Default Walking Dead Comic

I'm finally reading The Walking Dead comic. I hadn't read it before seeing the tv show.

OMG!

They couldn't have half of what's in the comic on the tv show, even if it cable. Not if they want to keep the popularity of the show. I don't hate the comic. I am enjoying it, but everyone is absolutely insane, even Rick and Laurie is still alive at the point where I am now.

I've reached the Governor. Up to Hershel's Farm everything was sane, so to speak. It's not really different than what you see in a typical zombie apocalypse movie. However, once they reach the prison all hell breaks loose, even before they find Woodbury. Carol is a pervert**. Michonne is a schizophrenic psychopath, at least psychopath to the Governor who deserves it. Maggie is slutty. I think Andrea and Dale are the only really sane ones, so far, despite their age difference in their coupling. Perhaps Glenn as well. Laurie is a whiner. Rick is tv show Governor while comic Governor is The Joker.

I knew the tv show took poetic license and has its differences with the comic, but I had no idea just how different. Anyone like me who watches the show but hadn't read the comic will be shocked if they do read it. It is bat-guano crazy. (observation, not criticism)

**Not because of the lesbian aspect specifically, just general characterization

Just wait until you see the end of the prison arc in the comics. I mainly watched the third season because I wanted to see how they would deviate from that (because, as you rightly noted, even on cable they couldn't pull that off). They really went all over the place in trying to avoid the comic's version, achieving some good results, and some truly disappointing results.

I think the saddest thing about season three was how they ended it. Don't want to give any spoilers, just disappointed by how some people died.

I haven't read all the comics, but I'm eager to see how the show does with the community that comes after the prison. I wonder if they will relocate to the DC area to shoot it.

For the most part you are right. Many of the characters have become unhinged in one way or another. But can you blame them? Some characters go totally nuts. However most are just trying to survive, and cope.

The characters are still growing and adapting to the new reality of the world. Part of that reality is that there is no law. What Rick and Michonne do is off the reservation for us. However keep in mind that human civilization, if you can call it that, is at a point were the worst of the American wild west period is an example of sane law and order.

You are also right about Glenn, Dale, and Andrea. They are the most emotionally stable people in the group. Maggie is not really a slut, more like lost. As most of the characters are. Carol, yeah. She probably already had problems before the dead started walking. Then completely broke down with every tragedy that hit her.

Rick. Well I really don't want to say much with out spoiling any thing. I'll just say that Rick is a leader, who cares about his people. He grows as a character and has a long tempering process.
