantus an unknown number of civilians died in a malfunction of the ventilation systems on the Hive Augusta deep rail, now known as the Great Asphyxiation.
The change in Septimus' career path came when pursuing another target: a House Krin banker whose financial activities were endangering the productivity of the Lathes. Shryke had identified the culprit, and was ready to strike, when he realised he was not the only agent on the financier's trail. Wishing to leave no loose ends, he set a trap for his opposite numbers: it was only when they anticipated the “accident” in the Servitor depot and caught him in the act that he realised he might have met his match.
His opposite numbers were acolytes of Inquisitor Glavius Wroth, investigating the banker for crimes far darker than his sins against the Mechanicus. Once it had been established that their captive was not an agent of their enemy, Wroth immediately saw the potential in Shryke: not only was the tech-priest a powerfully intelligent infiltrator, but he was also a window into the secret heart of the Mechanicus. Shryke was offered a choice: accept the consequences of his attack on Inquisition personnel, or accept that he was forever in Wroth's debt. It wasn't much of a choice.
Wroth requested Shryke's services without any hint that he knew of the tech-priest's secret profession: not desiring to attract attention by a mysterious refusal, the Lathes accepted. Shryke now lives a double life, serving two masters: the Inquisitor, and the directives of the Acuitor Set. With every assignation he accepts from Wroth, he knows he risks betraying the secrets of his priesthood to the Inquisition; at the same time, as a keenly intelligent man, he cannot resist the challenge of Inquisition work.
Despite his acolyte's emotionless facade, Wroth sees this clearly. Manipulating Septimus' boredom and curiosity, he has the tech-priest in the palm of his hand.
Im going to make some minor edits to clean out some of the chargen info i leeft in to make it easier to keep track and add up the bonuses from my gear, the sheet its self (the talents/skills/stats) will remain the same, its mostly so i dont go insane trying to keep it all in my head XD Babble

The operation when off without a hitch, but I cant help but think, is kidnapping some kid from a Schola really the best use of my skills? (Yes, I know your reading this boss, some how, and I'm sure it all for the good, but some elaboration might be nice from time to time.) We infiltrated the grounds, entered the girls dormitory, snatched the target, and brought her to the drop off point. By the time the sleeping drug wears off, the ship should be in the warp, or near as to it.
I've seen her file, and its easy to see why the Administratum wanted her, and why the Inquisition is going to get her, but I cant help but feel this whole affair was premature, shes not a Autosavant yet, And I cannot imagine that it wouldnt simply have been easier (and less creepy) to just silence the medic and have his 'recommendation' buried. As it is, she'll probably end up dead, or worse, long before her talents mature to the point of warranting this level of attention.
But its out of my hands now. Maybe next time I'll have to hunt down some fluffy bunny rabbits, 'eh boss?

After I got injured, I assumed that this post running orientation for new operatives was a well earned retirement, but I am increasingly beginning to suspect my lord takes some perverse pleasure in trying my few remaining nerves.
The rookie this time is a thirteen year old girl, apparently kidnapped right out a schola dormitory while she was sleeping. Sufficed to say she was unreceptive, and I admit to being little boggled myself. I cant only assume she has some trait that I've yet to notice that warrants such cruel treatment... and she better not be a psyker. I was able to coax her out with a good dinner, so at leased I've got her talking now, its two months to our destination, where she will be handed over to a cell... hopefully I'll beable to get her ready before then.

Jo called me Babble again, I think the nickname is starting to catch on... its better than 'little girl' so I cant complain too much. I think the smoking helped too, the pipe makes me look mature.
I'm started to get used to working for the Inquisition.. if thats really who were working for, I still find it hard to believe sometimes, but the things we face... its just as hard to imagine anyone else could find so many horrible things to point us at. I'm not so good in a fight, not like Lana, shes almost my age but no one treats her like a child... and shed probably kill them if they tried. She grew up in a freaky murder cult apparently. But I've learned to play to my strengths, none of the others seems to know as much as I do, I swear, sometimes its like talking to juniors. So I stick to my brains, and carry a big enough gun that I dont have to be too accurate to bring things down.
Of all the horrible things weve seen and done.. For me its all worth it, for the opportunities to learn new things... so much I would never have known had I not been taken, even thinking about it makes me feel sick. But when I consider how much I have yet to learn.... I feel like I could take on Chaos its self for the chance.

