There's a lot of speculation on the forums, and with that a lot of disagreement. So, I figure it makes sense to run polls between strips to gauge forum opinion.

Interim #1
Do you prefer Vaarsuvius as a male or female?
No, seriously, I think he's alive - partly because of the halo theory, partly because it'd be a waste to kill such a character so early.
What if he becomes a demigod or god like Elderscrolls Talos (or any Mortal turned into deity characters).

But I would not be shocked if he lived. Even if my first impression is that I do not like him all that much.
His greatfather being a dragon, Girard may have a better lifespan than any human. If he died years before, that means that familicide stroke his child even with at least one missing link between ABD and them.
That means that if familicide was casted on me :
- My parents would die.
- My mother parents and my brother would die.
- My father's brother and sister would die even if their parent's passed away years ago.
- My mother's mother's brothers and sister would die, then all my mother's cousins (starts to make a bunch of peoples).
etc...
Going up and down in every family tree connected to mine, regardless if peoples are or aren't dead would be a massacre.

What do the "Flesh to Stone" and "dead, but there's a Shadow copy of himself" theories count as?

Uh huh. Yep. It would cause that in my opinion. Familicide was an epically broken spell. As it should be.
And I wonder if Dragonborn do get an extended lifespan in 3rd Ed. In 4th Ed they do not.

Dragonborn in 3rd ed get there age reset to 200 years and given a life span of 800 IIRC. But I'd like to point out that Dragonborn in 3rd ed are vastly different than in 4e, mainly that its an acquired template because Bahamaut choose non-dragon humanoids to be his envoys and paragons of his faith to non-dragons. They are no so much a race as they are individually selected chosen from the Platinum Dragon himself.
For the sake of The Story and the laws of drama, I must say yes.
(I'm a fan of the flesh-to-stone theory right now, but I think it still counts as 'yes' since according to srd you aren't dead when you are turned into stone.)
Not "alive" in the traditional sense, because of old age. I mean, Lord Shojo was just a little kid when Soon abdicated, so he'd be, what, 120? More? Even Dorukan who seemed to be the youngest member of the party was venerable when Xykon attacked.
On the other hand, he seemed to be paranoid enough to place himself under some sort of stasis, Flesh to Stone or the like. And the statue in #841 was suspicious as hell.
And he's proven (the desert trap) that he can cast contingent spells that wait for many many years, so perhaps he'll be reanimated when some yet unknown condition is met, such as someone getting too close to the gate.

I guess I'll go with no, but there's an illusory version of himself guarding the Gate.

Soon met Lirian about 66 years before the OOTS was on trial, so Girard would be in his 80s or 90s. Probably best to ignore the fact that Shojo looks like a little kid in that flashback.

Well, unless Soon was significantly older than the others from the beginning. Then the timeline could work. Of course, Girard would still have to be at least as old as Dorukan.
