Well, I would say the problem there would be that if you have knowledge results given like that OOC two things occur. 1) We still don't know that stuff IC so we still then have to go through with finding it out IC. 2) It could lead to potential abuse of knowledge or such we decide to ignore because we didn't find it out IC.
Also, it kinda defeats the point of having to roll if you'd get to know without having to roll. So most likely all Vesth is going to tell you is that it's a magical crystal ball and that you have to actually examine it IC to find out anything.
And yes, there's a point to doing that IC. It means the knowledge/events happened IC and we aren't having our characters either sitting around because they don't know stuff that we do or are having them act on information/events that they aren't actually aware of.

It's not getting information without rolling it's Vesth rolling for the kid and telling the information the kid would know and then IC the kid says a close approximation of that information.
Vesth would still have to say the information for the kid to repeat IC in any case so why have more IC posts when the information can easily be put in one IC post?
And yeah the orb was mostly the only feature in the cave so why not spend time talking about it? there is the path but people are interested in the orb so. . .

Oh, that's what you wanted to do? That wasn't clear (to me at least).
Still, since Vesth didn't answer just now (unless it was in a PM or something), you should probably roll (I assume Arcana?).
And yeah, the orb is right there, of course we'd focus on it first and then exploring the cave. What if it was "the orb of sealing the cave behind the impatient morons"? Always gotta be on the lookout for those.

Is it a d20 roll with an addition of 10, or is it a different roll?
Stating intentions clearly is clearly not a strong point for us.

And then Mountain smashed his ring because I hate purple....
Edit: Vesth, can you add a link to the homebrew thing where the rings are that you referenced? Possibly on the first post of this or the IC thread so it's easy to find in the future?

Edit: I forgot to mention Mountain tacking out a torch and placing it in his miner's helmet and now I'm afraid to edit the post for fear of screwing up my roll or something.

Should I make a Perception check? Or would it be better if I did something Natury, with the +9 mod? I don't know if 'cave' counts as nature, but I could... search for bats? Use echo location? I have low-light vision, does that help in any way? Is it even dark? What are we even looking for?
I think I'm just going to watch, learn and rp.

Well, those of us that are doing it, we're doing it because you never know when the GM will throw traps/secrets/hiding monsters at you. Honestly, we're most likely being overly cautious but, until we get a handle on Vesth's style, better safe than sorry.
You probably could make a nature check about something but, you'd have to have an idea for what. Otherwise the GM is likely to taunt you with random factoids about the moss growing on the walls and the type of rock. (Actually that might happen with our perception checks too.)
One thing I will note though, you search stuff with Perception, not anything else (unless there's a really good excuse). Nature is primarily a knowledge skill that you can also use for a couple other random things like dealing with animals, hunting/foraging, tracking, etc.
Low-light vision would be helping you depending on just how dark this cave is....if I hadn't lit a torch (because enough of us, including my character, don't have any special vision).

*looks at the Grimmace's updated sheet* Well, still missing age, hp, healing surges, actions points (1), daily item powers per day (1 heroic), should probably fill in the quick lookup stuff for the longsword (+3, 1d8), and did you seriously spend all of your money?
You don't seem to have included any class bonuses to defenses. Nor did you put your skill bonuses in the skill chart (just slot them into Misc). Should probably fill in physical description at some point. Nor did you put down your class granted powers (I suggest down at the bottom of the thing). And...oh....oh no. You didn't. Glib Limerick. Oh. No............ (Matthias at least will know why I'm reacting this way.)
Edit 2: Though still, much better than it was.
Edit: And I'm still trying to figure out why your roll in the IC thread didn't work. Maybe you needed a space between [Arcana] and the rolling?

It could have been from previewing the post.
But edits will do that as well.

Sure, action points are awesome. You use them to make extra attacks or you're totally wasting them.
Ok, real explanation. Action points are awesome. You are set to 1 after an extended rest no matter how many/few you had before. You gain 1 every milestone (two encounters (combat or otherwise) in a row without an extended rest). You can use them to gain an extra action of any type during your turn (I think it's only during your turn, would be amusing to see someone use one for an extra opportunity or reaction though). You may only use 1 per encounter. A lot of paragon paths add effects/alternate uses to the use of action points, as do some classes I believe, and feats. Typically though you use them for a second standard action (the type of action most attacks are) in combat.
Edit: It keeps surprising me how much Mountain wishes to say. My original intent for him was to have very little dialog. Admittedly this isn't a ton or anything but, he's saying about twice as much as I was expecting.

And Chee is much more quite at this point, but that is do to sleep patterns on this end.
Anyway the kid is a fan of the heavy handed approach when it comes to most things so it's no problem to him that mountain just kicked down a door.