Spoiler
Marcus is a serious man, around 35 standard imperial years old, tall and quite thin. He usually wears his uniform or standard civilian clothes, high reinforced boots and his long, black mesh combat cloak, which also serves him as a coat, apart from the increased protection - with the added benefit of minimum encumbrance and easier concealment - it offers him. His various weapons and pieces of equipment are fitted in pockets either in his uniform or his coat and when increased danger is expected, his trusted lasgun can be seen, hanging by its leather strap from his shoulder, sometimes even concealed inside his cloak.
His look is grim at most times, though he has admittedly a soft spot for pretty ladies and a glass of good amasec, both of which tend to cheer him up quite a bit. He also enjoys good company and the occassional joke. He was quite popular in his precinct and while most of his colleagues knew that he had a relatively low nonsense tolerance threshold, he could be trusted like no other to provide support and guarantee their safety in the thick of combat.
Having his character forged up in dangerous conditions he remains a bit on edge even today, the look on his blue eyes sharp as a mono-sword, being evident of this. After all he has witnessed, few things can impress him genuinely. He's methodical and mostly calm as his mentor in the Adeptus Arbites taught him, yet he can become pretty "convincing" when his patience runs out.
Character Concept
Spoiler
A hardened Arbitrator, with shrouded origins, troubled beginnings and various "hard cases" under his belt, he was always a person to research deeply and thoroughly before drawing his conclusion, even though he never hesitated to take decisive action when the situation required it. As years passed, he displayed an uncanny ability to stay out of harm's way, despite being at the thick of battle over and over. Some would say mere luck or perhaps incompetence, but he said "The Emperor protects" and his pristine record of solved cases and thorough investigations left nothing but just unfounded rumours. During his service, first as an Arbitrator, then as a Warden of the Divisio Immoralis and finally as an Inquisitorial Acolyte, he witnessed many things that would shatter the souls of lesser men, yet he endured and patiently continued, keeping always in mind his duties to the Immortal God Emperor and to the Imperium as a whole.

+++Calixis Sector - Segmentum Obscurus+++
+++Location Undisclosed.+++
Pict-source surveys a dimly lit corridor...indeterminate amount of time passes...Footsteps heard, a figure approaches. Tall, hooded, facial recognition not possible, even by zooming in. Holds a cane in left hand, visibly limping and using it to steady himself... Figure approaches door marked 57-B in corridor produces a key from inside his robes and unlocks the door, entering the room...
....5 minutes pass with no return from pict-source...image then reappears, blurry at start, gets clearer after a while... The subject is sitting behind a desk, hood drawn back. Identity verified, subject is <expunged by Decree of the Inquisition - Ordos Calixis - Viridian clearance required> (subject A). He appears to be reviewing documents. Footsteps heard outside the room, knock on the door after a while.
Door opens and two more individuals enter. One wears scholarly robes, carries a stack of data slates and appears old with extensive augmentics. The other is dressed in medicae robes, appears younger. Facial recognition identifies the first as Comptroller Scipio Novus (subject B), senior member of the Administratum and the second as Mercutio Ramirez (subject C), chief medicae inspector of the Schola Progenium facilities in Golgenna Reach.
Subject A: Welcome gentlemen, take your seats. I trust that you were discreet on your way here. How is our plan unfolding?
Subject B: Thank you sir. But of course. We know what is at stake. All goes surpisingly well. We have located even more promising subjects among the younger progena. Dr Ramirez here is already evaluating them.
A: Is that so?
Subject C: Indeed my Lord. Several children who show promise have been brought in the last couple of months and I believe that they will suit our purpose.
A: Won't we draw suspicion if we are to take under our wing a bigger number of children than usual?
B: Not to worry my Lord. Due to the ongoing and escalated warfare in the edges of our sector there have been many more deaths than previously and a resulting higher rate of children inducted to the Schola. I made sure that the numbers match perfectly.
A:Good good...But let's get to the other matter. Dr., how are the operations going? how are the children responding?
C: I would get to that as well my Lord. So far the children are not in a position to know that what we do is not "official procedure" so they're mostly cooperating with only minor issues of disobedience. Through our experimental techniques we have managed to implant the desired knowledge in their minds which is then carefully cultivated by the relevant courses they take. What is more important though is that the psycho-resistance engrams that we have surgically implanted in the most promising children appear to be performing beyond our expectations. Their capabilities are periodically tested by the special personell that you provided and the results are more than encouraging.
B: And in order not to draw any suspicions we took care to have this children attend the basic courses of military training with the rest. Besides a couple of the Drill Abbots are privy to certain aspects of our cause and as such there is no danger of disclosure.
A: That is what I wanted to hear. Very well gentlemen, I'll relay your observations and comments to the rest. You can leave the data slates for inspection. Go now and be careful. The Emperor protects, those who help themselves. What we do is important and we must not fail. Go.
Subjects B and C, stand up, bow and exit the room. Subject A opens a safe next to his desk and takes out some papers reviewing them. Then he switches his personal vox unit on, [frequency could not be discerned] and sends a message.
A: Yes, we are doing progress. Proceed to second phase, with utmost secrecy. Over and out.
+++Feed ends...+++
Vox message broadcasted from the administration's office, an hour before the storming of the facilties by Inquisitorial forces. Message intercepted through carefully placed vox thieves planted there by operative <expunged by Decree of the Inquisition - Ordos Calixis - Magenta clearance required>.
...They know, damn their souls, they know and now they come for us. Burn all records, cover all tracks. Our children must never be found. We have gone to great lengths to ensure their careful placement into Imperial Organizations. Authorise Code Eleven-Delta-Omega, destruction of all pertinent archives. Authorisation is granted and total destruction of those files is to be carried out immediatelly. The Coven's seeds shall remain undiscovered. Over and out.

