BACKSTORY
Spoiler
Notes: Lost Administrator on the Former Weapon Platform 'Star Slayer' that the TITAN's left behind. Becomes a Data Courier (and other shady data things that can happen when required) for a Hypercorp who rescues her from the Data system she was trapped/protected by.
Detailed stuff:
The darkness was pushed away and a ghostly red light flickers nearby. I sensed it too and I stir from the nightmare, a nightmare I wanted to remain inside. The light is replaced with words, words that I cannot seem to read. A loud sound was echoing in this empty black space, while I hung from my wrists by a chain in the ceiling. I move my legs, or try to, they too are bound to a chain, a chain that does not have any give in it. My mind was sluggish, my thoughts only upon the darkness where the frightening beings called to me, wanted me, desires to have me. The sound continues and the words are joined by others. The room I hung inside was spherical, formed of hex shaped panels. With tired eyes I glance to the words and frown, for a moment I felt strands of my jet black hair to slide against a shoulder and down a large breast. A voice joins the alarming sound.
“Third Defense Line failing. Damage to physical protective systems has exceeded twenty five percent.”
Where am I? Who am I? The mental question is left unanswered as the alarms continue to blare.
My eyes open more, their emerald green gleaming softly in the red light of emergency signs and light flares. My mind waking from the nightmare begins to work faster, stronger, and I fight to regain my identity. Titania… I wince as a sharp pain stabs into my mind and I slump in my bindings.
“Second Defense Line failing. Preparing Emergency transmission of Administrator Ego.”
Another voice reaches me causing me to tremble in fear. “BREAK YOUR BONDS, JOIN US.”
The voice, the ever present one in the nightmare, punished my refusals before, tortured me to hear my cries, and forged my dreamself into a nightmare mesh of machine and human form. While the fear remained the time in that nightmare had made me comfortable with thought of leaving my human form forever behind. Still was I dreaming or was I back into reality? Would I be punished for my desired refusal?
“Unable to transmit, signal is being jammed. Strengthening Primary Defense Line.” The room became brighter suddenly and I am forced to closed my eyes to the light. I hear the sounds of machinery, and I crack open an eye to spy several nasty looking needle like devices coming towards me. I squirm against my bindings, and moan in misery.
No… please no…
“Primary Defense Line Engaged. Activating Administrator Ego, Heart of Star Slayer Weapon System.”
The alarms cease, and a crack forms in the walls. The needles stop before me, their tips glowing softly with red light. Pain… I didn’t like pain, it was everywhere, and I couldn’t take much. I close my eyes and await the pain that was to come.
“Primary Defense Line breached, enemy target breaching Virtual Containment Wall.”
“Well well, what have we here? An Infomorph administration controlling system in a Simulspace construct?” I crack open my eyes and find a strange looking woman standing there, with a skintight outfit. “Levi, identify this person.”
No pain? None yet. I stare at the woman now with distrustful eyes. This woman should not have been here.
Her face reveals several layers of surprise. “ID unknown? Hey! You there, who are you, why is your program warped.”
ID? Titania. Warped? Unknown. My mental words are displayed as words before this invader via a small holographic screen.
“Damaged, yet functional,” the woman frowns and looks at me thoughtfully. “Nothing a little bit of memory editing won’t fix. Undo her bindings and upload her to my ghostrider module, also prepare a special home for our… guest.”
The chains vanish and before I could fall to the ground I find myself sitting in a chair with a viewscreen before me, and the physical world displayed. I learned in that moment, that I didn’t have a human form anymore. My home as it had been these very long but short three years, was a sphere of metal and spikes that had launched from an unmonitored section of the Earth, whether by design of the sphere or just plain lax security the sphere had tumbled into the hands of a Criminal group specializing in Infomorph slavery. My life suddenly became harder.
---
For a few years I worked as a datamine slave, sometimes forced into other less pleasant things, but most the time they allowed me to do the things I found myself exceptional at. The virtual world I was consigned to was at least brighter than the initial one, but never far from the pleasure making my mistress desired of me. I learned of the world during this time, a broken world, and a hated transhumanity. I had a curiosity of the Gates and of the Titans, but it was a thing that was restrained in me.
