Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! Our next combat I'll try something else. While I'm tempted by the Google Doc, it might simply be easier to post up a grid with everyone's starting positions and update occasionally as players state their motion; I just need to pick software to make the grid, something I can use quickly.
Chances are we'll run through more than one experiment (this is my first time DMing PbP, so that's the nature of it).
Lexin, this is excellent. Everyone take a look at the map (you'll need a google account)- I made a couple of small adjustments and we'll consider this the ground truth from now on.
I like the look of Google Docs for maps, so our next combat will be done the same way. (It is especially convenient that you can move your own character).
Let's try this whole flanking thing again. That assassin that isn't webbed has to be adjacent to someone besides just me right.
Missmvicious- to clarify, both of the attackers are entangled by the web, just one of them is prevented from moving until he breaks out. See the description of the web spell.
Furthermore, see the map. The only spaces that could flank with Mirus are S9 (to threaten A2, which you wouldn't want to do since he's the enchanted one) and Q9 (to threaten A1). Both these would require stepping into the web and becoming entangled
Finally, this is metagame, but I wouldn't put too much stock in being able to flank these two anyway... (it's the party's first combat so I don't mind letting a few hints slip by- don't count on it in the future!)
They are probably assasins, or rogues, so they likely have Improved Evasion.
Doesn't attacking the charmed one's ally allow him a second will save?
I think you mean Improved Uncanny Dodge, and I am always gonna try to go for flanking because it doubles my damage potential, grants me +4 to hit and I can deal two points of Str damage and that should apply even to people with Improved Uncanny Dodge I think.

No, it doesn't. Characters with Improved Uncanny Dodge can't be sneak attacked except by a character with at least four more rogue levels than them. No sneak attack means no additional damage dice or points of Str damage.
(Flanking is normally +2 to hit: do you have a feat or magic item that improves it to +4?)

They still can be sneak attacked, just not by flanking.
One easy way to grant sneak attack is a ...wand chamber (it was called something like that, it is in Dungeonscape and allows keeping a wand inside a weapon and costs 200gp) + Eternal wand of swift invisibility (820 gp)
It gets you 3 free sneak attacks / day.
Much more expensive is ring of blinking, I am quite sure that you always sneak attack when blinking.

So first of all I do have a feat that makes it a +4 for flanking, its the Vexing Flanker.
Also I have the Savvy Rogue feat which improves some of the rogue's special abilities. In the case of the crippling strike it says that it makes it so you can still do the 2 points of strength damage to characters who are normally immune to extra damage from sneak attacks (with the feat) so I think that would apply if I were going against another rogue, I just wouldn't get the super mega awesome sneak attack damage also.

But Uncanny Dodge (regular) lets them keep their Dex bonus when flatfooted etc., so they can't be sneak attacked that way either. (Admittedly they can still be sneak attacked when tied up or hold personed).

Not against an opponent with Uncanny Dodge:
Quote:
Uncanny Dodge (Ex): Starting at 4th level, a rogue can react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She retains her Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if she is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker [emphasis mine].

Excellent, this explains everything precisely. Thanks.
Before we leave combat, do Mirus or Morgunn want to do anything (still their turns)?
I will write it in OoC, Morgunn would prepare action to dispel magic, as he doesn't have free attempts anymore, he would also use move action to walk to the dead/unconscious assassin, and checks which one is it.
