Also pretty excited about this! So, I think the Rockemsockems are obviously going to be a unit, who wants to befriend an overgrown Dwarven mining drill?
Proxy will be using Dark Orange for his text -- the closest readable font color we have to his bronze/brass external plating.
I will be honest, after not doing a backstory (b/c I knew I wouldn't have time and didn't want to do a rushed garbage one) I didn't think I'd get in. Now that I'm back from HOBY, here goes:

Regular Old "Birth to DM's Plot Hook" Background:
Spoiler
Quil was one of the last forg'd off the crystals before they went inactive. The war was already over, and people's interest in the forg'd was changing. Quil's crystal had been given to a group of scholars interested in constructs. Quil was made in their image, thinking and planning. The scholars weren't the best at making forg'd, leaving Quil less forceful and less mobile than a wartime forg'd, but as hardy nonetheless. Seeing the chance at hand, he used their knowledge and his abilities to learn from the world around him, trying to understand its workings. He studied divination magic to aid the scholars and soon became a wizard. The scholars eventually sent him off in search of further knowledge. Unfortunately, book knowledge did not mean success in a world where forg'd were assumed to be violent menaces, rather than oracles. He had been wandering for a few years, working as a scribe, or wizard's assistant, and even as a bar tender for a short stint. However, he made little progress in either of his two endeavors.
One day, after watching the investigators solve the mysteries of others (A pickpocket in his tavern nonetheless), he thought that becoming one may help him solve his own mysteries. At the mention of the investigators, he was teleported somewhere. He didn't know where and his divination said nothing of his location. He was asked many questions and had several probes hooked into his mechanical mind. It was only through his magic that he saw what was happening. His memories were being drained. he didn't know why and he didn't know how, but the all the knowledge he had gained for years was being sucked from him. By the time he realized that, his knowledge of his family was gone. Soon it was all gone, and all he knew was an intense hate for whoever brought him there and uncontrollable fear of what was to happpen. The following moments are merely a blue in his mind, but a dark robed figure he recalls, came from the darkness and started ruffling through his bag. He found a book, a very familiar book to Quil, but he couldn't remember what it was. Upon opening the book, the stranger was paralyzed, branded with a mark (that Quil later learned was the mark of the thief), and moments later - blinked out of sight screaming. Soon, the room and braces holding Quil back began to distort and warp out of existence. Within a minute, they were gone completely. He woke up to a terrified crowd in a tavern that looked familiar. A man he presumed to be the bartender was dragging him out of the tavern by his leg, yelling "That's the last straw Quil!, you're fired!".
That is how Quil learned his name again. Upon being dragged outside, Quil sat up, and quickly ducked as something large nearly hit his already torqued head. He went to pick it up and it appeared to be a book, hot to the touch, smoldering a bit near the binding and charred around the edges, but clearly legible inside. He quickly realized it was his, though it took him nearly a week to realize it was his spell book and to learn to use it again. The first few days were difficult, but mundane things came back quickly once he recalled his divinations. Once he [re]learned what the war was, Quil knew he had a place. He bought a cart and an oxen and headed straight to the city. On his long journey, people learned of his ability to predict events and see behind closed doors, and offered him a pretty penny for his services. They called him a "fortune teller", but he was just happy to help people and make a bit of money to recoup costs. Upon reaching the city, he took up a job in a local church of (insertconstructfriendlygodhere) helping veteran forg'd switch from war to peacetime jobs and learn to assimilate into society, much as he had been trying to relearn those same things for the past year.
He was delighted with this job and worked until the assimilation centers closed (about 5 years after the war). He then became a full time staff member at the church and performed much the same duties that the clerics did. One day, they sent him on a mission (insertplothookhere)...
10 minute background"
Spoiler
-Intended as Brain over Brawn
-Scholars have no idea where he is
-He remembers just about nothing except the few items mentioned
-He is terrified of whatevertheheckthatwas that zapped his brain and is fearful of its return and/or revenge
-Likes knowing stuff
-Likes new ways of learning new stuff
-World outlook can be somwhat "childish" due to having the combined life/social experience of a 5 year old with the power of a level 14 wizard
-Likes animals, especially Bessy the oxen (a.k.a. Gypsy Cart Express)
Goals:
-Learn more about his past, rather than the future that he is often asked to assess
-Learn to become an animal trainer
Secrets:
-There was once a young woman who he had told of her future spouse and how they would be together after he experienced a great tragedy. Quil found out days later that she had killed herself. It turns out that the man was her best friend's current husband, causing the girl to become sickened with what she thought she would do to her friend and causing her to kill herself. Later that year, the girl's best friend caught an illness and passed away as well. Quil realized that the tradegy was the best friend's death. To this day, he holds himself responsible for this girls suicide.
-He is not aware that his crystals ring at the same frequency as the great data banks on the plane of mechanus(plain of law), allowing him to open them with a thought. These data banks hold a record of all events ever, and could provide Quil with the knowledge of his past.
-This ability is what the (insertbraindrainvillain) was trying to steal from him.
Relations:
Suicide Girl: Her community still assumes that his advice encouraged and led to her suicide. Her community would not be a safe place for him.
Brain Drain Guy: I'll let you fill him out more, but basically he wants the knowledge of x to do x for x and needs Quil to access said knowledge. He might offer Quil a deal after Quil's spellbook trap branded him for life and sent him on a nice trip to the wind swept depths of pandemonium (plain of chaos). He might try to kill him, disassemble him, and take his crystals... or whatever else is setting appropriate.
He is well regarded in, around, and by the church of (insertconstructfriendlygodhere).
The scholars have been trying to get into contact with him for his report and annual library contributions, now six years overdue.
Memories: (ironic since he has super amnesia)
...will finish later.