Eventually my mistress learned of something else that I could do, for as much as my data manipulation skills my ability lent more to creation and in that creation an edge of destruction. For the criminal group they gained from me several blueprints and weapon designs. It was this perhaps, as well as a single careless strike in data theft that Gorgon Defense with the help of another group leveraged my mistresses, by gunpoint I might add, in ‘selling’ me for a small price. It didn’t take long for a change of scenery, sure it still was a mix of AR and VR work and living spaces, sure my new mistress was a cold emotionless slave driver who desired the best in AI and Space craft design, but at least now I was getting paid. I have long since forgotten of the chains, of the nightmare, and voice. But my dreams, when my sleep allows it, still show that being and a life at its side as a mechanical synth-angel of vengeance. Lately I have been in training as a bodyguard, an infiltrator, something is happening in the world around me, and if I can get time and money to deploy growing advanced weapons and engine systems then I won’t care if I'm testing my theories out while I blast them. And it appears Mars is the start the troubles that is coming, troubles that I excitedly await to deal with. No longer the timid person found drifting from the Earth, I am now ready to grab my place in this dark and cruel universe.
"Good. My name is Dr. Marco Hietala. I served in the Titanian navy for 21 years, eventually reaching the rank of Read Admiral. I received an Honorable Discharge after the Second Battle of Locus and am now the CEO of Cyclops Materiel and Technology, a microcorp based on Commonwealth Hub. I continue to work in a close partnership with the Titanian Government."
"Why were you discharged from the Navy?"
"That's what everyone wants to know. To tell the truth i never really wanted to be a Naval Officer in the first place. I was more interested in Engineering, specifically Materials Engineering. There weren't two many places you could study that 20 years ago. The Titanian Navy had the best program for their engineering division. I wrote my thesis on the applications of buckminster fullerene in matter-antimatter reactors.
Then the Fall happened. Everyone with even remote affiliations to the military was called into active service. My entrance exams showed i would have been a promising Officer, so it was off to the Fleet. I was myself surprised to find i was very good at my job. At first Astronavigation was tricky, but when you get down to it, its a hell of a lot more straightforward than micromanaging nanotube construction.
So anyway, the Fall happened, and we started rebuilding. Then the Hypercorps got it into their head that they owned everything on the sunward side of the orbit of Jupiter, and they were willing to go to war to defend it. By this time i was a Read Admiral and i was the 2nd in Command of the Titanian Detachment that was sent to defend Locus. During the battle I was commended by both Telihard Liu and my peers in the Navy. If you remember the reports from the war, i led a Cruiser and two Destroyers against a pair of Battleships and came out on top.
Now here's the thing that they don't tell you. 3 ships surrendered. The cruiser Saturn's grace came alongside to accept the surrender of the Battleship Triumph of New Shanghai and the Triumph opened fire at point blank range. I gave the command to open fire on all three surviving ships. There was no time to communicate with my superiors in the Titanian Navy or with Telihard Liu, time lag forced ships to be much more independent than before. The ships were destroyed and losses were minimized. According to the Planetary Consortium I was guilty of war crimes, I was tried in absentia by a military tribunal, I assume you can guess how that turned out. Public pressure forced the Navy to remove me from my position. I received an honorable discharge from the military and founded my own microcorp.

Spoiler
An airbrushed portrait of Eli by Karl Benedict, another member of Henry Edward's gatecrashing team. Shows Eli in his Somatech Tengu, just prior to the gatecrashing expedition to [Exoplanet Designation Redacted] The purpose of the goggles he's wearing in the image remain unknown. Perhaps artistic license?
This image shows Eli fully encased in his Crasher Suit. And probably having a pretty bad day by the looks of things. (Editor: Dammit, this image isn't supposed to be here! If you absolutely have to include it in the file, make sure it's moved to Document-BF:2142 before you make this live.)
Early Life:
Spoiler
(Note: God dammit, you guys know I'm really horrible at writing these things. How the hell are you supposed to write about someone's life and manage to stay so clinical and detached?)
(Editor: Try Harder.)
