Alright, got half the character sheets in and a good idea for some arching plots.
First, let's get a few things down.
For the start of the campaign, I'm debating between two ideas. Either the party is a salvage company, looking to make some money digging up lost technology and such out in the Waste or, as Turt suggested, some folks hired in a tavern to escort a Gnomir gentleman across the Waste with some precious and secretive cargo. What does everyone want? Feel free to suggest something if you have some ideas you'd like to play out.
Also, I would really like to discuss character goals, see how we can get those to play out in-game.
Alsoalso, dump your sheets here on the first page if'n ya would.
Soon as everyone's character sheet is ready and we get the start and goals figured out we're good to go.
For anyone observing:
I read through the FFd6 .pdf a while back and really fell in love with the system, but feel that something that made Final Fantasy so outstanding was all the different settings. Seeing that each of the games' settings have already had their stories told, I decided to write one up to use with the system. Also, just wanted to test the system out a bit and see how well it can be adapted to new settings.
Good feelings about this.

Hmm. I wonder which one I will choose? I have no idea. None at all. Nope. Absolutely none. Second choice, obviously.
Anyway, here's my sheet:

From the quote I take it she's going to be the easily distracted sort? A glaring character flaw in direct contrast with her profession? Love it.

Personally, and no offence to Turt, the idea of a group of strangers being recruited in a tavern to take a secret cargo somewhere is a bit old hat. I like the idea of an established business being tasked with something. Not just because my character is an engineer and so probably the one running it , which I'm not sure how I'd fancy anyway.

Reason: more correcting character sheet
Turt - Keep your bonus to lore separate from your ranks in it, if ya would. Just a note in some parenthesis to the side of the skill, so it shows it being separate from skill ranks. Alsoalso, maybe the harp should be an arcane weapon since ranged isn't on your job's list. Since you have no spells, you can swap out the spellcrit thing imbued weapons get for the distance effect. Aside from that, everything looks good there mate.
Bonns - 10/level is indeed correct. Same as with Turt's skill bonus, keep that as a note to the side so you know it's separate from ranks in the skill if ya would. Everything looks good here.
Soup - We already discussed the changes needed to the sheet and abilities and skills and such, so that's no problem. Do want to point out you can hold off on defining your limit breaks 'til you reach the level they're acquired at, though. So you don't have to worry 'bout those just yet at least. Just got skills and equipment left to define.
So we've got one vote for being hired in a pub, one for being a salvage company I take it? Also, any thoughts on character backgrounds?

My character has been fascinated with the history of the planet and machinery all his life. Went to an esteemed university, where he discovered something off about the planet's nature. Derided by his tutors and elders he dropped out and uses his technical know-how to just about get by in the world. He settled down and had a wife and child, lived happily, though in relative poverty for a good few years. Recently however he's been feeling an urge to travel. (If turt's idea is chosen) He asked for permission from his town's leaders for a marque of travel, for "pioneering" purposes. (If scavengers chosen). The junk shop he works at repairing gadgets recently got permission to claim an extra bit of land in the wastes.
My goals are, in no particular order(for the moment)
-Vindicate his findings with evidence, present to the major scientific board.
-Provide a better life for his family, earn enough to move them somewhere less grim.
-Discover a piece of history, an original settlement or starship.
Life time goal: Travel offworld, perhaps to the original home of his race.
Alright. So, if I did my math right, I had one extra Lore rank, right? Okay. And for the harp, should I list its type as "Arcane (Ranged)" or is there any preferred way for me to show it's ranged? Oh, and I have spells, silly. They're just musical and cost no MP. :P
Now, as for background...
Spoiler
Marat has always been fascinated by music. Not just any music, however. Music with magical abilities. It was hard for him to fit into Elhwaiin society due to this, since all of his peers studied the mainstream forms of magic, such as Black, White, and Blue. His family supported him, however, and that was all that mattered to him. It was difficult to find a school for Marat to learn about his magic of preference (mainly because there were about five other Elhwaiin in the world that knew *how* to teach him). Eventually, though, he learned of magical melodies, enchanting etudes, spellcrafting sonnets, and so on.
His was a mostly uneventful life, except for one horrible afternoon. Marat was seven at the time. He, his parents, and his younger sister, aged five, were having a picnic a ways outside town. As they were eating, a band of gobbledygooks (that is, goblins; that is, domovois; that is, imps; that is, knockers; that is, red caps) attacked them. Marat and his parents survived unscathed, but the creatures had managed to kidnap his sister. They never found the monsters' camp, nor his sister. Since that day, Marat has sworn that he will destroy the goblin race, no matter what it takes.
As I just wrote that up, it seems that I will have to change my goals, as well.
P.S. Bonn, it doesn't really matter right now, but the levels for Limit Breaks are 5, 15, and 25; not 5, 10, and 15.
EDIT: I can't tell you how many times I'm going to look at Bonn's avatar and think it's Arky, since they're the same. :P

