Vardoth's assault on the ogre was unsuccessful in killing him, and the little warlock was able to escape through a complex tumble that looked more like a Cat's Mistake than a Cat's Grace. Still, he was twenty feet from the ogre -- and about ten feet from any other individual. It was worth noting Vardoth was near the green cloud.
What.
Although I did snicker at the Cat's Mistake thing.
In other news, I too think it's cool how you use incantations, Cardea. May I ask if they are actual words, or are you just making them up?
Although this may be tempting fate, I think the dice gods like me just fine. I just noticed that I rolled a natural 20 on my Tumble check, after rolling a natural 1 last turn. Coincidence? I think not.
They're roughly 50 feet from the creature, and the green cloud extends 30 feet in all directions (which is how Vardoth got to the edge of the cloud after tumbling backwards 20 feet).
EDIT: Who are you shooting the scorching ray at?

Ash and Galizur both attack the great green creature, which has been busy smashing other touched. Neither attack appears to have any great impact on the creature, and it turns around to look at the ghost who had just hit it. With a bestial roar, it backhanded the corporeal ghost and pushed him back ten feet!
A human with a shield and sword came at Ash, taking a wild swing and missing completely.
Twenty six remained alive.
You may have missed the bold part Strainseir. He will get a AoO on you if you charge green guy. Just wanted to make sure you didn't miss it.

If it's all the same to y'all, I want Strainseir to confirm that he wants to take an Attack of Opportunity to the face before reporting this round of combat.
I hope y'all don't mind this. I understand this is slow and ponderous, but to be fair it was a battle royal with forty nine contestants and an untried DM. So please do forgive me! But if you find this has been so odious as to offend you irreparably, I'll understand if you'd care to leave.
I just hope you don't.

... well, guess I'll bite first.
You're fine.
Its a very large battle, and you're very new to PbP. Its a bit much to deal with, and we're quite aware of it. You needn't be so worrisome.
As for pacing, again, its fine. Its a new PbP. Our characters have dialogue-synergy, which means when we're roleplaying together, we don't need much in the way of prompts/prompting. You've given a very fair amount of fluff. And the posts you give are very long, descriptive and interesting.
And most of all, you keep us in the loop. You tell us ahead of time when you're going to post. You maintain communication. You tell us exactly what we ask, and you have thus far been incredibly fair; even during the Recruitment thread.
You're doing everything right so far when it comes to DMing a PbP game.
About the only thing that would really upset me at this point would be if I couldn't, for some reason, loot these bodies, devour their items and animate some bodies. But I mean, hell, you could probably come up with a good reason in-game for me not to be able to do that. And I wouldn't even be that upset, since, again, you're doing a bang-up job.

Sorry my posting rate dropped of the deep end. MY life went to ****, it is better, and I am here. Very sorry I will post much more now. In retrospect I should have noticed and posted by now. I will take the Aoo just because I deserve to be smacked.

It'll be a few hours because I cannot post combat from my phone, but you'll have an update today. The first boss battle is already underway!
One of the mechanics that must intrigues me about video games is the prolonged boss battles. It's something I haven't been able to 'port' over into D&D, and something I'm trying to do. That means the big bosses with the interesting (well, interesting to me ) fight mechanic that takes multiple rounds. That each round is 6 seconds makes it silly to me to consider that already like over half the contestants are dead.
So like, 18 seconds later, poof, dead.
Therefore, I ask for your further indulgence and understanding that the bosses you'll face have very high health and will require teamwork to defeat. I will not introduce "fight mechanics" that you must use in order to win, although I might drop indicators of terrain or suchlike that you could use so that you might win more easily.
Think of the TOXIC BELLOWS being used on the SPIDER QUEEN of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. (Any unfamiliar with the game may be confused about the capital letters above. Long story short, there's a very, very hammy narrator.) It's not necessary but it might be useful.
Also, there's not much you'd want to loot and the bodies won't be much use to you after the boss fight, so I apologize in advance for ruining your necromantic and kleptomaniacal aspirations.

Fights do tend to be over quickly in real life. There's not really any of the super long back and forth sword fights, so six seconds make sense. The only problem is...super long back and forth sword fights are cool.
Boss fights are also cool, and I like the idea of teamwork. Perhaps I should have invested in White Raven Maneuvers...
And as for looting, you underestimate your players if you think there's nothing we would want to loot. There's always something to loot, even if we have to take the dead enemy's teeth(I've seen it happen).
You can't really produce the same lengthy battles that you see in video games into DnD. The best you can do, without straying too much from DnD, is the kind of fights you see in the Dragon Age: Series.
And I hated that damn boss in Gauntlet. Killed my Knight so many damn times.
... I mean, Retain Essence will make be used liberally, when it comes to the magic items we won't want to use. Consumables will be kept to be, well, consumed. And I mean, an Ogre corpse is still an Ogre corpse. Saying there's 'not much' I'd want to use isn't gonna deter me or rain on my parade.

The only person with Knowledge (Dungeoneering) didn't put even a single rank in there. Y'all've got no idea what it is, whether it's looking healthy or not, et cetera.

I'm on a trip until sunday, feel free to DM-puppet my character if I'm not posting in a timely manner until I get back (I'll only have my phone to post from).
We'll see if it's necessary. You just charged someone with Steadfast Boots, which might end up making Dejas a great deal less happy. I don't want to force your character to do something he wouldn't do, but if need be Dejas will make sure he stays alive. Never fear!
And thank you for the forewarning. I'll post the results of this round once I get home.
EDIT: I'm waiting to see if Silver Night wants to post, since he should be back by now, before posting the results of this round.

Technically he wasn't meant for anyone in 'particular.' Every time y'all've taken a new combatant, I roll a die to see which one of the forty four you were going to face. So many of those poor character sheets never saw actual combat. On the up side, I can recycle them into future encounters! On the down side, you all get neither their loot nor their experience.
Spiked chains + steadfast boots are one of my favorite combinations. Get used to it: it's the hallmark of one of the heresies...