(Note: Fine, here's a first draft then.)
When the Argonauts split from the Hypercorps in the decades before the Fall, they took more than a bit of their research, and quite a few "assets," with them. Dr. Mikhail Filitov took all of his research on Avian Uplift, as well as his most important test subjects: a pair of modified Corvus Corax, Ravens. He moved to the Mitre Station in orbit around Luna, and continued his research there.
Eli was born BF 4. He was the only member of his clutch to be considered suitable for continued uplift attempts.
In BF 1, Dr. Filitov's uplift of Eli was successful. By that point, avians had already been uplifted by others, so Eli's uplift was hardly a major scientific milestone. But for Dr. Filitov, it showed that his specific techniques were successful. It also left him with, essentially, a child that needed raising. So he did.
Mikhail raised Eli as if he was his son. Whether it was a trait rubbed off from Mikhail, or and artifact of his avian heritage, Eli proved to be incredibly curious. Over the years, he proved to be quite a studious individual, learning as much as he could about practical science, physics and the like. But his passion was Archeology, History and Xeno-Archeology. After the fall and the interdiction of Earth, returning there and sifting through the ruins was an impossibility. But with the discovery of the Pandora gates, all new avenues of research were available for those who wanted to look into the past.
(Editor: So much for "Clinical and detached")
(Note: YOU do it then!)
Gatecrashing Incident:
Spoiler
In early AF-9, Eli was hired as a Xenoarcheologist by a gatecrashing expedition for a trip through the Pandora Gate. This was in spite of the fact that Eli had not yet actually finished his Doctorate in the subject.
In preparation for the expedition, Eli received a considerable amount of training in paramilitary skills and survival training. After a few weeks of preparation the group, led by one Henry Edwards, went through the Pandora Gate to [Exoplanet Designation Redacted].
For the most part, the expedition went smoothly. However, while exploring some sort of alien ruins, Eli came into contact with some sort of artifact. This artifact did something to Eli's brain and Ego, causing massive psychological trauma.
(Further Information Redacted. Those with Proxy level access may see Document-BF:2953 for more information regarding the gatecrashing expedition and the artifact.)
The expedition was cut short, and Eli was immediately given medical attention upon returning through the gate. Despite his obvious psychological trauma, Eli refused to be brought back from a backup, or even any kind of psychosurgery. He insisted that "the trauma was worth being able to remember being on a different planet."
Post-Gatecrashing:
Spoiler
After the expedition, Eli returned to Mitre to try to put himself back together. He refused all offers of psychosurgery and psychotherapy, until Dr. Filitov forced him to begin having sessions with Dr. George Garan. Dr. Garan is respected psychotherapist, and a friend of Dr. Filitov. Since then, Eli and Dr. Garan have been having weekly therapy sessions.
It was because of Dr. Garan's encouragement to find some sort of creative outlet for his anxieties that Eli began writing. On Dr. Garan's encouragement, Eli began publishing his stories on the Mesh and has recieved a fair amount of attention for them. These stories tend to be horror stories, generally dealing with psychological issues and that of alien terrors. (Editor: Don't tell me, you're a fan?) (Note: Read Empty Night and then tell me you're not.)
Beyond that, Eli spent most of the time since his incident continuing his studies in Xeno-Archeolgy and Xeno-Linguistics, and was recently able to complete his Doctorate in the former.
Affiliation with Firewall:
Spoiler
Eli's affiliation with Firewall came about quite by accident. Sentinel Balan Murphy and his team were investigating a potential ex-threat on Mitre, and required someone with knowledge of xenos artifacts. He was able to track down Eli, who proved willing to help.
(Further Information Redacted. Those with Proxy level access may see Document-BF:2142 for more information.)
After this first incident, Eli was inducted into Firewall. Since then, he has been acting (suitably enough) as a Crow, investigating possible ex-threats related to alien artifacts and technology.
(Further Information Redacted. Those with Proxy level access may see Document-BF:2953 for more information.)
Personality:
Spoiler
Generally, Eli is described as "outgoing, energetic and inquisitive," (Editor: I've also seen "annoying," but that's neither here nor there.) (Note: Hey! Cut that out!) most of the time. However, his psychological trauma does see him ocassionally act withdrawn, skittish, and depressed.