A preemptive tl;dr: A multi-racial caravan is in trouble, I help, I get exiled, get mentored by a White Mage, WM gets killed by a Dark Knight, I becomes a Paladin to avenge him. aka, "What if Darth Maul escaped after killing Qui Gon Jin and Obi Wan was a yak?"
Yakkehty grew up in a small secluded Yorukh village in the mountains south of Pleros. He made a living as the town's blacksmith, forging agricultural equipment like plows and lumber axes. He aspired to forge military arms and armor after finding an old manual with instructions for their craft. He could not read the strange script, but he pored over the pictures tirelessly. However, there wasn't much use for these things, as his village was peaceful, secluded, and fortified from attacks by natural barriers and walls built by the village's founders.
One day, a group of several men and women of various races arrived at the village's front gate. They pounded on the gate, yelling in strange tongues. The sentry brought this news to the village elder. Yakkehty's forge happened to be near the courtyard, where the elder would take his afternoon walks. He overheard their conversation, and decided to eavesdrop. The elder waited only a moment before delivering his judgement - the outsiders would not be allowed in. "They're probably just bandits trying to con their way in. Post more sentries, but keep out of sight." The elder saw Yakkehty and motioned to him. He tried to act as if he had not been listening and walked over. "Yakkehty, if you are not busy, I want to post you on the wall. If the outsiders truly are bandits, we might need your help if they persist."
Yakkehty, being unnaturally curious for a Yorukh, agreed. He hid behind a column on the wall and peered out at the group of strange beings. If they were conmen, they were certainly very convincing. Behind them was a covered wagon and two bedraggled beasts of labor. They all looked frantic and fearful, save one - a tall and thin person, its facial features shrouded by the hood of its white robe. Its head was bowed, its hands clasped. Yakkehty found this very interesting, but his attention was dragged to something even more alerting - a group of savage creatures in the far distance steadily making their way towards the village.
He leaped down from the wall and informed the village elder of this distressing development. The elder merely lowered his head. "Venerable one, we must go to their aid! Within our walls they at least have a chance of survival. Our archers can defend us from the threat." The elder harrumphed at this notion. "You mean Fruffle One-Eye and his brother Frulmp? They can hardly bag a leafer, much less stave off the threat of a horde of beasts! No, we have only one option - we must drive the outsiders away from the village. They will only bring ruin to our peaceful townspeople." Yakkehty furrowed his brow at this idea. "...and then what, venerable one? Even if we manage to send them away, they cannot defeat those monsters by themselves. Once they have finished with them, they will bring their slavering fangs to our walls. Maybe the outsiders can help rid us of them." The elder shook his massive wooly head. "No, that simply cannot happen. For all we know, the beasts could belong to those dishonest wanderers. Accepting outsiders into the village always brings bad omens - do you not know the village's past?" Yakkehty scoffed incredulously. "Certainly one goat thief does not represent the moral compass of the entire outside world." He then nodded resolutely. "Fine, if you will not let them in...then I shall go out. Those people need assistance, and I would rather die as a good Yorukh than live as a cowardly one."
He quickly gathered whatever he could from his forge that he thought would be helpful. His hammer and chisel could be used as crude weapons, and those salves he had gotten from the village healer for the occasional burn might help soothe any wounds from the upcoming battle. He dropped these things into his satchel, noticing that the old instructional manual was in there. "I don't remember putting that in there - but there's no time to return it." He ran to the wall and scaled it in one quick movement. He catapulted himself over the top, landing in front of the group. (Figured I might as well take some artistic license in the background - I doubt my yak-man could realistically achieve the Dexterity roll required of such a feat. )
Most of those gathered LOL'd jumped back in surprise. However, the strange robed person held its ground, and raised its head to look at Yakkehty. Beneath the hood was a wrinkled, bearded face. Yakkehty wasn't sure, but he believed it was a male member of the ancient humanoids. The others had very different appearances, ranging from canine humanoids to short creatures with strange eyepieces and headgear. They spoke to the robed man in a strange tongue. He could not understand what they were saying, but they seemed hopeful. The robed man smiled, and spoke to Yakkehty, surprisingly, in the Yorukh language. Heavily accented, yes, but that was to be expected of someone with such narrow nostrils. "Quite frankly, I was surprised that anyone would help. Nothing against your kind, but they tend to be very stubborn. It would appear that you are...different. Tell me, have you come to help us? I assume you have seen the beasts that nip at our heels." Yakkehty pulled out his small blacksmith's hammer. "I'll do what I can. I'm no warrior, but I'm one of the strongest in my village. However, I'm afraid that I'm the only one coming to your aid this dark day. I tried to persuade the elder, but, as you said, my people are stubborn." "And it may become their downfall..."
