You wake up in a completely dark room, unsure of where you are at the moment. This is not where you went to sleep, you know that much, but all of the other details of... everything are fuzzy. As you stand, and feel your way around, you realize that the room is shaped like a triangle... and very small. It couldn't be more than 6 or 7 feet across in any direction.
Then, you begin to think about yourself, and you realize that before you can worry about where you are, you should try to remember more about yourself.
And as always, one of the first questions must be... are you a boy, or a girl?
Oh, right, of course you're a girl. How could you forget that?
As you realize this, three lights come on, showing that the room is indeed shaped like a triangle. You realize you're wearing completely grey clothing, and have nothing but the clothes on your back (which you're pretty sure aren't yours in the first place...).
Each of the three lights is above a different door, and is a different color. The doors all have something different drawn on them. Looking at the ceiling and floor, there seems to be no other way in or out.
You figure that you should try one of the doors, but which one?
You enter the green door, believing it to be the best choice because, well, who heard of green being a bad thing?
As you enter the new room, you see it is about the size of the one you were just in. This room is a square, however, and this room has someone in it.
A woman sits on the ground, apparently chained to the floor by one of her wrists. Her auburn hair is just long enough to be held in a small pony tail. She has a bit of a tan, and wears plain, red clothes, much like yours.
As you enter, she looks you over, frowning.
"Hello?" You ask.
"Do you know where we are?" You don't move much closer to the woman, but have a smile on your face, trying to seem friendly, and not panicked about the whole waking up in a creepy room thing.
"No." She replied, frown on her face, stern and unreadable. She talks bluntly, but this doesn't betray her mind trying to get a read on you.
"How did you get out of your chains?"
"I broke out of them." You say, trying to change your previously cautious attitude to confidence.
"I doubt that," the woman replies.
"I've been trying, and I've barely made any progress."
But before the woman can question you any further, you feel the room shake, and suddenly, the floor drops, and starts sliding downward, at an angle. You both do your best to stay steady as the floor slides down what appears to be a chute, eventually dropping straight down.
The two of you are shaken by the impact, as the "floor" of the original room meets the floor of this new room.
The new room must be some 50 feet across, but you can't tell where exactly this room is, in relation to the first room, because of the slide.
Looking to the ceiling though, you see that the earth is shaking, and unsteady, not only have you fallen through the bottom of the room you were once in, but now
this room is caving in!
Quickly you look around. In two directions there are tunnels, which you can safely assume are starting to cave in also. One tunnel is lit by red torches, the other by blue torches.
In your room, between the two tunnels is a table, with a key on it.
Opposite of the hallways and table is a rack, holding three weapons: a sword, an axe, and a lance.
And finally, by the weapons rack, there is an open trapdoor, leading down. The door itself seem strong enough to withstand a large impact from, I don't know, a cave in.
"Hey, get me out of this!" the woman calls out.
"Just use one of the weapons to break the chain, it'll be quicker.
You don't know exactly how much time you have until the roof collapses, but you don't have to get out of the room, quite this second.
You're in a new room, and a bit confused. What do you do?
You grab the axe yourself, and in one swift motion, the chain is broken.
"Thanks," is her short reply. She looks toward the trapdoor, but you're already headed toward the blue lit corridor.
"Shouldn't we try to go down..." she begins, but looks up at the earthen ceiling, sighs, and follows you. On the way, she grabs the key, saying,
"This could come in handy."
Running down the corridor, the blue lights eventually are replaced by green lights. As you exit the tunnel, you see a room... looking nearly identical to the one which you landed in. The only difference is that the corridors are lit red and green (where you just came from).
The imminent cave in seems to be getting worse, but for the moment, not dire.
There is also a woman, chained to a slab of floor, which seems to have crash landed like yours did. She is less feminine than the woman in green, and has a larger build than the woman in green. Her hair is long, down to the middle of her back.
At this moment, she's twisted awkwardly, as she's trying to reach the weapons (much closer than the key) as best she can, trying to slowly move the ground.
As she sees you, she smile faintly, panting.
"Oh hey. Fancy meeting people like this. Could you guys maybe grab that key? I don't really feel like getting buried alive."
