Default Sting of Life [3.5e Template][Please PEACH]

Note: This Template was originally created by RogueSpyder, but I was asked to modify it and post it here.

Yelp

A Yelp is a twisted shell of a humanoid which has been afflicted with the horrid Yelp Fever, or created by Necromasters.

Upon turning into a Yelp a creatures flesh goes pale, it loses all its hair, its eyes turn blood shot, and its sense of sight is empowered. A Yelp grows a stinger, which is located in their right wrist, hidden by a skin hood when not in use and protruding out, past the hand like a spike when in use.

The minds of the Yelp are feral yet strangely retain any intelligence or wisdom they had in their life. This generally causes these deathless to be cunning in the hunt of flesh.

Sample Yelp
Here is a sample Yelp using a level two Fighter Karmainian as the base creature.

Size/Type: Medium Deathless
Hit Dice: 2d10 (11 hp)
Initiative: +6
Speed: 30 ft. (6 squares)
Armor Class: 16 (+3 Dex, +3 natural), touch 13, flat-footed 13
Base Attack/Grapple: +2/+2
Attack: Sting +2 melee (1d6 plus paralysis+ 1d8 Strike)

Environment: Any
Organization: Solitary, gang (2–4), or pack (7–12)

Fighting Traditions (Ex): This ghoul has the Savage Slayer Fighter Tradition. As such his Strike dice are increased to d8 and he can can use the Intimidate Skill to Demoralize an enemy as a Swift Action.

Paralysis (Ex): Those hit by a Yelp’s sting or claw attack must succeed on a DC 12 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1d4+1 rounds. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Strike (Ex): The Fighter has a pool of damage dice he can allocate to successful attacks each round. On a successful attack, the fighter may add any or all of his Strike dice to the damage inflicted by his attack. Once Strike dice are added to an attack, they are effectively “spent” until the beginning of your next turn.

Yelp Fever (Su): Disease—Sting, Fortitude DC 12, incubation period 1 day, damage 1d3 Con and 1d3 Dex. The save DC is Charisma-based.

An afflicted humanoid who dies from Yelp Fever rises as a yelp at the next noon. The humanoid gains the Yelp Template. It is not under the control of any other Yelps, but it hungers for the flesh of the living and behaves like a normal Yelp in all respects.

Yelp Template
“Yelp” is an acquired template that can be added to any Humanoid, or Monstrous Humanoid creature (refered to hereafter as the base creature).

A Yelp uses the base creature's stats and abilities except as noted here.

CR: Same as the base creature + 1.

Type: The creature’s type changes to Deathless. Do not recalculate base attack bonus, saves, or skill points gained by class levels. Size is unchanged.

Senses: A Yelp gains darkvision 60 ft.

Armor Class: Natural armor improves by +3.

Hit Dice: Change all racial Hit Dice to d12s. Class Hit Dice are unaffected.

Defensive Abilities: A Yelp gains +2 turn resistance. Also a yelp with 5 or more HD gains fast healing 5 as long as he is in bright light.

Speed: Same as the base creature.

Melee: A Yelp gains a primary stinger attack and two secondary claw attacks, unless the base creature already has a stinger attack or Claw attacks. The damage of these attacks is determined by size.

Special Attacks: A Yelp gains the following Special Attacks:

Paralysis (Ex): Those hit by a Yelp’s stinger or claw attack must succeed on a DC 12 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1d4+1 rounds. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Yelp Fever (Su): Disease—sting, Fortitude DC 12, incubation period 1 day, damage 1d3 Con and 1d3 Dex. The save DC is Charisma-based.

An afflicted humanoid or monstrous humanoid who dies from Yelp Fever rises as a Yelp at the next noon. The humanoid or monstrous humanoid gains the Yelp Template. It is not under the control of any other yelps, but it hungers for the flesh of the living and behaves like a normal yelp in all respects.

Special Qualities: A Yelp gains the Hidden Sting Special Quality.

Hidden Sting (Ex): A Yelp's stinger is concealed until it is used in an attack. While concealed it can't be located via mundane means or disarmed. Once the Yelp has attacked it can hide its Stinger again as a free action.

Ability Scores As a Deathless, Yelp lose their constitution score.

Skills Yelps gain a +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks per 5 HD.

LA: 10 HD and below +2, above 10 HD +1.