Sounds of discussion, a man appearing older (Subject A), dressed in Adeptus Arbites uniform is talking to the other (Subject B, our man) who appears to be in civilian clothes, naked from the waist up.
- (A) It's good to see you once again young man. I learn your news and you seem to be doing quite well.
- Subject B nods and passes to him something that looks like a bottle.
Subject A stands up, moves closer to subject B.
- (A) This is why i'm here.
Subject B looks up, waits...
- (A) They've noticed you, all your hard work and diligence, your incorrutible nature, the way you solved some of the cases entrusted to you, how you maintained your composure when others didn't. They're interested in you and sent me to talk to you. To recruit you.
-(B) What are you talking about? Who noticed? and what is all these nonsense about recruiting me? I'm a proud member of the Emperor's Adeptus Arbites and i don't quite intend to leave service yet.
-(A) You don't understand. Let me explain and don't get agitated. Damn it Mark, I think at times that I’m still talking to that flamboyant boy trying to fit in his uniform, in that deteriorating, full with decay and stagnation city. Even back then you stood out of the miserable lot.
-(B) These days are long gone, though I still can't figure out whether it was better back then, for one thing we gave em hell down there, we put all those corrupted bastards in their proper place.
-(A) I remember it as if it was yesterday. Indeed we performed a fine service to the Imperium of Man. And now let us perform another. As you know, there are some cases that simply cannot be explained, some findings that cannot be categorized, some situations that elude even the most perverse criminal mind and avoid the attention of even the most diligent investigator. There is a group inside our Organization that believes there is reason behind all this, that something else is at work in our Sector, apart from petty criminal activity and serial killing psychopathy.
This group has been organised in a department within the Adeptus Arbites and is called the Divisio Immoralis. We, who heed this call, are the Wardens, for we stand vigilant against the signs of heresy, of corruption, of the moral bankruptcy of our society and carefully, ever with subtlety and utmost care, we pick the pieces to a grand puzzle and put them together. It's a thankless job and even worse than the one you're currently doing and as such it isn't fit for everybody.
It takes a special kind of man for this job Mark, one with the nerve to withstand it and the iron will to move on.
I'm sent here to bring you in our ranks. If you agree, then pack your bags and follow me. They're awaiting us in Scintilla. You'll see the capital boy and the leader of the Wardens. Yes, *lowers his voice to a barely audible level* ........ herself will meet and brief you , once.....there.
-(B) Damn it old man.....and when I just said that nothing could happen to further screw my day....if it is for the good of the Imperium then I’m up for it...
- (A) That's my boy, now pass me that amasec and go get ready.
Subject B withdraws inside the apartment. Subject A reaches to his ear and appears to be talking.
-(A) Yes....agreed...will take him now...reluctant but will come...prepare for immediate extraction, others .....watching... see you there. ......over and out.
At this point conversation ends and subject B moves in. +++Feed ends +++