She seems to have a good sense of humor.
Grabbing the key, you unlock the blue girl, while the green girl heads toward the weapons.
"Lance please," she says with a smile, and is tossed the weapon by the green woman, who also grabs an axe.
"So where did you two come from? ... Wait... green tunnel... green clothes... that makes sense. So you're Red? No... you're wearing gray..." The blue woman is interrupted when you all hear a rumbling, and large chunks of rocks begin to fall.
"Quick, we need to leave," the green woman says opening the trapdoor.
"Wait. If you're not red, shouldn't that mean there's someone down the red hallway?"
"No."
"Probably chained up like us?"
"No."
"When I was bring brought in, I thought I heard other footsteps, but I couldn't look behind me..." "FINE! YES. There is another woman in there!" Both you and the blue woman stare at the green woman, half inside of the trapdoor. She sighs.
"We were in a line. You were in front Blue. Then a red woman. And then me. And I'm sorry that we can't save her, but we don't have the time, and we can't let ourselves die."
"You would leave someone behind." The blue girl looks at the green woman, wide eyed.
"It's not leaving someone behind, she was never with us."
"You'd let someone die." She still stares at the green woman, wide eyed.
"We need to go."
"No." The blue woman runs toward the red tunnel.
"I'm going to save her."
"You're going to die."
You look at the ceiling, as more pieces of earth fall. You guess that you can
probably get down the hallway in time, but unlocking someone and getting down the trapdoor would be pushing it.
"Go ahead," you call to the green woman.
"Hopefully we can meet up later."
The green woman rolls her eyes but says nothing, shutting the trapdoor. You turn to the blue woman, and she smiles.
"Thanks for backing me up."
You run down the hallway, as more and more rocks fall toward you. As you run down the tunnel, you see a particularly weak part of the ceiling up ahead. The blue girl is ahead of you, past that section.
As you near it, that part of the ceiling crumbles, and seems ready to cave in at any second, and you worry that you won't make it past there in time.
As you run, the ceiling of your tunnel caves in, nearly crushing you. Luckily, you're able to create two portals for you to jump between. Why one portal glows orange, and the other glows blue you're not sure, but you're not going to be picky about details.
You grab the key off the table, and unlock the red girl. She is a slender woman, and wears sleek glasses. She might not be as obviously strong as either of the other girls, but she seems like she doesn't look weak.
"Okay, I guess."
The two of you rush for the trap door and open it, the red girl goes down first. You let the Blue girl, now carrying a torch, go down next, and you follow, shutting the door behind you. Climbing down a short ladder, you see that you are at a junction of different passage ways.
The torch is the only thing that gives off light in the passage you find yourselves in.
"So... what just happened?"
You and the blue girl explain a bit about the events that happened, since the two of you met, and you fill both in about what happened before that.
"Trapped in some strange place with complete strangers, who I now have to trust. Great." She seems to be friendly toward the two of you, despite her words.
The torch shows there three passageways you can choose from. One leads in the direction you last saw Green, one seems to have water dripping from the ceiling above it, and the last has the faint glow of a torch at the end of it.
"We should probably go back for green, see if we can find her."
"That's nice and all, but we need to survive, and right now, we don't have food. The water passage will probably be most helpful." However, both look to you for a decision.
Where to, gray one? Or do you have a name?"
"Chell," is your short reply.
"I'm Aylina!"
"And I'm not stupid enough to tell my name to strangers."
The three of you walk down toward where the green woman should be,
Aylina trying to make conversation (
"How's the weather?" "Earthy."). You lead the way, with the red girl in the center, and Aylina at the rear.
As you continue to walk, you hear cussing. You halt your group, pointing to the ground, which seems to be weak. Near the edge of your torchlight, you see the green woman, sinking into the ground. The quicksand has almost swallowed her waist, and her eyes dart around to see if there is anything that can help her, but to no avail.
She gives a slight nod when she sees the three of you, but her eyes plead for some sort of help.
"Well, any brilliant suggestions? I don't see anything to help us here."
"She can grab my lance, and I'll pull her in!"
