Chappe will probably ask for tin plates, bowls, forks, chopping board, spoons, ladels etc. I couldn't find such things in the phb so I didn't want to risk it. The only thing I could find was an iron pot. However if it's all free then hell yeah!
Yep, you can get a portable kitchen. Deep plates, drinking cups, spoons, ladle and skillet in addition to your pot. Add 8 pounds to your pot's weight and call it a kitchen now (with plates etc. for eight).

Sampi: Regardless of Laksara's answer to Gurlin's question in the IC regarding toxic gas and air supply, he will probably return to the commissary as a detour and request some anti-toxins to help prevent poison.
Is that something he can get under the assumption that poisonous substances may be found throughout the caverns?

I just noticed how many gold pieces Niko had, and thought that it might be a good idea to have him pick up some alchemical items. I assume that stuff like that wouldn't be available as assigned gear, so maybe Niko could just make a stop at one of the school's alchemy classes that's just finished and purchase some of the students' work.
Fair enough, forget what I said.
He'll probably take Stinky to the commissary if he's supposedly Ill prepared at the moment as recent posts suggest, anyway.
EDIT: Sampi (below) - duly noted.

Please town down the overtly obvious Potter references. I don't mind them occasionally, but this school isn't going to be Hogwarts. For example, they don't sentence thieves to serve the community as guinea pigs in Hogwarts.

Freebiewitz: you're getting a bit ahead of the situation. You get all the mundane stuff from the Commissary, which is run in the North tower by the Explorers. Ako is the steward in charge of the main school storage, and he'll only get you your personal upgrades. I guess I should have been more clear in differentiating between the Commissary and the Steward's storage. The former is responsible for equipping the Explorers, the latter for storage and use of all the things that the School comes by in its dealings.
I'll post something about the actual Steward's storage soon, and gloss over the Commissary trip, since that was supposed to have been done during character creation.

If you are that upset, I'll just go back and edit the post and replace the name with Mark Curie to turn it into an overtly obvious reference to a famous chemist.
If you haven't noticed, Niko's name is an overtly obvious reference to a certain inventor, and the title of the library book he's holding is a reference to a videogame character (I couldn't help but continue the reference into the book's description in the "Other Notes" section of the character sheet). I haven't exactly been very original with names.

Not a problem, though I do prefer science references. I said tone down, not stop altogether.
Your name has not gone by without notice. (Though the video game reference escapes me, I guess I never played that game.)

My posting frequency will go down during the weekend, so excercise patience. If possible, try to get your upgrade choice done, so I can choose what you get (I'll be able to read you posts, but won't have much time to reply). That way we can get the exploration running on Monday. Note that the choices were:
1) weapon
2) armor
3) magic thing
This should give you a hint whether the weapons or armor are magical, and on the general value of the magic things.
Other suggested matters of in-game conversation: how you plan to proceed once in the caves, does someone scout out in front and other such tactical flimflam. Also you could introduce yourselves to one another, while you wait for Ako to get your stuff.

In that case...

It's a reference to the character, Cave Johnson, from Portal 2. One rather memorable monologue from him: "All right, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these?! Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
Somehow, I think it might be fun to have every nonfiction book that Niko borrows be some kind of reference to a mad scientist.
Of course, the various arc-fic books would act as references to various examples of science fiction.

I'll just edit my IC post and make another one then.

My posting frequency drops to hahayeahright% on weekends. It's my chance to spend time with my son and wife, since work often keeps me past his bedtime, and my wife and I are both exhausted by the time we're done for the day.
If there's some emergency, I can make an effort, and I'll keep up with posts too, but focusing long enough to make a post is unlikely.

Seems we have a similiar situation, except that I have a daughter. See you Monday then.

the forum is srewing up. I replied but could see it and ended up replying 5 or so time plus a test reply. But I can't see them unless I reply and when I submit them I can't see the reply.
I'll erase the extra replies once I can actually see them.

How old is your daughter? My son is 14 months, and it's an incredibly fun age. I hate to miss any of it.
Edit: The irc channel #undertheschool is open on irc.rizon.net, ops available for whoever wants it. Right now I'm shooting the breeze by myself, and would love some company. Sampi, it's probably good that you're not available for irc, because that would give an advantage in DM reachibility to the people that can use it.

Funny, I also think that 14 months is a great age. (Guess how old my daughter is.) While daddytalk is fun, maybe we should keep this thread at least somewhat on topic. ;)

I am having my character do something that will probably require a dex check. I think I missed your policy on how we should handle rolls, Sampi, but if it's alright, I'll just use the forum's dice roller here and you can decide if you want me to stick with the roll I make here or handle the roll some other way.
Marker Mage: Nice reaction, the shoe thing was a bit amusing.
sorry Niko had to be the first among you all to get an undeserving taste of Gurlin's meanness first hand, I was imagining for a couple of nights why he never writes anymore and assumed a burst of anger would express that well in-character, and I haven't expected the oppurtunity to come this early on.
That said, I have pointed out on more than one or two occasions that Gurlin got his brutal reputation for his scowling, griping, and violence, again, too bad it erupted on the innocent; it doesn't normally happen since Gurlin tends to control his negative emotions better than this.

I'm afraid that I may have put a bit more of my good alignment in that post than Niko's listed neutral alignment. Then again, I guess I could try to imply that it was partly Niko trying to one-up Gurlin. Maybe Niko might end up practicing it until he can write "Your writing must be at least this legible before I'll accept your attitude" with his foot.
Yes, the forum roller will do. I'll make all the secret rolls myself, using Platonic solids. That is, enemy rolls and the rolls whose results the players should not see (sense motive etc.).

"Your writing must be at least this legible before I'll accept your attitude"
how so, With his feet as well?
Good luck doing that, it won't necessarily prove anything to the transmogrified freak, though. He'll just rip it to shreds tell him to try doing that with watercolors next time, or something.
Gurlin's fingers are not simply misshapen, but rather large with, like, 3 or so fingers that seem a bit off in terms of location.
Put simply, he can still grip a pole, or a hilt, or a fistful of something, but he simply cannot perform the more delicate handling like holding a pen, or holding anything without suspension efficiently with just 2 or 3 fingers.
Also, I'll even take the reasonable penalties for the approptiate dexterity checks for this cruel anatomical joke the magical gods played on him. If you deem it necessary, Sampi.

So then, would that 8 be enough to have Nico write a large "NO" legibly?
This is a prime example of a thing best left to player diegetic control. It provides texture but has no real effect on the narrative. Had you asked me beforehand, I would not have required a roll. As it stands, it's an okay NO, if a bit wobbly.

OK, gotcha. I'm still a bit new to the concept, and assumed that things that could accurately be handled by a simple ability check might fall outside of player diegetic control.
Other suggested matters of in-game conversation: how you plan to proceed once in the caves, does someone scout out in front and other such tactical flimflam.
I looked into the irc suggested earlier, and while the site seemed fine, it also makes itself difficult to navigate from my mobile's standpoint.
I would've tried it on the home desktop if it wasn't out for repairs for the next few days. So, whether or not this was discussed(and this is in reference to the quote above) can we talk about this next?(here?)
