Oh most definitely. Was going to try and get an update today IC-wise about opening the Tomes and what happens there.
Also, just to let you guys know, this week is going to be insane for me (50-55 hr work week) so if there aren't quite as many updated flying around, you know why. The nice thing about my job, is that I can usually update with great frequency on here about 90% of the time. But then we get weeks like the one upcoming and everything goes bat-**** crazy. SO, that being said, bear with me this week. Actually isn't horrible timing with Dane leaving and trying to get a new player and all. But just wanted to let you guys know so you weren't wondering what the heck was going on!
Preservation rituals seem few and far between, but would gentle repose work? It's usually used on corpses but it is at heart a method of slowing entropy increase.

Yes Sir, I do
Then sever your arm, and you can have the dollar
No Sir, I cannot live without my arm
Then remove a finger, and you can have the dollar
No Sir, my finger is dearer than the dollar
Then cry me a cup of tears, and you can have the dollar
No Sir, I cannot cry. Not for a dollar
Then shoot the man yonder, and you can have the dollar

I am not going to say that you can't use Gentle Repose, but I won't say that the book will be fine and dandy if you do decide to use it. Like you said, it is only used for people, so you don't know the effects it might have on a book, if anything at all.
Make Whole might work, or just gentle handling. if anyone has a bag of holding the extra-planar space might work as well.
Make Whole:
A single object that can fit in a 10-foot cube is completely repaired. The component cost is 20 percent of the item’s cost. In cases where you attempt to repair an item not on any price list, the DM determines the cost.

Very good suggestion. If you do decide to go this route, I will have to determine the cost of these books. Which is really going to be hard, considering they are basically priceless "lost-to-time" tomes. But we can cross that bridge if/when we get to it.

To be honest, Bag of Holdings are pretty crappy now. They don't hold near as much as they used to. Handy Haversack is really what you want to get for extra-dim holding.
Assuming it is strictly a large book and has no other properties to it, maybe. But that isn't the only factor that would go into figuring out what it would take to fix an ancient tome.
A haversack is pretty expensive for low paragons though. It's 5 times the cost and capacity as compared to a bag of holding. I say we just put the books in the bag of holding and carry on. We leave these things to Metherna.

So, I don't want to move on with the story yet, because I plan on introducing your new party member when you get back to Waterdeep. So, once we get that person picked, I'll make a nice big post about what happens when you guys get back into the city.
Any opinions one way or another on who has posted characters yet?
I've played with Anonomuss before, he's good, but both his and Avian's submissions look solid so I'd be fine either way. We'll see if anyone else posts a finished one before Sunday.
Yeah, Anonomouss PMed me with some idea, bouncing stuff off of me. Seems like a great RPer.
However, Giegue also PMed me with a very interesting backstory that would create lots of SUPER RP moments as the campaign goes on, very much a long term conflict type of backstory. So I guess we will see what happens
Also, playing with Avian right now in a game, and so far so good
I think that of all the classes submitted so far, the Ardent is my favorite.
Can we see Geigue's build?
As for another Artificer, meh. Dane's was effective but a leader that can at least get into melee would be nice, considering that our team is mostly melee or close focused.
As far as I know, he hasn't built anything up yet for an actual sheet, but as he said in the recruitment thread, he seems to be leaning towards dragonborn Ardent.
I would really love to see a build before the decision. Maybe they can get Ire Strike in as one of the at-wills? It is the Basic Attack granting power of the Ardent.
Fear-based Ardents are pretty nasty if that's what he's going for, especially at paragon with Stygian Adept, so I'll look forward to what Geigue comes up with.

Of course, he is working on it at present, as far as I am aware. If he doesn't put it on at first, I'm sure there can be a retraining at some point

That is, indeed, what he is going for, as I understand it. Fear-based Ardent. We will see what happens.
Haven't had time to read over the thread so I don't have much of an opinion, but I'm not that keen on Artificer. Just seems like an odd class.

I don't know any of the players personally so I'll just comment on what I can see from the sheets.
I'm leery of another artificer since they have a rather limited if still excellent power pool. There will be a significant overlap with Dak, which I want to avoid; each character should be distinctive both in and out of combat. Anonomoss' writing seems interesting though, so that's a fairly big plus. Perhaps if he puts in a warlord submission?
Esmerelda seems fine mechanics wise, though we'll need to pick up agile opportunist for full effectiveness. I'm can't help but think that the background seems more suited for a lvl 1 character on the cusp of becoming an adventurer than a paragon character, which for all intents and purposes should count among the movers and shakers of the setting, if only on a small scale (admittedly, Kadaith could use some work on that part too). I'm a little wary.
I think those are the only two complete submissions thus far. As for the other two, I'll wait for builds and backgrounds before commenting.

Is the choice just between Anonomuss's warlord and Avian Malkavian's bard then? Giegue never got back to you?
Seems to be. And no, he asked me a few follow-up questions, but never did get a sheet made-up and everything. A pity too, because his backstory was ripe with future RP opportunities.
