The example about the guard doesn't make it sound like you'd be up to anything good though. And I am just saying that kinda stuff could be a really slippery slope. We are all familiar with the concept of power corrupting and we all know how much power a character has when they can control the will of others.
I think it would be okay to Suggest that a bandit go home and think about his life choices rather than fight us. Stuff like that. I don't think it would be evil to Suggest a guard go take a break or something if the alternative is violently neutralizing him.
I am no expert at D&D alignment nor Admiral's interpretations thereof, and most things are case by case, but it's stuff like that I intend to do, not "Give me all your money" "Walk down this hallway and trigger all the traps" etc
Charm and compulsion can absolutely be a viable and morally consistent strategy for a Good character. Much like detect thoughts, it depends on how you use it. It would obviously be appropriate in any situation where an alternative is using nonlethal damage to beat someone unconscious.
I don't want you to think from my earlier kibosh on using detect thoughts indiscriminately that I treat my DM role as a morality policeman.
Now, finally, to the IC posts! Thank you for your patience!
Feeling more confident that she has a moment to herself she sighs. "Jeeze no kidding about this place being a little dangerous for someone outside of the guilds. Perhaps a more intimidating appearance will benefit me for the rest of this little walk." She sets her mind to it and her features begin to morph. Her whole body swells, puffing itself into a muscular form and sprouts a coat of fur. Her ears grow out into long furry points and tusks push out of her bottom jaw. She then commands her armor accordingly and inspects her work. Looking down at her pointed nails and furry body she is pleased with the look though can't help but frown as she runs her tongue against her teeth. The oversized chompers were a tad uncomfortable. Then continues her way to the guild hall.

Is this possible within the "Minor Change Shape" ability? Minor Change Shape works within the same limits as the disguise self spell, which says:
Quote:
You can seem 1 foot shorter or taller, thin, fat, or in between. You cannot change your body type. Otherwise, the extent of the apparent change is up to you. You could add or obscure a minor feature or look like an entirely different person.
I think it's clear you can be a different race, and I suppose bugbears are humanoids. OK, let's go with it, as long as you're within 1 foot of height from your normal height.
I'd be a bit short but I think it still falls within the rules. If you want to rule that I can't I understand and I can just swap out into something else though.
Yeah but I'd be careful with the whole lie detector, magical x-ray vision thing. It's basically like frisking and searching everyone you come across and I imagine most people aren't too fond of it. Especially if they don't have a way to identify what you're doing. (BIG HINT)
Verden is probably going to ignore peoples privacy slightly more than is strictly "good" in his search for knowledge, but otherwise he will adhere to the good allignment.
He does want to be good, but his curiosity often overrides his common sense.

Arcane sight is less intrusive than detect thoughts, so it's OK (if a little bit rude) to use it sometimes. But since it makes your eyes go blue, any spellcaster is just an easy Spellcraft check away from figuring out what you're doing- it just might get you in trouble.
... My character is an oracle and inquisitor... being suspicious and using many divination type spells is part of his role...
Nothing wrong with that (with just cause) but constantly using it on everyone is excessive. Police don't go around interrogating everyone they meet nor do they pat everyone down.

Standard for inquisitor (I think) is using detect evil... at least if he is to travel or work with someone. Other spells are additional.

Two things, first I want everyone to envision a bugbear doing a sexy swagger.
Yeah I just put that image in your head.
Second I tried finding visual aid for the latest look of Rahne's but I couldn't find anything that wasn't to skank-tastic. I am sure you can imagine what a woman sitting cross legged in a chair would look like. Now make that image a tiny bit sexy and an elf and you are set visually.
This is getting very interesting .
Sorry about the clipped post, I'm on my way off to school and don't want to hold up the game for the seven or so hours I'm away.
Whew- I think that's everyone (so much writing- Let's never split the party again! )
ETA: The reasons posts have been taking so long is that, with my schedule, I can take time to write this much only in occasional bursts. The longer it takes to write posts, the rarer they will be (again, having four separate threads to keep running does make it slower than it will usually be!)
I invite you to tell me if you'd rather the posts be shorter and more frequent (like a printer that has a setting for "High quality" versus "High speed"). I try to provide texture when possible in the form of unnecessary details about the world, and I also sometimes have NPCs monologue. If you'd rather I kept the posts more utilitarian so I can write them faster and more often, please say so!

I've been happy with my shoreline so far, though the syndicate does keep things mostly to the point.
I was wondering how you were gonna keep us all together in the future since we are all from different guilds.

There is always a plan. OOC: It does require the slightest bit of character cooperation. Many of you are getting offered lucrative jobs (as opposed to citizenships). Needless to say, if you accepted a job and ran off to, say, work as a security guard in one of the Firm's mining operations, it would put a pretty swift end to this party (I hope I don't have to spell that out!)
Remember that guild citizens are free to hang out and adventure with citizens in other guilds. In fact, a multi-guild party has a great advantage in its contacts and privileges.

So I can use my allies to spy on the other guilds mwahahahahaha!
JK still not evil
Its weird to think of them having common interests that don't end with each house wanting something for them. Like both the firm and the institute send people on a mission to get a magic item. Each of them wants the item in the end, what do?
Institute and Firm negotiate a deal whereby the Institute are allowed the item for the purposes of reverse-engineering the enchantments, so they can make more of it. After that, it passes to The Firm.
With the mass-production of the item, however, it loses value, so The Institute will have to pay The Firm a sum of money in recompense.

It's important to remember that Guild citizenship is not like a job- it is analogous to citizenship in a country. You pay taxes and receive certain benefits, and are expected not to act directly against the guild's interests (not kill other citizens, trespass on guild property...) However, not everything you do has to be for a guild: you're free to adventure on your own. Even if a quest comes from the Church, for example, you could all carry it out as a group.
(Having said that, obviously complications will arise, which is part of the fun of this setting!)
Hey are we still going to do things with this campaign?
Yes. Sorry for the delay in posting- sometimes my schedule makes it very difficult to be consistent, and I usually try not to sacrifice quality for frequency. But this last delay is much longer than I'd like, yes. Everyone will get updated today.
Incidentally, while i normally never like to push character's actions, the sooner the party leaves the guildhalls, the sooner play will speed up

I like being updated! And I am done with my debate so hopefully my time there will go quickly.
