Weird paths, perhaps, but when you have a single rock that looks like something from the Lion King, there's usually a fight.
Speaking of which, a howl sounds out, and a large wolf like beast leaps onto the rock. On the ridges by its neck, a silver camera hangs. And now, cue the battle transition. (music)
"Darth Cuddlepie?" Another member of their party that didn't last. Vincent knew he should have stripped the guy's gear for cash.
"Rocks usually mean all sorts of weird paths and backtracking." Can be quite dangerous!
Vincent heads right on in, unless Caroline protests further.
Caroline follows. Yeah, Cuddlepie. Whatever happened to him?

Caroline is surprised by the suddeness of the battle transition, and is slow to react.
As the world returns to a more stable state, we have the wolf-beast facing across the pair, and three of the balls of blue light also with it. The beast leaps over the bugs and tries to swipe at Caroline. Fast monster, isn't it?
Suppose since Vincent's next in terms of speed, he'll go.
"Watch out with attacking those bugs."
It's a nasty little system this boss battle's got going. Can't get close to the wolf without dealing with the swarms. And physical attacks against the swarms are probably going to hurt too.
Vincent does a measly Fire 1 against bug group 1. He's really much better at buffing the party and attacking than he is with offensive magic.

Caroline closes her eyes and concentrates. Her hands begin to glow and she thrusts them toward the wolf-beast. Lightning! and a bolt of lightning shots from between her hands toward the creature. It could do moderate damage.
Well, good thing for Vincent that Thunderbugs are weak to fire, and have very low hps. Bug group 1 is defeated. However, Caroline just made a big mistake. You see, Purple-hat left something very important when he gave them this quest. That this creature, is a lightning wolf-beast.
Therefore the bolt does little damage, and the spikes on its body stand up. You just gave it a stat boost, making it stronger and faster. And now, it tries a charge at Vincent.
Owwwww... that really hurt.
Vincent figures he probably shouldn't take another of those raw, so casts the classic attack/defense buff.
Fortunately he leveled over time since the last time we saw this in use and now it affects the whole party! There's a buff in there for Caroline too.
Eats up a lot of his MP though. Yeesh.

The two thunderbugs fly over and try attacking Caroline. They can sense your fear of them, my dear, and they feast upon it and your flesh! Or just try shocking her. Either works.
(I was joking about the flesh.)

*Zap!* Caroline is zapped by one of the Thunderbugs. While the other attaches itself to her arm and begins eating at it. Ooooww! Get it off! She starts waving her arm up and down to fling it away.
And now there's only one bug group left. And the large, electrical wolf monster, which has leaped at Vincent. Watch out for those claws, those things hurt.
Caroline takes aim at the last Thunderbug Group, firing a bursting flame dart. (She uses a dart gun as her primary weapon. Just in case you didn't know. )
Well it's not Vincent is the ninja archetype/class and has a high dodge. He really just has to take it. Doesn't hurt quite as bad as last time, but it does still hurt.
Vincent will use the last of his mp to give his sword the fire enchantment. Bonus fire damage!
Really needs to switch out of that fishscale armor though. It's really hurting him here.

The last group of thunderbugs falls, which causes the beast to let out a howl, giving up its turn to summon a trio of the thunderbug groups. Perhaps Annie might figure out that letting bug that use electric attacks remain around a wolf beast that powers up on lightning is a bad idea.
(Before King's Blood Field)
Serph the Pyromancer sits on the base of a tree eating sour-candy. He heard that this place was a place where monsters attacked left and right. Monsters mean loot so here he is.
In another tree, one nearby, sits a beautiful gold-haired fae, with solid black eyes, wearing a quiver made from some sort of leather - those familiar with... exotic... materials might recognize it as the tanned skin of a human - on her right hip, filled with arrows of various sorts, and carrying an expertly made bow in her left hand.
Gesturing at the tree Serph sits under, she murmurs a simple incant...
"Wood, I stake a claim upon his life
Help me now begin this strife.
Hawk who rode the east wind here
May my sight as yours be clear.
West wind, west wind, more than friend
Guide this shaft for his life's end."
Moments after she finishes it, a myriad of heavy branches, the smallest of which is as big around as her fist, splinter from the tree with an ominous creaking.
As it does, Spreagadh, who has had several hundred years of practice with a bow, and has keener senses than most mortals even when they're not magically enhanced, launches an arrow at him, aiming to pierce his skull, something she's aided in by the sudden appearance of a rather strong wind, guiding it towards him.
Of course, if he notices her, it is possible to interrupt any of that...

Serph swallowed the last of his sour candy. He may not have super keen senses, only battle enhanced senses, its hard not to notice ominous creaking sounds, you know? "Guess I'm up" He says this in a fast manner that makes his words slur together. A blast of fire meets the arrow. Serph is longer where he sat moments ago. he blast was a distraction so hopefully he wasn't seen going to the other side of the tree he was sitting by. The blast also burns the front of the tree to create smoke also the fire will likely spread. Serph uses more of his pyrotechs to heat up a radius of 25 paces. anything within that range should feel like they're cooking in a desert.
(* 1 pace is two footsteps and the heat most likely didn't reach you but its just to make the place burn faster.)
"North wind, north wind, frozen crone
Howling down from peaks alone
Let ice form here on blasted stone."
As the second spell finishes, an icy wind howls through the forest, flames guttering and dying before it, and the temperature dropping sufficiently to freeze the sap in the trees, causing some of the smaller ones to explode...

"Guessthisishowmagicusersfightkindaannoyinghowthey canusemultipleelementsmehohwell." His words slur more as it gets chilly. He keeps the desert heat pyrotech to battle with the cold winds. Using a different pyrotech he launches a fireball the size of a bear up to the sky just above the trees. The fireball launches smaller fireballs the size of heads at the archer's general direction 6 fireballs a turn. Serph just stays behind the tree preparing something.