Door opens slightly. Sound of talking. Subject walks in....
Image static...
Indeterminate amount of time passes, image clears, now inside a poorly maintained room. Two subjects sitting around a table, talking.
- (B) What the hell were you thinking....damn it. And what do you want here?
-(A) Calm down. I am here to check on you. I was worried. I was told you were lately involved in some pretty nasty cases and you had serious issues.
-(B) *Lowers his voice* Not something i'd like to discuss if i can help it, old man...Things were strange, pretty damn strange and i saw good men on my squad losing it while conducting these investigations. Heck,.... Xanthis got more lead in him than you can find in a munitions storage room , Higgins ended up taking an extended leave for medical reasons and Carter ended up in a Sanatorium, for bordering to insanity.
(A) I told you there were dangers. That joining the Divisio would be demanding.
(B) Demanding? Are you out of your mind - damn it. Those things weren't normal, old man. Not at all. I lost them back there. I froze, and till I had the time to come to my senses all hell had broken loose. I don't even want to remember the body count...fething murderers...
(A) I understand. Such things are not easy to stomach, even for one such as you...
(B) ....
(A) Now calm down and listen to me. I will make sure you get an indefinite leave from your duties in the Divisio and take care of the paperwork regarding the latest mess. Do something else, get some rest. And when you feel better we'll talk again.
(B) Thank you old man. You're still looking after for me, even after all those years....Sorry for shouting earlier...
(A) Oh, shut up Marcus. Besides, there are some people who want to meet you. It seems that despite what you call as failure, your brave stand in this case has raised quite a few eyebrows at your direction.
(B) [brief pause] What kind of people? What is going on?
(A) Those who call themselves "watchers", "guardians" of the soul of Mankind. Shrouded in mystery and draped in power. Have you ever heard the word "Inquisition" young man?
(B)....Throne of Terra! The Inquisition? Why, me? what for? are you sure they aren't going to execute me or something like that?
(A) Nope. In fact I think one of them has taken a particular interest in you. It seems that for quite some time, you have been watched from on high. At least that's how he put it. Now pull yourself together and get ready. They'll be here in a few days - Emperor willing - expecting to meet you, and...boy, [brief pause] they don't like to wait.

The purge of Heretical cult "Scions of Eternity"
Spoiler
+++Location: <expunged by decree of the Inquisition>
Subjects hooded, obscene necklaces and hideous symbols displayed.
Chanting... Picture zooms out, pict-source moves to the back of the room. Room seems quite big, actually like a cave chamber, lightning not enough to discern more.
4 figures visible, picture zooms in, identifying operatives of cell VII, Marcus Reinhart present, [a senior Warden of the Divisio Immoralis and proven acolyte, at the time] bearing some kind of edged weapon, probably a sword, as well as a hand-cannon and directing the other three into position.
Chanting from the gathered people grows louder, energies emanating from among them...
Las shot fired, one of the cultists falls, others panic, try to respond.
Loud noise, sound is cut off for a while...probably shots fired close to pict-source.
Sound returns...shouts in the distance..."take them out...all of them...Nixios to the right... Emperor's mercy, don't let escape..." more shots...
A figure rises from among the cultists, darkness extends outward from it.
A voice echoes in the distance..."...found you at last...surrender..."
The figure responds: "Begone coward...lest you witness the ...power of ...warp...dark masters feast on your...soul...you weakling..."
Shouts and more shots, loud recitation of the Litany of protection against the Perils of the Warp can be heard, resounding through the room.
"The Emperor shall smite you down with his unending righteousness witch. Forward brothers....In His name..."
Cultists move forth, only to be mowed down by what seems to be a hail of gunfire by heavy weaponry, echoing from somewhere in the back of the room.
Then suddenly a figure darts forth, too fast for the pict source to follow.
Discharge of psychic energies in the room, temperature falls rapidly as evidently shown by frost on various spots... image blurs....+++
[My Lord, after we recovered the pict source and delivered it to the venerable priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus we managed to salvage the presented part as well as a couple more recordings which can be found in files 39-C and 40-D which were also submitted to the archives under the highest clearance, as per your orders. Extended debriefing of the cell VII's acolytes revealed the success of the operation and the extermination of the cult Magus. The team of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers - that were called as support - saw to the rest.