Psychological Profile:
Spoiler
(Taken from the notes of Dr. George Garan.)
"...those who have met Eli have ocassionally questioned whether or not he has Bio-Polar disorder. He actually does not. What he does have is PTSD, and Insomnia brought about by a combination of the aformentioned PTSD and what appears to be Exploding Head Syndrome (probably caused by some sort of Ego damage from whatever happened to him on that gatecrashing expedition.) The combination of all of these factors will cause the normally outgoing and energetic avian to be depressed, withdrawn, and mildly unresponsive. This is especially true when Eli is highly scared or upset, in which case he has on occasion been shown to lose the ability to communicate entirely. (Again, probably due to Ego damage.)
Despite the above paragraph, Eli is actually surprisingly stable. The therapy seems to be working, albiet slowly. Eventually, I expect Eli to largely overcome most of his psychological problems, though the Ego damage will likely never go away completely. Especially with the apparent phobia Eli has developed toward Psychosurgery..."
Muse
Spoiler
Eli's Muse, Lia, is very much the Yin to his Yang. Where Eli is excitable and passionate, he describes Lia as careful and methodical. This does wonders to keep Eli's impetuous nature in check.
When she manifests, she appears as a middle aged human woman, dressed as would befitting of a personal assistant or secretary. Despite this, Eli has always considered Lia to be more of a friend and colleague than a mere Muse.
Known Associates:
Spoiler
Dr. Mikhail Filitov: Dr. Filitov is many things, a brilliant scientist in the field of uplift, a respected Argonaut, and also Eli's father. (Well, he raised him at least. Same thing.) Dr. Filitov spends most of his time on Mitre, working on whatever projects he happens to have going at the time, but he always finds the time to keep in touch with Eli.
Henry Edwards: The leader of the gatecrashing team that Eli accompanied. They've maintained friendly contact over the last year or so.
Dr. George Garan: Highly respected Argonaut psychologist, and Eli's current therapist. Currently, Dr. Garan and Eli have a session at least once a week.
Balan Murphy: Firewall sentinel that indirectly bought Eli into the organization.

Spoiler
We have found little information regarding what, exactly, happened to Eli on [Exoplanet Designation Redacted], or what the artifact he came into contact with was. The only real thing we were able to find was a report by Henry Edwards, describing the incident.
"...Eli had wandered off again, despite my constant reminders to stay close. We had our tac-net up, so I could see where he was going and followed him. He kept saying that he had seen something he wanted to get a closer look at. I saw him pick it up, it was some kind of spherical stone, never seen anything like it before. Definately wasn't natural though, no natural stone is that perfect.
Anyway, as soon as he picked it up, he just...stopped. Stopped moving, stop talking, everything. It was about that time I caught up with him. He was just standing there, staring at the stone, not moving or anything. I tried to get his attention, but he didn't move, respond, or anything. It wasn't until I moved a little closer that I saw there were tears on his face. Heh, I know it sounds stupid, by my first thought was, "Huh, I didn't know the avians could actually cry." My second was to use the butt of my rifle and knock the thing out of his hands.
That might have been a mistake though. As soon as I did, Eli collapsed and started having some kind of seizure. I was screaming for the rest to get there by that point, only took them a minute or so to do so. Jan and I held him down while Karl tried to figure out what kind of dosage of Lorazepam you give to a bird that, as far we know, had no history of epilispy. I don't know what Carol was thinking, but I'm glad she did. She just took her Plasma Gun and slagged the sphere were it had fallen on the ground. As soon as she did, the seizure stopped, though Eli remained unconcious...
...about an hour into our waiting for the Gate to reopen, Eli regained conciousness for the first time. He started screaming, well, squaking is more accurate probably. It took a good couple of minutes to get him calmed down to the point where he could start using words again. Didn't talk much before slipping back under, but did say something about the sphere showing him, "Such horrible things." Made my skin crawl..."
