Basically, Foxglove knew it was too hot to hold because she said it was when suggesting tempurature. The fact that she was not holding it with a thing that could feel heat was somewhat irrelevant; it was too hot to hold, ergo, she could not hold it.

Mmm, I'm just amused by the various relationships my ponies seem to have and how different they are from each other. From the playful and fun relationship between a flirtatious Gearstride and the smitten Silverpine. To the mercurial almost walking on egg shells feeling I get from the sometimes fluffy sometimes angsty romance between dopey Fox trot and reserved but in love Icy Touch. To the roller coaster melodrama romance novel fest between two broken soul mates, you know who those scenery chewers are
Its like the relationships themselves are characters of their own, to me :3

Well, the Fox Trot and Icy scene is a forgone conclusion on how that's going to end, but I think that's it, really just the scene at the beach that's going on.