The robed man laughed. It shocked Yakkehty - how could he be so lighthearted in the face of such danger? The old man motioned to one of the hairless members of the group, and spoke again in the weird language. The pink skin ran to the caravan, and came back dragging a blade almost as long as it was. It offered the weapon to Yakkehty, who hefted it in one hand with ease. The tired deliverer panted heavily and stared, in awe of his strength. The robed man laughed again - still surprising Yakkehty - and turned back to the ever-advancing horde. "We have a job to do. I am named Zelendil - what are you called, brave one?" "I am usually called Smithy, but my name is Yakkehty." Zelendil repeated his out-of-place laugh. "Well, a smithy you are now longer. You seem more like a warrior to me! Now, let us go and face these demons!"
The battle was ferocious and swift. The strange beasts fell left and right around Yakkehty's swirling blade. He had never wielded a sword before, but it felt right, somehow. Violence came surprisingly naturally to him. It frightened him a little. After the battle, Zelendil gathered the wounded in a circle around him, including Yakkehty, who had received a couple light scratches. Zelendil raised his hands to the sky and started...glowing. Yakkehty watched in amazement as the circle's wounds just...disappeared. His jaw fell in surprise as his scratches closed up and stopped stinging. After the strange event, Zelendil pulled him to the side. "This technique is called White Magic. You know, I see a spark of the holy light inside of you, child. Not to sound too prideful, but I have a good amount of insight. I see how distraught the battle made you - perhaps yours is truly a peaceful way. I could teach you to grow that spark. Would you accept my tutelage?" Yakkehty nodded vigorously. "How could I deny it? If you're telling me I could do something so fantastical as that, who could turn down such an offer?" "In time, my friend, in time. It would mean, however, that you would have to leave your home."
Yakkehty turned back to look at the village he had grown up in. It seemed so distant now. Atop the walls stood the elder. The old Yorukh shook his head at Yakkehty before turning away and climbing down from the wall. "I don't think they'll let me back in, Zelendil. I'm afraid I have no home now." Zelendil laughed that strange laugh of his again. "Of course you do! Why, it's this wonderful caravan here! Come, let me teach you of the world outside your home, the people that inhabit it, and how to communicate with them."
Thus Yakkehty started his wanderings with the trade caravan. He learned to speak the common trade language, and a few phrases in the various tongues of the other caravan denizens. He paid his dues by fixing wheels and yokes, and learned to make armor and weaponry from his old manual. Zelendil has taught him to read the words in the worn book. It spoke of a material called 'Adamantium', which sounded much like the rare green metal the Yorukh called 'Yaff-hullore'. Zelendil didn't know about it, and he knew a great many things. He tried to teach Yakkehty about his inner talent, but it wasn't easy going. He only managed to learn one 'spell' from his master before the unthinkable happened.
The bestial horde accosted the caravan once again. This time, however, they were not merely rampaging - they seemed driven by a purpose. In fact, they were being led. Among them stood a towering figure, clad entirely in a black metal suit of armor. They seemed to follow the grim knight's commands. During this battle, Zelendil did not laugh. He conversed with the monster-master in a language Yakkehty had never heard. The battle was long and bloody. Yakkehty watched in horror as his fellow comrades fell before the no-longer mindless creatures. After a while, the only members of the caravan left were Yakkehty and Zelendil. They stood back-to-back as the monsters circled them. "Yakkehty, I'm afraid this is my end. You are a strong soul, though. I think, no, I know, that this battle will not be your last. Farewell, my friend." He leapt into the swarm of beasts, moving with murderous intent towards the armored giant. "Zelendil, wait!" The evil figure moved toward him as well, meeting the old man's magical staff with a giant black axe. It chopped through the staff and the man with one fell swing.
Yakkehty was filled with a rage he had never felt before. But it wasn't a berserk rage, it was more of a zealous rage. His body glowed with a white light, and the attacks of his enemies bounced off him. The leader roared in anger, and it, and its demonic entourage, vanished in a dark whirlwind.
Yakkehty wandered purposely for days, and managed to find himself in a small town. He made his way to the local tavern, and gave the little gold he had left for a room and a tall, cold, and frothy mug of ale. (If we are forming a salvage company, he will see a flyer posted asking for employees for a caravan. If not, he will hear a rumor from the barkeep about a guy looking for help.)