This is about all we really know about the incident. Eli remembers little, and will flately refuse to discuss what he does remember. It can be hypothesised based on Mr. Edwards report that the sphere was some sort of TITAN trap, which Eli inadvertently set off. Our best guess is that it hacked directly into his brain, causing massive damage to his psyche. The idea that it "showed him horrible things" is somewhat strange. Did the sphere insert some sort of disturbing images into his mind? If so, for what purpose?

Upon his recruitment to Firewall, Belisarius did make it known that he had been displaying strange abilities ever since his incident on [Exoplanet Designation Redacted]. Further investigation revealed that he had been infected with the Watts-Mcleod strain of the Exsurgent virus. Most likely, by the artifact he encountered on [Exoplanet Designation Redacted].
Eli has shown himself to be a fairly strong Psi-Gamma. He has been certified "Safe" by [Proxy Designation Redacted]. However, as with all Asyncs, it is advisable to keep him somewhat out of the loop and under watch. We don't know what, exactly, Eli came into contact with on [Exoplanet Designation Redacted], for all we know he may be some kind of exsurgent sleeper agent.

The sun was setting over the Pacific, the sky awash with pastel colors, a phoenix against the cool colors of the impending night. The breeze flowed through Damien’s hair as it whispered to him “Jump”. It was a nostalgic feeling, being back on the island, looking out at the water, breathing the fresh air. There was nothing like it back home. “Damien!” he heard his sister cry out behind him in her typical jovial manner. He felt a smile cross his face, and went to face her, but couldn’t. He couldn’t turn to see her, his gaze set out on the horizon. “Damien!” She called to him again, and again he could do nothing. It was almost as if he were trapped. He began to sweat, his breath becoming out of sync with the cool breeze. “Damien!” The voice was fading away, and the picturesque evening was falling into darkness. “Damien, you sad sack of metal, get up. We have a job for you.”
When he realized it was just a dream, the same one he’d been having since the Fall, he groaned. There was nothing he wanted more than to remember his sister’s face. She was taken during the attack while he was out guarding some snooty high-profile executive, much like the one who was talking to him now. He hadn’t seen her in something like 50 years. They had a falling out for some reason, stupid now looking back at it, whatever it was. She was his only family, and in those last days, he was stuck ‘doing his duty’ or some bull like that.
“Vijaya Tamboli. He is one of the Barsoomians in Ashoka that some people want dealt with.” “Sounds like an Oversight problem to me.” He replied with his eyes closed, his vocal emitter filled with angst. The Old Earth book was still sitting open across his face, a habit he still had even though his body didn’t require rest. It was a visitor’s guide to Vancouver, Canada. He could probably sell it for a brand new fury morph if he wanted. He’d had offers. “Sounds like your problem to me.” Contractors. Always so serious. “Fine, whatever. Send Azrael the information and I will get to it in an hour or so.” “Your lack discipline is concerning, Damien. I could hire other freelancers, you know.” Sighing, Damien pulled the book off his face. With an unnecessary groan he pushed himself into a sitting position on his couch. This was the game they played, or tried to at least. They never won. “Who would you hire as sexy as I am?” She rolled her eyes and balked briskly out of his cramped apartment. [[Azrael, C’mon buddy.]] [[Darkness hide you.]] [[Seriously, shoot her in the face or something before she gets to the door. Work your dark magic.]]
The Mark
Spoiler
There were people staring at him. It was extremely unusual for people to be walking about dressed in military grade armor though, so he kind of warranted the attention; even so he felt great. The new upgrade came with some advantages, one being he can mask his true colors with whatever security logo he wanted at any point in time. As of that time, he wore some generic off the shelf name, something he picked out of a pool of non-consortium shell-companies. It wasn’t cheap to purchase the extra shaper morph and the two AI’s it took to run it though, and he was going to charge extra for it. When the elevator stopped, the shaper stepped out in front of him as instructed, moving ahead of the hitman as if he were its bodyguard. That was how he managed to walk around in his armor without drawing suspicion, although he still got plenty of attention. That was fine. It would make for shocking news later.