"Too short. You'd need to go into the sand." Aylina just shrugs.
"I say we cut our losses and leave her."
You all create a chain of people:
Chell and
red to axe to
Aylina to lance to
green.
With some effort, everyone makes it out of the quicksand, tired, but unhurt.
"Thanks." Once more there are introductions, and the woman in green finally reveals her name,
Lithri.
The four of you troop back toward where you saw the light.
"So... pudding is good..." says
Aylina, trying to make conversation.
"What's your favorite kind?"
"OOH!, caramel creme! It's really good! How about you girls?"
"Rice pudding, for me. Simple, and healthy."
"I don't share my pudding interests with other people."
"Oh, come on, we're all sharing!"
"Fine.... Syllabub."
"Hehe... that sounds funny!"
The green woman glares at
Aylina.
"It is NOT! It is a sophisticated dessert dish!"
"Syl-la-bub!" She goes on saying this until you reach the light...
The light belongs to four short men, dressed in hooded cloaks. They turn toward you when they hear your foot steps, and they rush toward you. One stands in front of the rest, seeming to be their leader.
"Oh, hello, hello, welcome. We haven't seen anyone in so long, welcome to our home!" He gestures to the tunnel, which has 4 tattered rugs, but nothing else "homey" about it.
A look between the four of you shows your understanding... even though you four only met recently... and most of you were locked up... and you're complete strangers, these four weak men seem untrustworthy.
"So... who are you four?" you ask, ready to use your axe if need be.
"I'm Balt, and this is Petep, Eute, and Nedwaradhbh." says the man in front. Petep nods his head vigorously, Eute shows a toothy smile (missing two teeth) and Newwaradhbh stares at the wall, muttering to himself.
"And we're in the great underground caverns of those who will save us! If we pray, they may one day send us gifts, or food, or passage to the land of light."
Eute shakes his head, saying only,
"Puragotio..."
Balt replies,
"Now Eute, none of that speak, you know there is no such thing as life before the caverns, you know."
Newwaradhbh's muttering grows louder,
"Some walk through, wall of blue, the way out find, leave one behind. Some walk through, wall of blue..."
Suffice to say... your group members are a bit disturbed by these four men.

You decide to keep them talking, trying to learn more from them.
"No," says Balt.
"We don't remember anything about the outside world, if there even is one... you four probably don't remember much either." (you don't remember anything)
"It was long ago... but... I remember the colors... I was red... Petep, you were blue, correct?" He nods.
"We've been here 35 marks." He indicates chalk marks on the wall.
"It was originally days... but we don't know how long a day is anymore... so, so hungry..."
As you look around, you see the torch on the wall is the same red color that yours is. The mats on the ground are a reddish brown color, grey, and two are black. Other than that... the walls seem to have been scratched at, a long time ago. There are a few pieces of chalk on the ground.
"What is it that your friend over there is saying?"
"Newwaradhbh? Nonsense, utter nonsense. He's been saying that ever since he took to roaming around these corridors by himself. He doesn't always stay with us, and pray."
After walking for some time,
Aylina begins talking to the four new men, and the green girl walks up to you.
"I swiped the chalk for you, saw you looking at them. I don't trust these people at all, they're not right in the head."
Suddenly, the tunnel opens up into a room that looks like a cathedral. There are three rows of pews, angled toward an altar. On top of the altar there is an effigy of a rat. Behind this altar, there is a stained glass window, depicting rays of light coming from this rat.
"The great one..." Balt says in awe.
"This is where we worship, please join us." He goes into a pew and kneels, along with Petep and Eute.
Aylina shrugs, and kneels with them.
The red girl notices a tunnel leading out of the room to the left, and goes to look down it, but Balt glares at her, and in a deathly serious tone says,
"Dare not go into the lair of the great one. They do not like being disturbed."
She shrugs, and goes across the room, to another tunnel. She walks slowly toward it, but does not get yelled at this time.
Meanwhile, Nedwaradhbh goes up to the stained glass window, and crawls through a hole in the bottom of the window.
Lithri goes to follow him.
You follow the two behind the stained glass window to see... a small room ,lit by a grey glowing torch.