Hey, Necco, can we have a map of the world? Or do you even have one?

I do have a map, I'll get it up later today.
Need to track down the notebook its' in.
Also, I'll try to write down some more fluff for each race and nation, give everyone a better idea of what's going on in the world before we start. (Whenever that is)

Alright. And in other news, I've got an IRC chat open for the group.
Server: freenode.net
Channel: #KongFFd6
P.S. For those of you unfamiliar with IRC, you can go to webchat.freenode.net to get in. Just enter your name in the nickname box and fill in the channel box as I've stated above. Do the Captcha, then click Go (or Enter, or whatever the button says).

I presume that the wasteland is to the west of Leosraum and Pleros. in the area with the spire. I'm also guessing that circles and squares are smaller towns and villages. hmm toss up as being from Pleros or Leosraum, as to where the salvage company would be from, I propose Pleros or the surrounding area.
I'm glad you can read that, Bonn. That makes one of us.
EDIT: Could you possibly include a legend/key of some sort? It's hard to tell exactly what everything is.

Turt: Red pointy things are mountains, green swirly things are forests, blue squigglies are rivers, blue roundy things are lakes, black stars are capitals, black squares are fortresses, black circles are cities, and black points are towns.
Still need to think of a name for the capital of Leosraum it seems.
Bonns: The border between Pleros and Leosraum would be a likely place for a Vulpin to come from, and pretty much all salvaging is done from Pleros's cities.

I just realized I should probably include a few more events of Marat's 126-year life until now. So, here we go:
Spoiler
Marat discovered his affinity for music at the age of 12. It took his family 30 years before they could find a suitable tutor. During that time, Marat practiced around with different instruments. One day, he heard a story of a fictional land, where a harp-playing prince helped save the world. Marat found that he was talented at playing the harp. He also enjoyed the sound it made.
Marat finally found someone who could teach him how to use the magic that lies within music. Marat had classes in this way for nearly 60 years. On his final day, his tutor gave him a present. It was a new harp. Unlike his old one, which was made of ordinary wood, this one was composed of a sort of light metal. It gave off a magical aura. Marat's last lesson was how to use this new harp to protect himself. He learned to create a sort of "physical" sound by strumming the harp. Marat thanked his tutor, and left for the last time.
For the next 25 or so years, Marat traveled the world. When necessary, he would take an odd job here or there to get enough Gil to eat for a few days. The other day, he wandered into a tavern.
(Here is where the first quest determines what happens next. The first paragraph is the salvage company quest. The second paragraph is the bodyguard quest.)
Marat notices his wallet is getting light, so he asks the barkeep if he knows of any jobs that need to be done. A man sitting nearby overhears him, and interrupts. "Looking for a job, are ya? Well, a friend of mine owns a salvage company for getting things out of the Waste. Not many people want to get into that mess, so he's a good bit undermanned. What say you to helping him out, eh? He pays fairly well, and the danger is minimal." The man notices Marat's harp. "A bard, eh? Well, I'm sure they could use someone to anno- I mean, encourage the workers to pick up the pace. So, how about it?" Marat agrees. A few days later, on the first day of the job, Marat finds himself on the front gates of the salvage company, after following a badly-drawn map by the man who recruited him.
-or-
Marat notices his wallet is getting light, so he asks the barkeep if he knows of any jobs that need to be done. A man sitting nearby overhears him, and interrupts. "Pardon me, young Elhwaiin, but I noticed you're in search of a job. I happen to have a friend of mine who needs bodyguards to protect him while he transports cargo. Normally, there would be many young men like yourself eagerly offering to take the job. However, his route leads through the Waste, and it seems this generation's so-called "young muscle" is too afraid of a couple of monsters." At this, the man chuckles to himself. "Would you mind helping my friend with his transport? I promise, it pays quite well." Marat agrees, and is instructed to meet the man at the tavern in a few days' time.
There we go. I hope that works for you.