The pair weaved their way through the lunch-hour crowd, making their way closer to their target: Vijaya Tamboli. He loved to hang out at one of the greasier locations in town, which was fine. Less collateral if things hit the fan. Damien had run the simulation several times based off of all the information he could gather. Tamboli would be sitting in the far corner of the room with clear visibility to the entrance, his back against the wall for a wide field of vision. He was a relatively cautious man, and a clever one at that. There were no straight shots through the entrance or any good clear shots through any of the windows, so Damien would have to forgo the long-range approach. He was likely to have a few trusted men, armed, to be keeping guard in various locations. One by his side, one on the bench opposite the entrance, and one near the secondary egress point. Of course, his favourite watering hole was full of supporters and allies, so either way there were going to be people getting uppity. He left them out of the simulation though, because it was simply more fun that way. A few more twists and turns and they would be there.
The set-up was that Damien had his shaper pose as a company executive, who was willing to come down beta-forked in a ruster morph to speak negotiations with Tamboli. Supposedly the Consortium had wrenched some precious customers and their credits from the main branch, Paladin Security, or something like that, and Damien was going to use that as his in with Tamboli. After a long night of research and networking, he managed to set up a meeting with him to discuss some mutual interest. Tamboli wasn’t the big fish the Consortium was after, he just had some information on the whereabouts of well…Damien didn’t really care that much, all he had to do was retrieve the guy’s stack and deliver it to his contact at Olympus. Of course, discretion wasn’t really his inclination. The Consortium would thank him for the statement he would make.
There he was, sitting on the bench just as predicted. The shaper ignored him, and Damien let his gaze linger ever so slightly. The guy on the bench narrowed his eyes, and moved his and closer to the opening in his jacket, so slightly that anybody who wasn’t trained wouldn’t know what he was doing. He was signalling that if there were any problems, he would shoot the hitman. Damien preferred not to get shot. As they entered the bar through the archway, the scent of sweet meat hit his sensors, and they tickled his phantom taste buds. He could still eat if he wanted to, but it was a pain to dispose of the food afterwards. In the far corner, just as it was predicted sat Vijaya Tamboli.
He would likely have opened communications with the shaper by then. Damien didn’t particularly care to listen to the corporate mumbo jumbo or whatever else they had to say. The two AI’s were more than enough to impersonate a snooty corporate executive looking to grovel for support. The hitman diverged from the same path as his shaper and sat down at the bar. Not long after, a plate of shish kebabs were in front of him, as well as a bottle of pilsner. Oh, even after 90 years he never switched his brew. A small area in the bottom of his helmet opened up, just enough for his mouth to imbibe the cold beer. He switched his taste-bud emulators to full capacity. Smooth. After letting out a sigh of relief, he turned to see how things were going. Tamboli snorted out some kind of grotesque horse-laugh, which in itself was amusing. Apparently the speech pattern and topics of interest were following along with the simulation just nicely. Once Damien finished the plate of meat and his beer he stood up and faced the guy on the bench outside. A curious look came across his face. Damien waved a cute two fingered salute and turned to face Tamboli.
KA-BOOM!
The creepy that crawled through the vents and under the bench did its job as predicted, the explosive attached to it doing well in starting off the party. There were people jumping up from their seats, people screaming and people jumping to the floor. When the target turned to make his escape Damien had already drawn his weapons and fired. The electric current that pulsed through the zapper round took him out cold. The body-guard next to him was about to take action as well, until the shaper grabbed his neck and shocked him unconscious too. The third body guard was also shocked into submission with relative ease. By then people were running out of the bar and fleeing like mad, and the local police had most likely been notified. Of course, there was always that little bit of extra fun Damien got to have when he left out other variables. One of the bar patrons leapt onto his back and attempted to grapple him to the ground. Without so much as a care in the world, the hitman holstered his weapons and walked over to the unconscious Vijaya Tamboli.
The struggling man was joined by another in the assault and tackled Damien from the side. He swiveled on the balls of his feet and sent the man flying into the one on his back, and they both tumbled to the ground. Damien pointed his balled fist at them and fired his hand laser, poking a neat hole straight through their skulls. There were no more heroes after that. Damien knelt down beside his target and slapped some cuff bands on his wrists and ankles. Then he slapped him awake.