The party was alerted by the screams of Lady Fitzgerald.
Lord Fitzgerald was dead in a pool of blood, a neat hole blown through his forehead. An expanding round had been used, and all of his head from the earlobes back was splattered up the walls. Lady Fitzgerald was kneeling in front of him, screaming fit to burst.
“I can’t understand it.” Colonel Van Haal offered. “Single shot to the head, and the angle of the window suggests it could only have come from the bell-tower.”
“Bad business. Bad business indeed.” General Keogh replied. “They say nobody was in the tower?”
“Nobody whatsoever.” Arbitrator Kreech was the only man in the room who hadn’t been in the party when the murder had occured. “The tower’s crumbling and decrepit, so they post a guard at the bottom to stop teenagers getting in. He went up the tower as soon as the shot was heard, and saw nothing.”
“So, what. Someone took a shot, and then escaped across the rooftops?” Lady Cotillard asked tremulously.
“What rooftops, man? Half the tiles are loose. Try and walk on them and you’ll end up on your arse in a flowerbed with a broken back.”
Lady Fitzgerald sniffed lavishly. Van Haal reached out and patted her on the shoulder. “Please, gentlemen. You’re upsetting the poor woman. Are you alright, Merillion?” She sniffed again.
Kreech gave Van Haal a long look. “You were a guard sniper for a while, weren’t you? Then a game hunter. You could have made that shot.”
“And ran across the rooftops? Fast enough to be in the bedroom before me?” Cotillard leapt to her feet and pointed at Kreech in squeaky outrage. “Gideon could never have killed anyone! He’s a good man.”
Van Haal laughed genially. “Don’t worry, Letillia. The good arbitrator just needs to check every angle. Besides, i’m flattered that he thinks that i could have been so acrobatic, despite my advancing years.”
“Gideon could never have done that.” Lady Fitzgerald announced through phlegm and a handkercheif. “I was discussing the works of Sejanus with him.”
Van Haal looked at Kreech slightly apologetically. “She is such a fan of the “Rights of the imperial hero.”
Kreech was unimpressed. “Whatever. I’m announcing full lockdown. The murderer must still be on the island. I can’t arrest all of you, but nobody leaves or enters the island until i have this sorted.”
Van Haal shrugged. “Whatever it takes, Arbitrator. Whatever it takes.”
Two days later, Lady Fitzgerald fell to her death from the balcony of her room, overlooking the sea. As the official report would state, her body was so damaged that any injury it had sustained before falling would be unrecognisable, especially that of, say, a poisoned dart. Suicide was not ruled out.
The evening after that General Keogh was shot twice in the back with a silenced gun.
Van Haal pulled Cotillard up the stairs of the bell tower. Two of the stairs fell down as he stepped over them, but he didn’t even stumble. Cotillard yelped and jumped the gaps. At the top they paused for breath.
“We’re safe now, my love.” Van Haal explained, and began digging in a pile of rags. Cotillard curled up in a corner. “What will happen to us, Gideon?”
“We can hold out here until they come to rescue us.” He pulled out his rifle, a long, brass and wood hunting rifle. “I stored this here in case the murderer returned.”
“It shouldn’t be too long.” Cotillard offered. “I got a message to Kreech. He’s gone to get help from the mainland.”
Van Haal stared for a moment. “Kreech’s gone to the mainland?”
“He had a boat hidden in the reeds.”
Van Haal stared for a moment, and then started pacing. “This makes sense! It all makes sense. Kreech wanted a big score to help him move up the ranks from such a backwater posting. There’s motive. He had whole teams of trained arbitrators to help him- there’s means. And now he plans to escape, and tell the world that we did it, and that he was the one that caught us... Where did you say his boat was?”
“In the reeds. By the northern headland. Gideon my darling, are you thinking...”
“We can’t let Kreech escape, my sweet. We must bring him to justice.” Van Haal clipped a sight to the top of the rifle, and aimed down it, along at the headland of the island. Cotillard caught a glimpse of the boat rounding it, a speck of black on the azure sea.
“You can’t possibly...”
“Oh, my dear. I can.” He aimed for a few seconds longer, muttered something under his breath, and then pulled the trigger.
“Did you get him?”
“I did indeed.”
“Oh, Gideon” She kissed him, quickly. “That must have been nearly a kilometer away. Does that... does that mean it’s over now?”
“Almost, my dear. Tell me- what was the girl’s name?”
“What girl?”
“The psyker. The one you and this little sordid coalition have been hiding from imperial justice for twenty years. The one that General Keogh arranged to have moved off-planet to Scythia, where she killed thirty-two imperial citizens. The daughter of Lord and Lady Fitzgerald. You lead her to her death, and the death of others, and i bet you didn’t even know her name.”
“I- of course i do- what about Kreech?”
“Of course he knew about this. You can’t say the man was incompetent. What was the girl’s name?”
“It- It was Anna?”
“Wrong.” He pushed her out of the window, and watched her fall the eight storeys to the gardens below. “Astrid, actually. Orders were orders, my dear. And frankly, i’ve known better kissers.”