Nothing like a pint (of oil) amongst friends. Or we could be like Bender from Futurama and actually get our strength from the high octane power of hard liquor.
Well Ballista, the easiest answer would be, we just do.
I've been reading the fluff on Warforged. As it turns out, they were all manufactured in the same region and by House Cannith during a war. When Warforged were legally declared living and sentient, it also became illegal to manufacture them anymore. So, unless some of us were manufactured on the black market, we have probably were built in the same plant. Also, I get the impression that there is a sort of weird link between all warforged. This is strongly implied in Eberron Campaign Setting pg. 269, Warforged Component: Final Messenger, which will send the last image a warforged sees before he's disabled to the nearest warforged, as well as a recorded message. What good would such a component do if it was a crap shoot whether or not the nearest warforged would care what your dying words were and who your destroyer was? I get the impression that all warforged at least have some latent comprehension of each other and loyalty to each other that goes beyond most fleshies... except maybe dwarves.
Of course, if we want to come up with something more special than "we were built to know each other" then I'm all for that.
Well, I'm not sure if we're playing in Eberron or not, and besides that my backstory is that I was built by a Dwarven clan. Still, there's any number of reasons a bunch of Warforged might've gotten together. Here's some quick brainstorm ideas:
1) A larger mercenary group managed to gather enough of us together from various places to form an all-Warforged company that they could send into dangerous environments. Lost your treasure at the bottom of the sea? We can handle that.
2) The Kivas Fajo approach. ( Points to anyone geeky enough to get that reference ) A collector of rare and mysterious items gathered us together for his collection and underestimated us. We broke out of his museum and stuck together for safety.
3) All of us followed rumors, for various reasons, of a place where Warforged were born, and found an old abandoned factory on a high mountain or a remote desert that had been dormant for centuries. We also found each other -- and began living there as a group and operating from there.
Really, there's a bunch of reasons we could be together, not least of which is that we probably make non-Warforged uncomfortable. How we met and how long we've been together really depend on where it is we're waking up and how long we've been asleep. DM, wanna fill us in a little bit on the starting situation for us?
From what I've read, there were still a small amount of Creation Forges after the Treaty of Thronehold (or something similar) prevented House Cannith from manufacturing more warforged. The two that were mentioned belonged to two entirely different camps, one is under the control of House Cannith, still operating in secret in some odd, out of the way location. The other one is being maintained by the Lord of Blades in the Mournlands... Yeah, you know how he is...
So warforged can still be manufactured, though it would be exceedingly rare compared to the amount they were pumping out in the Last War.
Plus none of this would even apply if Bel Gareth was running a homebrew setting...
Though that component does speak volumes about the kinship that warforged feel; the only intelligent construct race has to stick together, eh?
RAWRRR Double post!
@UpholderSSK
I'm fond of number 2, I believe that's a star trek reference? (I'm not a trekky myself, I just hang around too many people that are...) Otherwise I'm sure I can think of some alternatives too
Everyone of us managed to have the same odd cryptic dream/vision/hallucination sent by an enigmatic figure/deity, telling us to meet at <insert ye olde meeting area>, for we have a destiny far greater than we can imagine. Generic start besides the ole tavern?
We are all charged by local authorities for the murder of a high born noble and are imprisoned within the capital's dungeons, awaiting death row. We remain together as outlaws, trying to cleanse our names.
Everyone is somehow incapacitated and transported to some isolated part of the continent and we must band together to return to our homes.
BAH trying to be creative hurts when I don't have coffee, also it's really weird making backstory neutral introductions...
I suppose it would help to know more about the setting then. BelGareth, is there a plot to this campaign, or are we just adventurers adventuring for the sake of adventure?

As of right now, the plot is something that will be played out in game. which is pending sometime tonight.
Am I no longer in the game? I notice Formless isn't in the list in the first post.
On that topic: How exactly do I wedge my character in to the setting?
No you are, i Just missed your info.
That's up to you, most everything your character knows may be dead (or may not) but you backstorie stands as is. The gap between warforged becoming sentient and your merc party spans thousands of years
Crud, this is gonna be inconvenient...
I'm gonna be out of town and therefore away from the internet from the afternoon of 6/7 to the night of 6/9... sorry in advance
I also am not quite sure how to begin my intro post, since my BG was that I was made by a dwarf in isolation.
Maybe the dwarf used technology he found from the ancient warforged army as the base for Proxy, and then Proxy found all the sleeping warforged while following a rumor that he thought would lead him home to Clan Halfhammer?
My suggestion? Just pretend that there's a chapter at the end of your backstory that reads," Met up with this group of other warforged, had some adventures, volunteered to be Eternal Champions. Now what the hell is going on?"
I guess I'm the odd one out with my backstory ending of
"He then became a full time staff member at the church and performed much the same duties that the clerics did. One day, they sent him on a mission (insertplothookhere)..."
tying perfectly into
"And then you were tasked with a mission of the utmost importance".

I did it like that so your backstory can be intertwined into the story just as Oh My God mentioned.
I'm going to attempt to make my warforged less robot-y. Since he was built primarily for entertainment, I imagine he's a bit more melodramatic than the typical warforged... kind of a showman, like a good battle-bot should be. So if he's not overly proper, then that's why.