“Who are you?” the man said, obvious terror in his voice, sweeter than any meat. Damien had only one customary reply. In the most coarse and unearthly voice his speakers could muster, he spoke.
I've heard of the KS. But ya know... I'm too poor so I didn't look into it. Is a new book? Or a change to things, I can't remember what I heard of it.
Yep, it's a new book. A bunch of the stuff from it is actually available on their forums, since they're having an open playtest of it. The book is mostly a bunch of stuff for characters, new traits, morphs, gear, ect. The coolest thing I've heard of is that it has alternate character creation rules.

That's fair enough, real life things should come first.

Oooh I might have to take a peek, streamlining the charagen process would be nifty. (Though I find it just slightly harder than Exalted and less mean than Mekton Z. XD)

No worries. Depending on how this goes, I may run one of my own. I had a fun idea several weeks back, but I was reserving my ST/GM capabilities until I knew exactly how the system works.
The new transhuman book looks like it has plenty of extra fun to add to the game, and for people new to the system the quick start character creation looks brilliant. The new tricks mechanics seem a bit like its taking from a different system, but I just can't put my finger on it.
I myself am going to start up an eclipse phase game, though not for some time. It becomes extremely tedious trying to play a game, let alone run one, on a cellphone; not to mention trying to remember everything off the top of your head lol. Luckily for potential players, I normally have plenty of time after work. I would love to participate in any other game that might arise between mow amd then though :)
You won't get hassled if you aren't brandishing your weaponry around in public. If you're walking around with heavier weaponry, you'll be asked for some identification, which they may or may not take time to verify. If you are a mobile gun battery or running around with weapons drawn, they'll tend to shoot first, ask questions via ego interrogation later.

I'll leave my sniper rifle and BTX2 rounds at home then.
Hey everyone. I'm in a place this weekend that I expected to have wifi, but doesn't. I'm posting from my phone now. In the interest of giving you a quality post and saving my fingers, I'll be waiting until I can use my computer. Expect my next IC post very late Sunday or early Monday.
*facepalm* Tornado, King meant to say he did not have anyone to spare today. Rather than edit your post though, I'll just let you have the kid. I wouldn't particularly recommend using him though.
As an aside, Cgrela, since Shihong has Skinflex and is walking around wearing fairly heavy clothing, her facial 'stripes' where the pod bio modules are fused together don't show and she does not immediately stand out as a 'pod'. A deep scan using specs or visual cybernetics and either an active X-ray or millimeter-radar emitter (which her specs would pick up) would show the pod skeleton rather than a human one (not to mention all of her implants and her weapon), and we'll just assume some of those mooks were able to do that.
That, by the by, is something I've never seen really discussed in EP: how polite/impolite is it to do an active scan of somebody? In a society as distrustful as the Inner System I'm guessing it's a few shades beyond the degree of 'staring at someone inappropriately'...Particularly in a grey/black market zone where appearing to be looking for folks with hidden goods or weapons might be hostile or police behavior.
Honestly, I'm not going that far into it. For now, we'll just say the thugs were x-raying people, looking for things to steal, and saw Shihong was a pod. A weapon didn't particularly impress them, since everyone is packing, and they weren't bright enough to figure out what the implants were.
LOL at the typo. No problem cgrela, I wasn't gonna use the kid anyways, other than to maybe harass for kicks.
Also, I suppose I forgot to mention, Damien is obviously NOT walking around in his shiny new combat armor, although he his still capable of packing his arm slides under a slick caimen jacket.
Question: if the thugs were Xraying people, would I have caught sight of whatever they were shooting with the xray's, having enhaced vision and all?
Lastly, if I have any typos, lemme know. I rage out when that happens, and it is all the more likely to happen while I'm on my phone. Next week I will have my laptop, yay!!!
Sorry folks, rough week compounded by really difficult and sudden (yeah, he gave 24 hrs, barely) landlord inspection which ran two hours. Apparently they are remodeling all of the apartments one at a time, so this guy had to poke his nose into every corner and discuss what needed/should be done.
It seems that some time in the next month or two we will be temporarily moved out to an undefined somewhere else (yeah, did you hear a voice of doom there?) while the apartment is remodeled over the course of a few weeks, then back (presumably).