I'm glad of the Cell Directive, since in my head Septimus has a slightly Sherlock-ian personality. In keeping with that theme, I'm going to go with some investigate-y advances:
I've passed on Ciphers for now, as I'd like to play Septimus as being new to this group: as it says in his background, he spends most of his time tech-priesting until Wroth calls him in. If anyone feels it's important I'll grab it with my first 100 earned XP, but in the meantime he has a micro-bead.
More XP! That's always nice (not very much if you've got the "kid-in-candy-shop" syndrome though, regarding what to pick ).
The cell directive doesn't do much for my character but it certainly does offer a neat set of investigative skills for people whose careers might lack them.
So:
Ciphers (Acolyte) 100 XP
Inquiry +20 100 XP
Perception Simple Advance 250 XP
50 XP left unspent

I should also be grateful for a PM with the relevant cell directive in it.
And yay for character development in our starting conversation. Means we all know each other and can thus be suitably sad when the inevitable happens and someone dies horribly.

I haven't looked to see if everyone has done so, but if each of you could update your CS here as you make purchases (xp or otherwise) and keep track of wounds, ammo, etc for easy GM searching, that would be 9 kinds of awesome.
ChaoticSky, gimme a Regular +0 FL (Cults) test if you please
The armory Credit is to gain any pertinent gear you feel may be required for this job. I realize you have little to go on currently, but the offer is open. It will also remain open. You don't have access to much monetarily but you have access to the rare and obscure. For those of you short of ammo or other easier to find items, you may want to save your 'Tricorn Credit' for more situational items. Just my advice, but do as you will
I'll allow for the cell to correspond in the room and armory until ready to depart and we'll go from there!
The landing pad Wroth leased for your sole use hangs over the dark sea that Sibellus borders. Pollution and grime line the surface. The landing pad itself is structurally sound with support beams running back to the solidity of the hive and cliff walls.
As I stated in the recruitment thread, self sufficiency will be a large theme in this game. So locating and paying for room(s), food, and ground transport is on you guys. Same goes for serious medical service if you need it.
Keep this in mind please. At this point in your Inquisitorial career with Wroth, you know well enough to make the most, financially, of your experiences. Ie if you can make a throne (legally preferred) in the course of your investigation, you should consider it.
That said, compared to the other cell, you lot are handicapped morally as far as what you'll probably be prepared to do to make ends meet. So additional 'Credit' will be given for advancing your Investigation. The Tricorn also offers services like medical or informational (librarium) at a 'Credit' cost. We'll handle that when/if we get to it however.
I'll keep my credit held in reserve, I think. Fenria has a decent set of gear as it is. The one thing I'd be interested in asking after, though, is some sort of Inquisitorial proof of identity. Not to be worn openly of course, but something we can use to speed things along with authority figures and, in this case, the members of the Ecclesiarchy we might encounter.
I'm also assuming we have Vox-codes and the like so that we can report in when necessary.

You have the vox-codes, yes. You don't know who's supposed to be o the other end/assigned to your case. Does anyone have a vox-caster to bridge the gap from the shore to the Tricorn? They're big n' bulky. If not, the built in one inside the Valkyrie will suffice it's just not as convenient I imagine.

Yes! Sorry I had actually written a list of things to include in the briefing tonight and that list was subsequently lost.
Each of you already have a 'Writ of Office'
This is a small emblem gene-coded to each of you for your service. It will benefit certain social situations where needed but do be aware of the attention and rumor such a display may cause. The Writ of Office can be verified at the Tricorn should it come to that.
Ditto with the starting credit. It occurs to me that my only small weapon is a cut-down pistol- is it too late to pick up a pistol with my starting money?
Also, is everyone moving on to the valkyrie than? Or is there anything folks would like to do here?
LCP:
Spoiler
no need to roll Tech-Use to port the projections over. There is a map included on the mission slate that's interactable - you can change the map to display local all the way to hive-scale.
I think we're all headed for the Valkyrie. There's not a lot to do here, and we might as well get on with starting the investigation sharpish. Don't want to give those radicals time to plot and prepare...
Or the enemy. Either. Both.

Yes. I didn't include mention of the radicals in the briefing as it would realistically have to include a partial ID of one of them. as I haven't given a partial ID of one of you to them, I thought this fair.
I did want to make you, the players, aware up front of the experiment however.
Did I find out anything with that successful Forbidden Lore Inquisition test?
It was one of the rolls you had requested in your "briefing" IC post, and I rolled it just below the Awareness roll in OOC thread, spoiled under a tag for you only. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you for just a trivial piece of information, it's just that when I'm immersed in a Dark Heresy game, even the slightest detail adds to the experience.