Nedwaradhbh points at the walls, covered in words. "Some walk through, wall of blue, the way out find, leave one behind." "4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42" "Don't fear the dark" "The cake is a lie." "Dig deep, answers seek. Climb high, reach the sky." "Two by two, hands of blue." "Wing, fang, claw" "Men are rats."
For once, you notice he's quiet.
From the other room, you hear a commotion. Both you and
Lithri walk out to see the other three men, stilling sitting in their pews, looking down the cave they identified as lair of the great one. The noise comes from there, and you see dozens of rats coming toward all of you. On the way by, they bite each of the men at the pew, and some bite
Aylina before running out of the room through other tunnels.
"Welcome to our pack," Balt says to her.
"I see now what the arrival of your group means to us now that they have imprinted their wisdom on us."
"Wisdom? All they did was bite me."
"Oh, I am sure of it. The great one has not sent us meat in so long, and now, they have. I'm sorry, new friends, but you're our new meal."
With that,
Petep bites
Aylina,
Balt and
Eute move to attack you and
Lithri.
Nedwaradhbh stays in his room. The red girl is nowhere to be seen.
Once the three of you get your heads together, the three men are quickly taken down... meaning killed. You pull your axe out of
Balt, while
Aylina and
Lithri take care of the other two.
"Well, they turned out to be crazy."
"Oww... He bites really hard." She says, rubbing her now bleeding wound.
"So what do we do now?"
"Get the other two, and look for a way out."
"Two?"
"Yeah, Nedwaradhbh."
"You want to take one of them with us?"
"He didn't do anything!"
"It doesn't matter. He was with them, he's probably dangerous. I feel sorry for the guy, but we can't risk our safety."
You go back for
Nedwaradhbh, and when you come out,
Lithri shakes her head, but smiles when
Nedwaradhbh looks at her.
"We need to keep moving," you say, and lead the way down the newest path, where the red girl went, being sure to avoid where the rats came from. Although you want to treat
Aylina's wound, there is nothing you can use for medicine.
You continue down the path, and eventually catch up with the red girl, walking back toward your group.
"A few rats went by, what happened? I heard yelling." A short explanation later,
"Well, I don't know what you're hoping to find ahead, but I wouldn't go that way."
Following her, she shows you a large pool of water. But instead of looking like water, it is pitch black.
You take one of the extra torches from the prayer room, and drop it into the dark water. The flame goes out.
When you throw a rock into the water... it skips once, before sinking.
Deciding that the water might not be good, you head back to where the rats came from. As you continue to walk down the path, you wrinkle your noses from the smell. You find a small room, with the floor mostly covered in rat crap. It seems to be the nest of the rats, but since they were disturbed, none are here.
In your searching, you don't find any items, but you do find a spot in the ground that seems weaker than the rest. There is a hole to a room below, from which light seems to be coming.
Everyone looks disgusted as you wrap up some of the rat crap, but you think, at some point, Chekov may be proud.
You turn to
Nedwaradhbh, looking for answers. He doesn't say anything, and backs away when you speak to him.
"Hey, back off, you're scaring the poor guy."
"Look, he's the only one who knows this place, and has been here for a while. He needs to give us answers, or he's as good to us as his cannibal friends."
Nedwaradhbh's eyes grow wide when you mention the others, and he shakes his head.
"See, he's not like them!"
"That doesn't mean anything."
As
red and
Aylina argue, you try talking to him again, more softly.
"Do you know anything about this place that can help us?"
Nedwaradhbh shakes his head. Your hand reaches toward where you keep your rat crap, and
Nedwaradhbh whispers,
"Never been off this floor. No way down."
After he says this, you all notice the light coming from the floor go out for a second, and then shine through again.
As you look down the hole, you see nothing for a few minutes, but eventually, a cloaked figure appears, for just a second in your sight.
"What are you looking at?" Aylina comes over to try and look too, followed by the others.
The ground below you drops the slightest bit, and through the hole, you see some rocks fall to the floor in the room below.
The cloaked figure appears, once again directly under your peep hole, and points forward (you guess toward the room of worship, and pool of darkness), before moving away again.