Augh, was reading back through and realized I never posted Shihong's background.
Here you go:
Spoiler
The earliest images of her are of a relatively intense-looking young woman whose features blend Chinese, French and Arabic elements.
Shihong's grandmother married into the al-Maqqari nomad clan, a Maker nomad group predominantly composed of French-Tunisian egos. The clan travels mostly east and west between Argyre Planitia and Terra Sirenum and is involved in camoflauged non-TTO-approved terraforming in the polar region south of Noctis-Qianjiao around the foot of the Argyre Rupes escarpment as well as connected to non-TTO-approved freeware blueprints of several minor Martian life support system designs for supporting terrestrial greenhouse plants as well as genetic work on marsforming certain Terran plants.
Always taking the long view, about two decades ago when the TTO started its own program for certifying and educating Rangers and Magistrates, the clan sent Shihong north for schooling at Cambridge-Noctis-Qianjiao. She focused primarily on Inner-System law, and once appointed, she repeatedly used ISL precedents to contest local and corporate rulings. Shihong acquired her Conduit connections in Cambridge due to her Maker nomad background. Despite numerous attempts to get their hooks into her, she managed to complete her schooling and training without going into debt to any of the massive corporate interests focused on law enforcement certification.
Upon graduation her family pulled connections to have her assigned to Argyre. She has made significant enemies since her appointment both by defending nomadic interests...She's far more concerned with 'justice' than 'law,' much to the disappointment of some corporate lawyers...And by being very heavy-handed with her sentencing. In Shihong's view, it's much more merciful to execute a felon than to turn them over for longterm corporate indenture...Which has resulted in more than a few 'unnecessary' death sentences. There's more than one Magistrate in Argyre with a reputation as a 'hanging judge,' but she definitely makes the list. Still, entities as diverse as the Argyre Rangers and Pecos Security have had run-ins with her and her constant overturning of TTO and other hypercorp interest lawsuits and land-grabs in Argyre have made her a target for corporate persecution in addition to the occasional attack by criminals or their relatives seeking to 'Put the Marshall down.'
Shihong picked up a rather heavy Klar addiction while riding circuit...Intuition isn't just helpful with reading potential criminals and victims, it's also pretty nice for avoiding ambushes once you realize that some folks might want to take out 'the judge who hung their buddy and had his backups wiped'.
Unfortunately, despite her nervousness and attention to detail, one of these attacks resulted in the loss of her birth-body, and she was fortunate that her clan was able to continue paying her bills in terms of having her restored to an exceptionally well-tuned pod...But she also was told that they couldn't afford to do it again. While she has been a good investment for the al-Maqqari clan, and they're better off than they would have been without a Magistrate-level legal insider, the recent economic situation has pressed them rather hard in financial terms. This is particularly the case since she recently had her Magistrate's credentials revoked, and is thus less able to use her leverage openly in Argyre.
Now, with corporate lawyers 'reviewing' several of her recent cases, her Magistrate's badge pulled, and little left to her other than her connections, her reflexes, and the pistol at her belt, she has made her way to Olympus, with less of a 'plan' than an intention to explore and exploit the possibilities her connections and background offer her, whether they be riding bounty, private investigations, or expediting certain smuggling interests which would make the situation easier for her family.
Shihong has deliberately had skinflex installed on her new pod, and usually uses it to emulate her own face from record. With her heavy Martian outback duster and sleeve-gloved smart-clothing masking the pod's other seam-lines, it isn't immediately obvious that she's a pod, and she exploits that frequently.
So, just to let you all know, this game will end in 8 weeks. However, I want to give you all an exciting adventure and satisfying conclusion. To that end, I can either modify some of my ending plans, or run live sessions for you all over Skype. I leave it entirely up to you all. You've been great players, and I've loved the posts that have been coming in.
Also, As far as skype is concerned, I have no idea how to use it. I'm sure it is simple, and am totally willing to learn, but I will only be able to game for like, an hour a day after work, which is like, 8 or 9 Mountain time. I hear IRC is pretty good though.
